text: 'Introduction: In recent decades, there has been a rise in mental illnesses.
Community infrastructures are increasingly acknowledged as important for sustaining
good mental health. Moreover, green spaces are anticipated to offer advantages
for both mental health and social cohesion. However, the mediating pathway between
green space, social cohesion and mental health and especially the proximity and
characteristics of green spaces that trigger these potential effects remain of
interest. Methods: We gathered data from 1365 individuals on self-reported social
cohesion and mental health across four satellite districts in European cities:
Nantes (France), Porto (Portugal), Sofia (Bulgaria), and Hoje-Taastrup (Denmark).
Green space data from OpenStreetMap was manually adjusted using the PRIGSHARE
guidelines. We used the AID-PRIGSHARE tool to generate 7 indicators about green
space characteristics measured in distances from 100-1500 m, every 100 m. This
resulted in 105 different green space variables that we tested in a single mediation
model with structural equation modelling. Results: Accessible greenness (900-1400
m), accessible green spaces (900-1500 m), accessible green space corridors (300-800
m), accessible total green space (300-800), and mix of green space uses (700-1100
    m) were significantly associated with social cohesion and indirectly with mental
health. Green corridors also showed negative indirect and direct associations
with mental health in larger distances. Surrounding greenness and the quantity
of green space uses were not associated with social cohesion nor indirectly with
mental health. We also observed no positive direct associations between any green
space variable in any distance to mental health. Conclusions: Our results suggest
that accessibility, connectivity, mix of use and proximity are key characteristics
that drive the relationship between green spaces, social cohesion and mental health.
This gives further guidance to urban planners and decision-makers on how to design
urban green spaces to foster social cohesion and improve mental health.'

text: Exploring the influence of green space characteristics and proximity on health
via air pollution mitigation, our study analysed data from 1,365 participants
across Porto, Nantes, Sofia, and H & oslash;je-Taastrup. Utilizing OpenStreetMap
and the AID-PRIGSHARE tool, we generated nine green space indicators around residential
addresses at 15 distances, ranging from 100m to 1500m. We performed a mediation
analysis for these 135 green space variables and revealed significant associations
between self-rated air pollution and self-rated health for specific green space
characteristics. In our study, indirect positive effects on health via air pollution
were mainly associated with green corridors in intermediate Euclidean distances
(800-1,000m) and the amount of accessible green spaces in larger network distances
(1,400-1,500m). Our results suggest that the amount of connected green spaces
measured in intermediate surroundings seems to be a prime green space characteristic
that could drive the air pollution mitigation pathway to health.

text: 'Lake evaporation plays an important role in the water budget of lakes. Predicting
lake evaporation responses to climate change is thus of paramount importance for
the planning of mitigation and adaption strategies. However, most studies that
have simulated climate change impacts on lake evaporation have typically utilised
a single mechanistic model. Whilst such studies have merit, projected changes
in lake evaporation from any single lake model can be considered uncertain. To
better understand evaporation responses to climate change, a multi-model approach
(i.e., where a range of projections are considered), is desirable. In this study,
we present such multi-model analysis, where five lake models forced by four different
climate model projections are used to simulate historic and future change (1901–2099)
in lake evaporation. Our investigation, which focuses on sub-tropical Lake Kinneret
(Israel), suggested considerable differences in simulated evaporation rates among
the models, with the annual average evaporation rates varying between 1232 mm
year−1 and 2608 mm year−1 during the historic period (1901–2005). We explored
these differences by comparing the models with reference evaporation rates estimated
using in-situ data (2000–2005) and a bulk aerodynamic algorithm. We found that
the model ensemble generally captured the intra-annual variability in reference
evaporation rates, and compared well at seasonal timescales (RMSEc = 0.19, R =
0.92). Using the model ensemble, we then projected future change in evaporation
rates under three different Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios:
RCP 2.6, 6.0 and 8.5. Our projections indicated that, by the end of the 21st century
(2070–2099), annual average evaporation rates would increase in Lake Kinneret
by 9–22 % under RCPs 2.6–8.5. When compared with projected regional declines in
precipitation, our projections suggested that the water balance of Lake Kinneret
could experience a deficit of 14–40 % this century. We anticipate this substantial
projected deficit combined with a considerable growth in population expected for
this region could have considerable negative impacts on water availability and
would consequently increase regional water stress.'

text: "AI is on the rise. Powerful cloud platforms and networked software components
can perform increasingly complex data evaluations and simulations. Recent research
and development projects1 show how great the potential of artificial intelligence
is for urban planning. However, despite the impressive, technical possibilities,
it currently remains unclear how planning stakeholders and the affected population
can be meaningfully involved in the intelligent processes of the \"black box\".
The authors are of the opinion that sustainable urban development planning not
only requires acceptance of the spatial planning result, as has been the case
up to now, but also requires acceptance of the increasingly digitally supported
planning process. For this reason, it must also be possible for laypersons to
understand the digital analysis and evaluation processes and to comprehend their
relevance and spatial interactions. Consequently, simulations must not only run
in the computers of the respective planning or engineering offices, but require
a simple, haptic analog translation that can also be used in participation processes
as already shown in the CityScope projects2. \r\nFor this project, the big revitalization
project of Deutzer Hafen in Cologne to a future district with more than 9.500
daily users is used as a case study in building a decision support system for
urban planning. It is composed of three parts: an agent-based model, a tangible
user interface and a synthetic population. The project enables users to get in
touch with an agent-based model (ABM) without any knowledge in coding or even
interacting with computers. It connects physical objects to digital information.
    Based on the theories of Castiglione et.al.3 , Gehl4 , Shannon5 and Jacobs6 this
project shows how to use an artificial and analog simulation model to measure
the urban vitality of the public spaces in the district, based on the activity
and travelling patterns of the population. This is done by testing different scenarios
in which we change interactive parameters of the model: the use of the buildings
and the demographics of the population. We can then determine which scenarios
benefit the most life in the public spaces of the district, by finding areas of
    interest or problematic ones. "

text: "This paper is aimed to discuss current research using data mining techniques
and industry statistics in production environments. The general research approach
is based on the idea of using data mining processes and techniques of industry
statistics to find rare and hidden patterns behind failures of complex components.
A case study will be applied to illustrate how the technique is carried out and
where the limits of this approach occur. The case study deals with a component
supplier of printing machines, which received an increasing number of client complaints,
all related to one distinct problem. The observed failures seem to occur only
among clients with very high quality standards. The affected component undergoes
a very complex production process with several steps in different departments.
Every single production unit records data information from multiple process variables
and at different points in time. In the beginning there was no understanding of
the failure causes in production at all. Therefore a huge amount of production
data had to be analyzed to find the pattern that discloses the failure.\r\nThe
data mining process starts with a first step in which the given data sets are
prepared and then cleaned. Followed up by building a prediction model. The aim
is to detect the root causes for failures and to predict potential failures in
affected components. This paper shows how to use data mining to get the answer
    on pressing production failures.\r\n"
