Because of the advantages of Lean Management in production (Lean Production), process managers often try to transfer lean principles directly to development processes, not considering that major differences exist between well-described production processes and new product development processes which include much more uncertainty and risk. Nevertheless, several lean principals are applicable in product development. This paper describes five lean development insights (LDIs) which were found when optimizing an entire product realization process. Lean principles have been examined and then translated to collaboration between product development and tool manufacturing at a globally operating German family-run company. These LDIs are meant to help project and process managers, consultants and developers to rethink their ways of organizing product development. The application of these insights will result in increased transparency, intensified collaboration, improved processes and quality, shortened lead times, and also eliminate waste."}],"conference":{"name":"Proceedings 6th International Conference","location":"Lemgo","start_date":"2016-09-29","end_date":"2016-09-30"},"department":[{"_id":"DEP7000"},{"_id":"DEP1306"}]},{"oa":"1","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["Maintenance engineering","Augmented reality","Context","Context modelin","Production facilities","Cameras"],"place":"New York","doi":"10.1109/ETFA.2015.7301586","_id":"4329","date_created":"2021-01-08T12:03:42Z","type":"conference","publication":" 2015 IEEE 20th Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA)","date_updated":"2023-03-15T13:49:52Z","user_id":"15514","department":[{"_id":"DEP5023"}],"conference":{"end_date":"2015-09-11","start_date":"2015-09-08","location":"Luxembourg, Luxembourg","name":"20th Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA)"},"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1"}],"year":2015,"author":[{"id":"58494","first_name":"Holger","full_name":"Flatt, Holger","last_name":"Flatt"},{"full_name":"Koch, Nils","first_name":"Nils","last_name":"Koch"},{"full_name":"Guenter, Andrei","first_name":"Andrei","last_name":"Guenter"},{"last_name":"Röcker","first_name":"Carsten","full_name":"Röcker, Carsten","id":"61525"},{"id":"1899","last_name":"Jasperneite","first_name":"Jürgen","full_name":"Jasperneite, Jürgen"}],"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"The term Industrie 4.0 carries the vision of smart factories, which automatically adapt to changes and assist the human as much as possible during operation and maintenance. This includes smart human machine interfaces, which reduce the chances of errors and help to make the right decisions. This paper presents an approach to equip the maintenance software running on a tablet PC with augmented reality functionality to be able to place virtual sticky notes at production modules. Additionally, these sticky notes are enriched with position information. The central element of this approach is an ontology-based context-aware framework, which aggregates and processes data from different sources. As a result, a tablet PC application was implemented, which allows displaying maintenance information as well as live plant process data in the form of augmented reality. More than 100 of those sticky notes can be placed using this system, whereas each note requires a file size of 12 to 16 kilo bytes. After placing a sticky note, the system recognizes it even if the camera's position is not exactly the same as during the placing process."}],"status":"public","publisher":"IEEE","title":"A Context-Aware Assistance System for Maintenance Applications in Smart Factories based on Augmented Reality and Indoor Localization","publication_status":"published","citation":{"ieee":"H.
