In this paper we provide insights into attempts to intervene in such a regional innovation system via practice-oriented activities. Our findings describe experiences of co-creating knowledge around digitization of SMEs on a regional level, beyond individual company contexts. We reflect on the benefits and challenges such an approach affords and highlight the importance of interpersonal relationships and similarities between practices in different contexts to enable intended but also initially unexpected knowledge spillovers. Our findings highlight how a praxeological approach to CSCW can be influential in regional development programs, and open this field to CSCW research and design. We draw out lessons for similar interventions and outline fruitful avenues for future research."}],"place":"New York, NY","author":[{"first_name":"Muhamed","full_name":"Kudic, Muhamed","id":"87331","last_name":"Kudic"},{"first_name":"Max","last_name":"Krüger","full_name":"Krüger, Max"},{"first_name":"Marc","full_name":"Gerbracht, Marc","last_name":"Gerbracht"},{"last_name":"Ahmadi","full_name":"Ahmadi, Michael","first_name":"Michael"},{"full_name":"Boden, Alexander","last_name":"Boden","first_name":"Alexander"},{"full_name":"Stein, Martin","last_name":"Stein","first_name":"Martin"},{"last_name":"Kotthaus","full_name":"Kotthaus, Christoph","first_name":"Christoph"},{"last_name":"Vitt","full_name":"Vitt, Nico","first_name":"Nico"},{"full_name":"Unbehaun, David","last_name":"Unbehaun","first_name":"David"},{"first_name":"Peter","full_name":"Tolmie, Peter","last_name":"Tolmie"},{"full_name":"Wulf, Volker","last_name":"Wulf","first_name":"Volker"}],"extern":"1","status":"public","corporate_editor":["Association for Computing Machinery"],"date_created":"2025-03-12T07:45:36Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2025-03-14T07:54:46Z","year":"2024","user_id":"83781","citation":{"ufg":"<b>Kudic, Muhamed u. a.</b>: Knowledge Spillover: Between Serendipity and Strategic Planning - Lessons for Practice-oriented Interventions into Regional Innovation Systems, Bd. 8, hg. von Nichols, Jeff, Association for Computing Machinery, New York, NY 2024.","havard":"M. The provision of smart services combined with product portfolios is advantageous because individual contexts of customers who use the products are addressed. While various and frequently changing data are collected and analyzed, specific knowledge is necessary to turn data into valuable information. A knowledge management system (KMS) adapted to requirements of provided smart services is necessary to aggregate, maintain, and provide knowledge. With a comprehensive literature review over 157 papers, we extracted requirements for KMS for smart services (Smart Service KMS). We present ten design principles derived from the requirements focusing on how tailored Smart Service KMS can be designed. We contribute to the theory by providing an overview about crucial requirements of Smart Service KMS. Due to variabilities, which often occur between and within batches, updating (re-estimation) of model parameters is required at certain time intervals (dynamic parameter estimation) to obtain reliable predictions. This can be challenging in the presence of low sampling frequencies (e.g. every 24 h), different consecutive scales and large measurement errors, as in the case of cell culture seed trains. This contribution presents an iterative learning workflow which generates and incorporates knowledge concerning cell growth during the process by using a moving horizon estimation (MHE) approach for updating of model parameters. This estimation technique is compared to a classical weighted least squares estimation (WLSE) approach in the context of model updating over three consecutive cultivation scales (40–2160 L) of an industrial cell culture seed train. Both techniques were investigated regarding robustness concerning the aforementioned challenges and the required amount of experimental data (estimation horizon). It is shown how the proposed MHE can deal with the aforementioned difficulties by the integration of prior knowledge, even if only data at two sampling points are available, outperforming the classical WLSE approach. This workflow allows to adequately integrate current process behavior into the model and can therefore be a suitable component of a digital twin.","lang":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2023-08-21T07:51:38Z","year":"2021","user_id":"83781","date_created":"2022-05-05T13:06:12Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}]},{"author":[{"full_name":"Fritze, Alexander","last_name":"Fritze","first_name":"Alexander"},{"id":"1825","full_name":"Mönks, Uwe","last_name":"Mönks","first_name":"Uwe"},{"first_name":"Christoph-Alexander","last_name":"Holst","full_name":"Holst, Christoph-Alexander","id":"64782"},{"orcid":"0000-0002-3325-7887","first_name":"Volker","last_name":"Lohweg","full_name":"Lohweg, Volker","id":"1804"}],"status":"public","_id":"2014","type":"journal_article","volume":17,"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Industrial applications are in transition towards modular and flexible architectures that are capable of self-configuration and -optimisation. This is due to the demand of mass customisation and the increasing complexity of industrial systems. The conversion to modular systems is related to challenges in all disciplines. Consequently, diverse tasks such as information processing, extensive networking, or system monitoring using sensor and information fusion systems need to be reconsidered. The focus of this contribution is on distributed sensor and information fusion systems for system monitoring, which must reflect the increasing flexibility of fusion systems. This contribution thus proposes an approach, which relies on a network of self-descriptive intelligent sensor nodes, for the automatic design and update of sensor and information fusion systems. This article encompasses the fusion system configuration and adaptation as well as communication aspects. Manual interaction with the flexibly changing system is reduced to a minimum."}],"date_updated":"2023-03-15T13:49:38Z","year":2017,"article_number":"601","user_id":"15514","date_created":"2019-11-25T08:52:14Z","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.mdpi.com/1424-8220/17/3/601/htm","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"intvolume":" 17","citation":{"havard":"A. This is done by identifying and analyzing external effects, specifically spillover effects. The database used is Perinorm. We use a cluster analysis in order to create groups of technology fields for German standards according to the fields of the International Classification of Standards. Methodologically, the distances between these objects or clusters are defined by the chosen distance measure, which in turn is determined by the sum of their cross references. The applied joining clustering method uses these distances between the objects and allows the data to be mapped within a two dimensional space. The results of this mapping show the existence of structures within the standards data fitting to the well-known structure of patent spillovers.","lang":"eng"}],"year":2008,"date_updated":"2023-03-15T13:50:04Z","user_id":"74004","date_created":"2019-03-04T13:54:13Z","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007%2Fs11192-008-0105-4.pdf","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"intvolume":" 74","publisher":"Springer","citation":{"van":"Gamber TG, Friedrich-Nishio Mn, Grupp H. The conditions and requirements were grouped into 11 categories showing clear similarities and differences between the five countries. Further evaluation of the data gives evidence that the private sector plays a significant role for technical environmental professionals in Europe. As a central task, conclusions regarding degree and knowledge requirements, respectively, and the importance of a variety of skills are drawn. Suggestions are made how the findings can be accounted for in environmental curricula. Furthermore the role of networks for the graduates' entry into the labour market is emphazised.}"}]}]
