  text: The previous methodology for optimizing CO2 emissions and electricity costs
    in industrial applications is extended by integrating dynamic load shifting with
    battery energy storage. Building on earlier work that employed Mixed-Integer Linear
    Programming (MILP) to manage a stationary battery based on real-time electricity
    prices and CO2 intensity signals, two industrial machines and one electric vehicle
    (EV) are now incorporated as additional shiftable loads. These new elements introduce
    further operational constraints while enhancing energy management flexibility.
    The framework employs an adjustable weighting factor λ to balance environmental
    impact and cost, and comparative analyses across three scenarios—battery-only,
    load-shifting-only, and combined—demonstrate nearly additive CO2 reductions alongside
    non-additive cost improvements, underscoring the synergistic potential for environmental
    benefits despite diminishing cost returns. Moreover, validation against dynamic
    programming confirms the MILP approach’s accuracy and computational efficiency.

  text: "Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit der konkreten Frage nach dem Einfluss
    von Video on\r\nDemand-Diensten (im weiteren Verlauf der Arbeit entsprechend mit
    VoD abgekürzt), wie\r\nbeispielsweise „Netflix“ oder „Amazon Prime Video“, auf
    die traditionelle Kinokultur.\r\nUm diese Leitfrage beantworten zu können, wird
    sie in einzelne Bereiche. Hierfür werden folgende\r\nweitere Fragestellungen
    behandelt:\r\n1. Beeinflusst die Art, bzw. der Typ eines Kinos die jeweilige Besucheranzahl?\r\n2.
    Wirkt sich eine, seitens der VoD-Dienste angestrebte, Verkürzung der sog.\r\n„Auswertungskette“
    negativ auf den (deutschen) Kinomarkt aus?\r\n3. Beeinflusst Binge-Watching die
    Attraktivität eines Kinobesuches und den damit\r\neinhergehenden Filmkonsum?\r\nNeben
    einer literaturbasierten Recherche wurde zur Beantwortung dieser Leitfragen auch
    eine\r\nOnline-Umfrage durchgeführt, welche hauptsächlich quantitative Forschungsmethoden\r\nverwendete,
    um eine mögliche Trendentwicklung zu beobachten.\r\nDurch die geringe Teilnehmerquote
    (n = 56) aber auch die ungleiche Verteilung der einzelnen\r\nAltersgruppen, wurden
    die Ergebnisse dieser Umfrage nicht als absoluter Beleg oder Widerlegung\r\nvon
    einzelnen Fragen verwendet. Lediglich die Ableitung möglicher Trendentwicklungen
    konnte\r\nin diesem Fall vorgenommen werden."

    OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Detmold, the project focuses on
    developing and integrating a digital reflection assistant called “As U know” to
    complement building physics education.\r\nThe reflection assistant is introduced
    in an application-oriented module and brings together a diverse range of learning
    resources including sample exercises, glossaries, videos, tests, quizzes and more.
    Special focus is placed on interactive videos that are intended to support the
    development of problem-specific solutions for the complex requirements arising
    from the students' own designs.\r\nMany architecture and interior architecture
    students struggle with the challenge of harmonizing the learned principles of
    building physics with their individual creative design processes. As a result,
    face-to-face correction discussions offered are often used ineffectively or even
    avoided by students due to insecurity. To counteract this, \"As U know\" provides
    students individual support independent of time and location, helping them prepare
    effectively for correction discussions.\r\nIn a survey conducted as part of the
    project, all users stated that the test version had supported or had rather supported
    them in applying the required building physics content. Forty six percent reported
    feeling less or tendentially less inhibited in taking advantage of the face-to-face
    corrections."

  text: Water-level reduction frequently occurs in deep reservoirs, but its effect
    on dissolved oxygen concentration is not well understood. In this study we used
    a well-established water quality model to illustrate effects of water level dynamics
    on oxygen concentration in Rappbode Reservoir, Germany. We then systematically
    elucidated the potential of selective withdrawal to control hypoxia under changing
    water levels. Our results documented a gradual decrease of hypolimnetic oxygen
    concentration under decreasing water level, and hypoxia occurred when the initial
    level was lower than 410 m a.s.l (71 m relative to the reservoir bottom). We also
    suggested that changes of hypoxic region, under increasing hypolimnetic withdrawal
    discharge, followed a unimodal trajectory with the maximum hypoxic area projected
    under the discharge between 3 m3/sec and 4 m3/sec. Besides, our results illustrated
    the extent of hypoxia was most effectively inhibited if the withdrawal strategy
    was applied at the end of stratification with the outlet elevation at the deepest
    part of the reservoir. Moreover, hypoxia can be totally avoided under a hybrid
    elevation withdrawal strategy using surface withdrawal during early and mid stratification,
    and deep withdrawal at the end of stratification. We further confirmed the decisive
    role of thermal structure in the formation of hypoxia under water-level reduction
    and withdrawal strategies. We believe the conclusions from this study can be applied
    to many deep waters in the temperate zone, and the results should guide stakeholders
    to mitigate negative impacts of hypoxia on aquatic ecosystems.

  text: Low voltage direct current microgrids (DC-MG) provide a solution for increased
    efficiency by the reduction of conversion losses, total reuse of recuperation
    energy and an increased share of local power generation. Especially industrial
    applications ask for high uptimes and a stable voltage supply, which are both
    at stake in a power grid dominated by renewable generation. DC-MGs overcome these
    drawbacks by balancing energy distribution and power demand locally. For the planning
    and design of these grids a systemic approach is needed, due to the fact that
    many components are interacting. The task arises of structuring the knowledge
    available for individual technologies in an overall design framework. For this
    purpose, current state-of-the-art design processes are discussed in this article.
    These processes are mapped into the context of the requirements in an industrial
    environment. The findings are transferred to the design of industrial DC networks.
    Finally, a complete design process for DC-MGs is derived, which is proposed as
    a basis for the development of tools.

  text: This paper reports on a study (N = 471) exploring the acceptance of video-based
    home monitoring systems as well as criteria influencing their acceptance. While
    most participants stated that they would home monitoring solutions under certain
    conditions, the majority of participants is rather reluctant to use systems that
    transmit visual and acoustical information to remote medical personnel. Besides
    age, most user characteristics, which played important roles in technology acceptance
    research for many years, do not appear to be decisive factors for the acceptance
    of electronic home-monitoring services.

  text: This paper illustrates the development of the roomXT system, a mixed reality
    communication system for the home domain. RoomXT virtually extends a user's physical
    environment by providing a “life-like” communication channel for informal and
    spontaneous interactions. We use a wall-sized display together with head-tracking
    and 3D rendering to achieve visual contiguity between the real and a virtual environment.
    As one possible application of this system, we set up a remote dining situation
    for two users. The dinner table is visually extended into the virtual environment
    in which a live video stream of the dining partner is shown. Great care was taken
    in regard to the aesthetic and device-free integration into the living room. First
    impressions of potential users support the validity of our design decisions.

  text: High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging is the latest approach to capture and display
    the real world lifelike and with highest precision in digital form. In contrast
    to ordinary photo / video cameras and output devices like CRTs or LCDs, the HDR
    technology offers an unknown extended contrast ratio and color richness. It is
    supposed to represent the original lighting situation of a scene including all
    details in the shadows and the lights as it was perceived by a human in the moment
    of shooting the digital image. HDR pictures and videos are promised to boost the
    sensation of digital content in a way, typical recording and presentation systems
    cannot achieve. In this Master Thesis the fundamentals and the possible fields
    of application of HDR are presented and evaluated. Besides a comprehensive overview
    about advantages and deficiencies of capturing and display technologies a deeper
    look inside the HDR image processing and encoding is given. The additional case
    study shows the experimental transfer of HDR still image generation techniques
    to the area of video. The occurred technical and methodical problems and final
    results are discussed in detail and finally, the future appliance of HDR in photography
    and videography is outlined.
