The method combines model-based and data-driven techniques to decompose ODDs into three key components: environmental, scenery, and dynamic elements. It then applies prompt engineering to generate ScenarioRunner scripts compatible with CARLA. The model-based component guides the LLM using structured prompts and a “Tree of Thoughts” strategy to outline the scenario, while a data-driven refinement process, drawing inspiration from red teaming, enhances the accuracy and robustness of the generated scripts over time. Experimental results show that while static components, such as weather and road layouts, are well captured, dynamic elements like vehicle and pedestrian behavior require further refinement. Overall, this approach not only reduces the manual effort involved in creating simulation scenarios but also identifies key challenges and opportunities for advancing safer and more adaptive autonomous driving systems."}],"department":[{"_id":"DEP5023"},{"_id":"DEP5000"}],"intvolume":" 14","user_id":"83781","type":"scientific_journal_article","_id":"13120","doi":"10.3390/electronics14163177","place":"Basel","volume":14,"citation":{"ama":"Danso AA, Büker U. Das Zusammenspiel individueller Planungsstrategien von Mitarbeitenden innerhalb eines Fertigungsprozesses kann sich positiv als auch negativ auf das Erreichen der produktionslogistischen Zielgrößen auswirken. One way they could be reactivated for bidirectional on demand traffic is by small cabin-like vehicles, lateral stabilized by a system of control moment gyroscopes and a moveable mass. Regarding such a vehicle, there is currently no reference in comparison with other vehicles and no experimental experience or the like. To ensure the functionality and safety of the vehicle even before its realization, a model-based design is carried out for development, analysis, optimization and testing. This paper is focused on the co-simulation of such a vehicle that is controlled by a longitudinal control. In order to take into account the complex interaction between the longitudinal dynamics and the running gear, the entire system must be considered here including the wheel/rail interaction. Co-simulations are performed considering both the mechanical model of the vehicle and the control of the longitudinal dynamics of the overall system. The simulation results show that functionality and safe operation can be ensured by the vehicle longitudinal controls. As a result, the simulation and the measurement of the real system show a good match. By means of HIL and co-simulations, function tests could be shifted to earlier development stages, in order to accelerate the overall development."}]},{"title":"Modelling activated carbon hydrogen storage tanks using machine learning models","citation":{"short":"G.H. In addition to traditional cryogenic and high-pressure tanks, an alternative approach involves utilizing porous materials such as activated carbons within the storage tank. The adsorption behaviour of hydrogen in porous structures is described using the Dubinin-Astakhov isotherm. To model the flow of hydrogen within the tank, we rely on the equations of mass conservation, the Navier-Stokes equations, and the equation of energy conservation, which are implemented in a computational fluid dynamics code and additional terms account for the amount of hydrogen involved in sorption and the corresponding heat release. While physical models are valuable, data-driven models often offer computational advantages. Based on the data from the physical adsorption model, a data-driven model is derived using various machine learning techniques. This model is then incorporated as source terms in the governing conservation equations, resulting in a novel hybrid formulation which is computationally more efficient. Consequently, a new method is presented to compute the temperature and concentration distribution during the charging and discharging of hydrogen tanks and identifying any limiting phenomena more easily."}],"publisher":"Elsevier BV","type":"scientific_journal_article","user_id":"83781","intvolume":" 306","place":"Amsterdam","_id":"11808","doi":"10.1016/j.energy.2024.132318","article_number":"132318"},{"type":"scientific_journal_article","intvolume":" 146","user_id":"83781","_id":"12215","doi":"10.1016/j.jes.2023.06.025","place":"Amsterdam","publication_status":"published","issue":"12","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Water-level reduction frequently occurs in deep reservoirs, but its effect on dissolved oxygen concentration is not well understood. In this study we used a well-established water quality model to illustrate effects of water level dynamics on oxygen concentration in Rappbode Reservoir, Germany. We then systematically elucidated the potential of selective withdrawal to control hypoxia under changing water levels. Our results documented a gradual decrease of hypolimnetic oxygen concentration under decreasing water level, and hypoxia occurred when the initial level was lower than 410 m a.s.l (71 m relative to the reservoir bottom). We also suggested that changes of hypoxic region, under increasing hypolimnetic withdrawal discharge, followed a unimodal trajectory with the maximum hypoxic area projected under the discharge between 3 m3/sec and 4 m3/sec. Besides, our results illustrated the extent of hypoxia was most effectively inhibited if the withdrawal strategy was applied at the end of stratification with the outlet elevation at the deepest part of the reservoir. Moreover, hypoxia can be totally avoided under a hybrid elevation withdrawal strategy using surface withdrawal during early and mid stratification, and deep withdrawal at the end of stratification. We further confirmed the decisive role of thermal structure in the formation of hypoxia under water-level reduction and withdrawal strategies. We believe the conclusions from this study can be applied to many deep waters in the temperate zone, and the results should guide stakeholders to mitigate negative impacts of hypoxia on aquatic ecosystems."}],"department":[{"_id":"DEP8022"}],"publisher":"Elsevier BV","quality_controlled":"1","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["1878-7320"],"issn":["1001-0742"]},"publication":"Journal of Environmental Sciences","date_created":"2024-12-08T19:42:28Z","date_updated":"2024-12-11T13:49:18Z","keyword":["Hypoxia","Water-level reduction","Hypolimnetic water withdrawal","Stratification phenology","Water quality simulation","Sediment oxygen demand"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"title":"Optimizing selective withdrawal strategies to mitigate hypoxia under water-level reduction in Germany's largest drinking water reservoir","citation":{"short":"C. Green space planning aims to transform cities towards urban sustainability and resilience. In a longitudinal study, representatives from eleven European municipalities that had previously been interviewed in 2014 were re-interviewed in 2020–2021 on changes in urban greening and related practices. The interviewees reported mainly advancements in dealing with ecological issues, such as new plans, strategies, regulations or funding programmes for climate adaptation or biodiversity support, as well as some progress in co-governance with non-governmental stakeholders. Promising developments include breaking professional silos by creating new units that can better deal with complex urban issues. In a few cases, high-level local politicians induced profound changes. These changes stimulated the development of new planning and governance cultures, resulting in more co-creation of urban green spaces. However, from a transformation studies perspective, incremental strategies dominate, and even when municipal representatives are aware that substantive changes are needed, they often lack the means to act. For more radical system change, significant extra efforts are needed."}],"department":[{"_id":"DEP9000"},{"_id":"DEP9012"}],"quality_controlled":"1","publisher":"Taylor & Francis","date_created":"2025-05-08T12:03:02Z","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["1469-5944"],"issn":["0965-4313"]},"publication":"European Planning Studies","date_updated":"2026-03-26T09:48:50Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["Co-governance","participation","climate change","sustainability transformations","green infrastructure"],"extern":"1","title":"Transformative or piecemeal? Seropositivity is not necessarily associated with clinical disease. Data on seropositivity against Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in German horses are sparse. Therefore, serum samples from horses (n = 123) suspected of having Lyme borreliosis and clinically healthy horses (n = 113) from the same stables were tested for specific antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and Anaplasma phagocytophilum. The samples were screened for antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi (ELISA and an IgG line immunoblot assay). Furthermore, the samples were examined for antibodies against B. burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum with a validated rapid in-house test (SNAP® 4Dx Plus® ELISA). The clinical signs of suspect horses included lameness (n = 36), poor performance (n = 19), and apathy (n = 12). Twenty-three percent (n = 26) of suspect horses and 17% (n = 18) of clinically healthy horses were seropositive for having a Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato infection (p = 0.371), showing that the detection of specific antibodies against B. burgdorferi alone is not sufficient for a diagnosis of equine LB. Anaplasma phagocytophilum seropositivity and seropositivity against both pathogens was 20%/6% in suspect horses and 16%/2% in the clinically healthy population, showing only minor differences (p = 0.108). Unspecific testing for antibodies against B. burgdorferi without clinical suspicion of Lyme borreliosis is not recommended since the clinical relevance of seropositivity against Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato remains to be elucidated."}],"department":[{"_id":"DEP4010"}],"quality_controlled":"1","publisher":"MDPI AG","publication_status":"published","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["equine Lyme borreliosis","equine granulocytic anaplasmosis","seroprevalence","co-infection"],"date_created":"2025-06-15T09:35:35Z","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2076-2615"]},"publication":"Animals","date_updated":"2025-06-16T09:16:39Z","author":[{"first_name":"Heidrun","last_name":"Gehlen","full_name":"Gehlen, Heidrun"},{"last_name":"Inerle","full_name":"Inerle, Katharina","first_name":"Katharina"},{"full_name":"Bartel, Alexander","first_name":"Alexander","last_name":"Bartel"},{"full_name":"Stöckle, Sabita Diana","first_name":"Sabita Diana","last_name":"Stöckle"},{"orcid":"0000-0002-4511-9537","first_name":"Sebastian","full_name":"Ulrich, Sebastian","id":"85847","last_name":"Ulrich"},{"first_name":"Beatrice","full_name":"Briese, Beatrice","last_name":"Briese"},{"full_name":"Straubinger, Reinhard K.","first_name":"Reinhard K.","last_name":"Straubinger"}],"year":"2023","status":"public","extern":"1","title":"Seroprevalence of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and Anaplasma phagocytophilum Infections in German Horses","citation":{"ieee":"H. Challenges such as an increasing number of variants, rapid changes in technology, and a multitude of interfaces between IT systems within companies require changed qualifications in the workforce. Employees lack a profound understanding of the added value that digitalization can bring to the company and themselves. To address these challenges, simulation games are a suitable approach. Simulation games are active learning methods that simulate real systems in an artificial environment. The goal is to give employees the opportunity to gain experience and make decisions without creating a pressure situation or endangering the real production system. This enables them to better understand, evaluate and design real systems. In order to make optimal use of simulation games in manufacturing companies, they should be customized to the company and its employees due to individual processes and structures. This paper presents a procedure model for designing a concept of individualized simulation games for manufacturing companies in the context of digitalization. It starts with the identification of requirements. Subsequently, the requirements of the individual elements are combined into a holistic simulation game. The piloting of the framework is presented using an example from industrial practice."}],"date_updated":"2025-06-24T13:45:56Z","user_id":"83781","intvolume":" 119","date_created":"2025-06-24T13:42:09Z","type":"scientific_journal_article","publication":"Procedia CIRP","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2212-8271"]},"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["industry 4.0","digitalization","digital transformation","simulation games","game-based learning","education","employee education","qualification"],"place":"Amsterdam [u.a.]","doi":"10.1016/j.procir.2023.03.145","_id":"13019"},{"abstract":[{"text":"Sub-optimal control policies in intersection traffic signal controllers (TSC) contribute to congestion and lead to negative effects on human health and the environment. They can support the development process of a production machine by avoiding an inadequate layout of components or an erroneous control design. However, the effort for building them is often too high for this purpose (lot size one). An automated model generation can be utilized to overcome the gap between efforts and advantages of dynamic simulations.\r\n\r\nThis contribution presents an approach for simplifying the dynamic model generation of production machines by using the so-called Asset Administration Shell defined by the initiative Platform Industrie 4.0. The Asset Administration Shell was developed to aggregate all data necessary for maintaining the product across its life cycle. This includes component data and models as well as structural information about a machine. The generation process is performed by using the common FMI standard and a two-step procedure which allows the linkage of different simulation tools. The model generation is demonstrated by an example layout of a machine's internal direct current grid."}],"department":[{"_id":"DEP6020"},{"_id":"DEP5022"}],"conference":{"end_date":"2021-12-16","start_date":"2021-12-13","name":"2021 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM)","location":"Online (Singapore)"},"user_id":"83781","type":"conference_editor_article","doi":"10.1109/IEEM50564.2021.9673089","_id":"8384","place":"[Piscataway, NJ]"},{"user_id":"83781","type":"conference","doi":"https://doi.org/10.25644/g9g6-aw44","_id":"6635","has_accepted_license":"1","file":[{"relation":"main_file","creator":"5bw-b6d","date_updated":"2021-10-20T20:28:55Z","file_id":"6636","file_size":1907999,"date_created":"2021-10-20T20:28:55Z","file_name":"OS2 Proceedings_AD-LS-UP.pdf","content_type":"application/pdf","access_level":"open_access","success":1}],"publication_status":"published","quality_controlled":"1","abstract":[{"text":"[Intro] The paper introduces a participatory tool for assessment of the Middle-Class Mass Housing (MCMH) in Europe that was simultaneously applied in two studies, on the two cases New Belgrade (Serbia) and Almere Haven (The Netherlands). The studies were exploring the values, problems and opportunities of these residential neighbourhoods through the eyes of their residents. \r\n\r\n[Method] A comparative analysis reveals contrasting and complementary aspects of the two cases. Exploratory interviews and surveys were used to collect testimonies of residents, informing the method of assessment (co-diagnosis) in residential neighbourhoods. By applying the same tool and comparing results, the paper contributes to a validation of this method for research on MCMH neighbourhoods in different regions and for different MCMH typologies and scales. \r\n\r\n[Result] The paper highlights some main themes of residents’ analysis of their neighbourhood’s strengths and weaknesses. Aspects discussed are, among others, deterioration (technical, functional, social), sense of community, place attachment, maintenance and taking care, ownership and appropriation, quality of public spaces and green areas, satisfaction and comfort. Both researches are still in development, but some preliminary conclusions can be sketched. Although both cases were built in the same decades (1970s-80s), they seem to hold opposite architectural and urban characteristics. New Belgrade is composed of modernist blocks with mass housing types in a high-rise urban pattern with mainly collective green spaces. Almere Haven is a suburban low-rise pattern and consists of a wide variety of typologies, materials and a range of private, collective and public green spaces. However, the residents’ opinions and assessments show many similarities, regarding the themes they address and the values and problems they identify.\r\n\r\n[Value for MCMH] The paper illustrates the diversity of MCMH in two different European regions and projects, identifying the broad scope that is needed to assess MCMH. Moreover, the method of exploratory talks with residents is identified as an important participatory tool within the broader analytical framework for MCMH neighbourhoods. The method combines regenerative design and co-commitment that are recognized as decisive factors in mass housing revitalisation. The spatial focus of the research is on New Belgrade Blocks (Serbia) that are part of the larger phenomenon of the post-socialist urban heritage. The neighbourhoods that are part of this larger framework are having common attributes and facing similar issues nowadays. Comprehending and managing change in these neighbourhoods requires community-driven actions that would include all relevant stakeholders in the process through co-commitment. The actions, that would be based on regenerative and biophilic design, would ensure both maintenance of green spaces of the neighbourhoods, as well as integration of new nature-based solutions. The approach is enhancing the role of community and highlighting the important values of common spaces in ensuring vitality of mass housing and co-creating healthy and liveable environments. The paper is contributing to contemporary discussions on resilient cities and communities and promoting participatory and integrated urban renewal.","lang":"eng"}],"department":[{"_id":"DEP1000"},{"_id":"DEP1055"}],"conference":{"end_date":"2021-10-09","start_date":"2021-10-08","location":"Budapest","name":"Doconf 2021: Facing post-socialist urban heritage"},"ddc":["720"],"user_id":"83781","type":"conference","doi":"https://doi.org/10.25644/srfb-k706","_id":"6752","place":"Budapest","has_accepted_license":"1","citation":{"ama":"Dragutinovic A, Pottgiesser U. The goal of this architecture is to reduce the implementation effort of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in CPPS. Declarative user goals and the provided algorithm-knowledge base allow the dynamic pipeline orchestration and configuration. A big data platform (BDP) instantiates the pipelines and monitors the CPPS performance for further evaluation through the cognitive module. Thus, the cognitive module is able to select feasible and robust configurations for process pipelines in varying use cases. Furthermore, it automatically adapts the models and algorithms based on model quality and resource consumption. The cognitive module also instantiates additional pipelines to evaluate algorithms from different classes on test functions. CAAI relies on well-defined interfaces to enable the integration of additional modules and reduce implementation effort. Finally, an implementation based on Docker, Kubernetes, and Kafka for the virtualization and orchestration of the individual modules and as messaging technology for module communication is used to evaluate a real-world use case.","lang":"eng"}],"issue":"11-12","department":[{"_id":"DEP5023"}]},{"status":"public","page":"293-302","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/bitstream/handle/document/79054/ssoar-2021-dally_et_al-myField_Ein_webbasiertes_Partizipations-Tool_zur.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y&lnkname=ssoar-2021-dally_et_al-myField_Ein_webbasiertes_Partizipations-Tool_zur.pdf"}],"year":"2021","author":[{"full_name":"Dally, Benjamin","first_name":"Benjamin","last_name":"Dally","id":"56914"},{"first_name":"Kai-Fabian","id":"44017","last_name":"Henning","full_name":"Henning, Kai-Fabian"},{"first_name":"Carsten","id":"75372","full_name":"Oldenburg, Carsten","last_name":"Oldenburg"},{"orcid":"0009-0001-8565-8199","id":"61520","first_name":"Axel","last_name":"Häusler","full_name":"Häusler, Axel"},{"first_name":"Klaus","last_name":"Greve","full_name":"Greve, Klaus"},{"last_name":"Kühle","first_name":"Sebastian","full_name":"Kühle, Sebastian"}],"citation":{"short":"B. Therefore, we present a method that incorporates Hardware-in-the-Loop simulations where virtual components as models are coupled to real and experimental facilities in real time. By including experimental components, a higher validity can be obtained and the practical applicability of renewable energy scenario can be discussed more profoundly. In this paper, the considered energy system consists of an experimental biocatalytic methanation reactor, a real photovoltaic park, a regenerative fuel cell and short-term storage units to supply a residential district. A representative control sequence of the methanator is obtained by modeling the scenario as an optimal control problem. A first HIL simulation highlights that modifications of the instrumentation are required for a grid injection of the generated methane. The scientific approach can be applied to any energy system where some of the considered components are available as experimental or real facilities. Non-exisiting components are simply replaced by models. The presented approach helps to determine which parts or process parameters are crucial for the planed operation before the overall energy system is realized on a larger scale. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. The objective is to shorten the time between quoting for individually designed products and their production and delivery. Therefore, reliable automated and fast evaluation procedures are needed to ensure the quality of the individually designed products in terms of product safety and reliability. This paper aims \r\nto demonstrate how a metamodel, generated on simulated data, adapts to the type of product and delivers the required quality and evaluation procedure. The metamodel guarantees the requested characteristics of the final product without the consultation of human expert knowledge. As proof of concept, a simple, well-documented task from the field of construction has been chosen. The estimation from of the metamodel will meet all safety requirements, is based on the individual input variables and is confirmed without expert interaction. Fast, reliable prediction models deriving from complex simulation models are indispensable conditions for direct digital manufacturing. Using metamodels in automation contexts will be a foundation of manufacturing in future.","lang":"eng"}],"issue":"1","conference":{"location":"Lemgo","name":"6th International Conference on Production Engineering and Management ","end_date":"2016-09-30","start_date":"2016-09-29"},"department":[{"_id":"DEP1306"}],"publisher":"Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe","series_title":"\t Publication series in direct digital manufacturing ","publication_status":"published","_id":"472","place":"Lemgo","type":"conference","intvolume":" 2016","user_id":"83781","author":[{"first_name":"Eva","last_name":"Scheideler","full_name":"Scheideler, Eva","id":"61522"},{"last_name":"Ahlemeyer-Stubbe","first_name":"Andrea","full_name":"Ahlemeyer-Stubbe, Andrea"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.hs-owl.de/fileadmin/diman/Veroeffentlichungen/PEM_2016_Proceeding_2016_09_14_Inhaltsnavigation.pdf","open_access":"1"}],"year":"2016","page":"269-280","status":"public","title":"Expert Knowledge Systems to Ensure Quality and Reliability in Direct Digital Manufacturing Enviroments","citation":{"ieee":"E. The system uses a wall-sized display that is seamlessly integrated into a living lab, to create a 'life-like' video communication experience. In order to demonstrate the potential of this approach, we conducted a living lab study comparing the developed prototype with a desktop-based system. A special video communication application, which enables spatially separated users to have a joint dinner experience, served as a common basis for the different test conditions. Results of the study show that the overall concept of roomXT was well eceived by users of a wide age range and that the developed prototype system seems to be preferred to commercially available video communication solutions with respect to the tested quality dimensions.","lang":"eng"}],"conference":{"name":"PerDis 2012: The International Symposium on Pervasive Displays","location":"Porto, Portugal ","end_date":"2012-06","start_date":"2012-06"},"department":[{"_id":"DEP5023"}],"publication_status":"published","doi":"10.1145/2307798.2307811","_id":"4395","place":"New York","user_id":"15514","type":"conference","page":"1-6","status":"public","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1"}],"author":[{"last_name":"Kasugai","first_name":"Kai","full_name":"Kasugai, Kai"},{"first_name":"Felix","last_name":"Heidrich","full_name":"Heidrich, Felix"},{"id":"61525","full_name":"Röcker, Carsten","last_name":"Röcker","first_name":"Carsten"},{"full_name":"Russell, Peter","first_name":"Peter","last_name":"Russell"},{"first_name":"Martina","last_name":"Ziefle","full_name":"Ziefle, Martina"}],"year":2012,"citation":{"short":"K. This paper investigates the case of feeding many small shipments to customers via a freight forwarder network. It is argued that costs for post-carriage transport dominate other costs. Based on a theoretical estimate, simulation experiments for the case of a uniform distribution of customer locations around the subsidiary with a fixed shipment size per drop suggest that the aggregate costs grow progressively with increasing customer drop distances from the subsidiary. The resulting implications for transport modelling are discussed."}]},{"publication_status":"published","conference":{"start_date":"2010-06-30","end_date":"2010-07-02","location":"Loughborough, UK","name":"Proceedings of Create’10 "},"department":[{"_id":"DEP5023"}],"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"This paper gives an overview of how the role of architecture, design, and HCI is to be redefined in a world of ubiquitous computing and the recent advances in display technology.
