[{"publication_status":"published","abstract":[{"text":"Cognitive radios (CR) can sense and detect temporarily available spectral holes for an opportunistic operation to improve the spectral efficiency and coexistence of industrial radio systems. It will be of particular interest for a CR system to apply predictive modeling in order to forecast the behavior of the coexisting environment. A secondary cognitive user shall use preemptive tuning of its operating parameters following the predictive model. However, a considerable challenge is to generate an accurate model and predict efficiently in order to meet strict time related requirements of industrial applications. Such predictive modeling has already gained some attention but real-time experimental results have never been reported to the best of our knowledge. In this contribution we investigate the performance of a Markov model based CR system using simulative and experimental environments for its application in industrial systems.","lang":"eng"}],"department":[{"_id":"DEP5000"},{"_id":"DEP5023"}],"conference":{"start_date":"2012-09-17","end_date":"2012-09-21","location":"Krakow, Poland ","name":"17th IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation"},"publisher":"IEEE","type":"conference_editor_article","user_id":"83781","doi":"10.1109/ETFA.2012.6489557","_id":"10164","place":"Piscataway, NJ","title":"Predictive Oppertunistic Spectrum Access Using Markov Models","citation":{"ieee":"K. The current research challenge is to design and realize radio systems that should be able to achieve a desired quality of service (QoS) in this coexisting environment. Currently transmission resources of hyperspace are not properly exploited. The cognitive radio (CR), which can adapt to the environmental changes by reconfiguring itself, can be used to implement intelligent radio systems to exploit the orthogonal nature of multiple dimensions of hyperspace to maintain the desired QoS in coexisting factory environments. We present initial results of a coexistence optimized CR which can exploit frequency and power, which are two of several dimensions of hyperspace, to improve its QoS in coexisting environments."}],"status":"public","publisher":"IEEE ","title":"A Generic Cognitive Radio for Evaluating Coexistence Optimized Industrial Automation Systems","citation":{"chicago":"Ahmad, Kaleem, Uwe Meier, Andreas Pape, Halina Kwasnicka, and Bjoern Griese. A Generic Cognitive Radio for Evaluating Coexistence Optimized Industrial Automation Systems. 2009 6th IEEE Annual Communications Society Conference on Sensor, Mesh and Ad Hoc Communications and Networks Workshops.
