text: 'Urban transformation and urban preservation are often seen as contradicting
goals. Currently, there is no agreed - upon strategy on how to transform historic
parts of the city while maintaining their heritage values. Many cities today are
characterised by modern 20th - century heritage, yet it poses a challenge to their
liveability and to the adoption of less car - dependent lifestyles. The concept
of 15 - minute cities can be used to improve urban liveability, which may positively
affect the experience and functionality of modern historic urban landscapes (HUL).
A review of the existing literature on the 15 - minute city concept was carried
out with the aim of identifying its key indicators and proposing possible new
ones. This research primarily explores how the 15 - minute city concept can be
applied holistically and efficiently in modern heritage. Following the PRISMA
guidelines, 20 articles published after the introduction of the concept and meeting
the inclusion criteria in the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases were reviewed.
Selected examples and case studies are analysed to contextualise these variables
and explore how they can be reflected in modern historic urban landscapes. As
a result, the following variables are identified as central to the 15 - minute
city concept: mobility, time, distance, speed, functions of the amenities each
with their associated indicators. Moreover, spatial characteristics, human - centred
factors and heritage values are proposed as variables. The results are expected
to give insights into how to operationalise the concept of 15 - minute cities
in modern sites of historic urban landscapes, in order to improve liveability
while simultaneously preserving its values. This research contributes to the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting walkable, climate - resilient neighbourhoods.
In particular, it aligns with SDG Target 11.4, which focuses on cultural and natural
heritage.'

text: "This paper presents a pioneering approach to integrating artistic research
into the curriculum of\r\nGerman universities of applied sciences (UAS). Recognizing
the unique challenges and opportunities\r\npresented by artistic disciplines in
higher education, we have developed modules for a master's\r\nprogram that blend

the current disparity in qualification opportunities for artistic disciplines
at the UAS level,\r\nwhere artistic achievements are legally equated with scientific
accomplishments, yet opportunities for\r\nhigher qualification in these fields
are limited.\r\nOur approach is anchored in the belief that artistic research,

alongside scientific knowledge, deserves a structured and\r\nrecognized pathway
within the academic system. Drawing from relevant legal texts and documents\r\nthat
equate artistic and scientific qualifications of personnel, we argue for the integration
of artistic\r\nresearch into the curriculum as a step towards rectifying the existing

text: Previous CSCW research has paid increasing attention to regional innovation
systems providing the context for CSCW research and design. In this paper we provide
insights into attempts to intervene in such a regional innovation system via practice-oriented
activities. Our findings describe experiences of co-creating knowledge around
digitization of SMEs on a regional level, beyond individual company contexts.
We reflect on the benefits and challenges such an approach affords and highlight
the importance of interpersonal relationships and similarities between practices
in different contexts to enable intended but also initially unexpected knowledge
spillovers. Our findings highlight how a praxeological approach to CSCW can be
influential in regional development programs, and open this field to CSCW research
and design. We draw out lessons for similar interventions and outline fruitful
avenues for future research.

monofunktionales Bild.

text: Low-code programming allows the creation of software applications using a
graphical user interface with minimal classical programming code ("low code")
and without requiring extensive programming knowledge. This puts it in contrast
to previous generations of programming languages. The advantages of low-code development
are manifold, including the increase of software development capacities through
a partial decentralization of the development process, speeding up software development
through the low-code approach, and designing software with a strong user-centric
focus. Using a low-code development platform can help companies adapt their own
business processes to changing requirements more quickly and to make complexity
resulting, for example, from heterogeneous customer wishes, manageable. Since
many low-code development platforms are available, it is not easy for companies
to select and successfully introduce a platform that meets their requirements.
For this reason, this article presents a procedure model that assists in the process
of selecting and implementing a platform.

text: Brown trout (Salmo trutta) is an important aquaculture species in Germany,
but its production faces challenges due to global warming and a high embryo mortality.
Climate factors might influence the fish’s bacterial community (BC) and thus increase
embryo mortality. Yet, knowledge of the physiological BC during ontogeny in general
is scarce. In this project, the BC of brown trout has been investigated in a period
from unfertilized egg to 95 days post fertilization (dpf) using 16S rRNA gene
amplicon sequencing. Developmental changes differed between early and late ontogeny
and major differences in BC occurred especially during early developmental stages.
Thus, analysis was conducted separately for 0 to 67 dpf and from 67 to 95 dpf.
All analyzed stages were sampled in toto to avoid bias due to different sampling
methods in different developmental stages. The most abundant phylum in the BC
of all developmental stages was Pseudomonadota, while only two families (Comamonadaceae
and Moraxellaceae) occurred in all developmental stages. The early developmental
stages until 67 dpf displayed greater shifts in their BC regarding bacterial richness,
microbial diversity, and taxonomic composition. Thereafter, in the fry stages,
the BC seemed to stabilize and changes were moderate. In future studies, a reduction
in the sampling time frames during early development, an increase in sampling
numbers, and an attempt for biological reproduction in order to characterize the
causes of these variations is recommended.

text: Natural ventilation in a building is an effective way to achieve acceptable
indoor air quality. Ventilation dilutes contaminants such as bioeffluents generated
by occupants, substances emitted from building materials, and the water vapor
generated by occupants’ activities. In a building that requires heating and cooling,
adequate ventilation is crucial to minimize energy consumption while maintaining
healthy indoor air quality. However, measuring the actual magnitude of the natural
ventilation rate, including infiltration through the building envelope and airflow
through the building openings, is not always feasible. Although international
and national standards suggested the required ventilation rates to maintain acceptable
indoor air quality in buildings, they did not offer action plans to achieve or
evaluate those design ventilation rates in buildings in use. In this study, the
occupant-generated carbon dioxide (CO2) tracer gas decay method was applied to
estimate the ventilation rates in an office room in Seoul, South Korea, from summer
to winter. Using the method, real-time ventilation rates can be calculated by
monitoring indoor and outdoor CO2 concentrations without injecting a tracer gas.
For natural ventilation in the test room, 145 mm-diameter circular openings on
the fixed glass were used. As a result, first, the indoor CO2 concentrations were
used as an indicator to evaluate how much the indoor air quality deteriorated
when all the windows were closed in an occupied office room compared to the international
standards for indoor air quality. Moreover, we found out that the estimated ventilation
rates varied depending on various environmental conditions, even with the same
openings for natural ventilation. Considering the indoor and outdoor temperature
differences and outdoor wind speeds as the main factors influencing the ventilation
rates, we analyzed how they affected the ventilation rates in the different seasons
of South Korea. When the wind speeds were calm, less than 2 m/s, the temperature
difference played as a factor that influenced the estimated ventilation rates.
On the other hand, when the temperature differences were low, less than 3 °C,
the wind speed was the primary factor. This study raises awareness about the risk
of poor indoor air quality in office rooms that could lead to health problems
or unpleasant working environments. This study presents an example of estimating
the ventilation rates in an existing building. By using the presented method,
the ventilation rate in an existing building can be simply estimated while using
the building as usual, and appropriate ventilation strategies for the building
can be determined to maintain the desired indoor air quality.

text: 'Resource efficiency was the central theme of Prof. Dr. Uta Pottgiesser’s
key-note address. In other words, efficiency with regard to the sustainable usage
of buildings, but also of land and materials. At the same time, the ambitious
goal of “not demolishing, but rather converting,” the demand for a “new culture
of car-ing and repairing,” has a central impact on the professional requirements
in ar-chitecture and planning–and thus also on the content of teaching and training.
In this context, it becomes clear that cultur-al heritage can serve as a model
in many respects; by the same token, it must per-haps open itself up even further
in terms of content with a view to the age of mod-ernism. '

text: Industrial heritage is among the products of modern urban development, and
the influencing factors of its regeneration and development are often complex.
Due to different national conditions, the research progress and approaches in
industrial heritage reuse in China are different from other countries. While industrial
heritage sites in Europe have become part of urban redevelopment in several regions,
China still focuses mostly on single objects, lacking systematic analysis, especially
at the urban scale. Regarding the city of Nanjing, an operational approach to
complex urban dynamics is proposed based on a simplified analysis of official
statistics, maps and GIS technology. The influence mechanisms of Nanjing’s urban
planning on industrial heritage regeneration and development after 1990 are analyzed.
The results show that urban growth boundaries, traffic accessibility, eco-environmental
policies, population distribution, industrial renovation investment and natural
resource change all have a significant impact on the abandonment and regeneration
of Nanjing industrial heritage. This study expands the research perspective of
industrial heritage reuse in China and proposes a clearer systematic planning
strategy for the future of industrial heritage in cities.

text: Technological progress, upcoming cyber-physical systems, and limited resources
confront small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the challenge of complexity
management in product development projects spanning over the entire product lifecycle.
SMEs require a solution for documenting and analyzing the functional relationships
between multiple domains such as products, software, and processes. The German
research project FuPEP “Funktionsorientiertes Komplexitätsmanagement in allen
Phasen der Produktentstehung” aims to address this issue by developing an assistance
system that supports product developers by visualizing functional relationships.
This paper presents the methodology and results of the assistance system’s requirements
elicitation with two SMEs. Conducting the elicitation during a global pandemic,
we discuss its application using specific techniques in light of COVID-19. We
model problems and their effects regarding complexity management in product development
in a system dynamics model. The most important requirements and use cases elicited
are presented, and the requirements elicitation methodology and results are discussed.
Additionally, we present a multilayer software architecture design of the assistance
system. Our case study suggests a relationship between fear of a missing project
focus among project participants and the restriction of requirements elicitation
techniques to those possible via web conferencing tools.

text:
Abstract
A statistical analysis is presented
that investigates the dependence of team cities’ geographical distances on the
effect of home advantage (HA) for 57 years of the men’s German first soccer division
(“Bundesliga”), including 17,376 matches (seasons starting from 1964 to 2020).
The data shows that the HA can clearly be evidenced in the past and present (statistical
p‑value < 0.01) and that it also exists for negligible
distances (p < 0.01). The HA and the influence of
distance on the HA both significantly decreased gradually over the last decades
(p < 0.01). For the first and only time, the HA
reversed into an away advantage (AA) for the season 2019/2020 (p < 0.01).
The influence of distance on HA has been significant (p < 0.01)
in the past (before about 1990) and contributed roughly by about half, compared
to a situation without HA or AA. It increases with distance and saturates at around
100 km. Such saturation behaviour is in line with results from higher divisions
of other countries with similar travelling distances such as Italy, Turkey and
England. However, the distance-dependent contribution to HA has been approximately
halved and reduced to an insignificant amount today. Furthermore, the temporal
HA reduction is significantly larger for large distances compared to short distances
(p < 0.01). Reporting and quantifying a reduction
(p < 0.01) of the distance-dependent contribution
to HA over a time span of 57 years is novel.

text: 'The Handbook aims to provide decision-makers with a comprehensive NBS impact
assessment framework, and a robust set of indicators and methodologies to assess
impacts of nature-based solutions across 12 societal challenge areas: Climate
Resilience; Water Management; Natural and Climate Hazards; Green Space Management;
Biodiversity; Air Quality; Place Regeneration; Knowledge and Social Capacity Building
for Sustainable Urban Transformation; Participatory Planning and Governance; Social
Justice and Social Cohesion; Health and Well-being; New Economic Opportunities
and Green Jobs. Indicators have been developed collaboratively by representatives
of 17 individual EU-funded NBS projects and collaborating institutions such as
the EEA and JRC, as part of the European Taskforce for NBS Impact Assessment,
with the four-fold objective of: serving as a reference for relevant EU policies
and activities; orient urban practitioners in developing robust impact evaluation
frameworks for nature-based solutions at different scales; expand upon the pioneering
work of the EKLIPSE framework by providing a comprehensive set of indicators and
methodologies; and build the European evidence base regarding NBS impacts. They
reflect the state of the art in current scientific research on impacts of nature-based
solutions and valid and standardized methods of assessment, as well as the state
of play in urban implementation of evaluation frameworks.'

text: 'The Handbook aims to provide decision-makers with a comprehensive NBS impact
assessment framework, and a robust set of indicators and methodologies to assess
impacts of nature-based solutions across 12 societal challenge areas: Climate
Resilience; Water Management; Natural and Climate Hazards; Green Space Management;
They
reflect the state of the art in current scientific research on impacts of nature-based
solutions and valid and standardized methods of assessment, as well as the state
of play in urban implementation of evaluation frameworks.'

text: The Old City of Aleppo, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in
the world, has been inscribed on UNESCOs World Heritage List in 1986. In the early
1990s the Aleppo municipality initiated the project for the Rehabilitation of
the Old City with the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ) as a partner.
As part of the process, a Development Plan was issued as a general framework including
ten strategies for upgrading the historical urban fabric in line with the sustainable
development. Despite implementation of these strategies, the physical fabric of
the Old City has continued to deteriorate, and the demographic transition has
continued to increase until the escalation of the Syrian Civil War in 2011. The
paper analyses the development plans strategies in the Old City of Aleppo, mainly
those related to housing aspects. It evaluates the effectiveness of these strategies
based on the concept of good urban governance that intersects with the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) aiming to overcome the administrative gaps to rebuild
the Old City more sustainably after the Syrian Civil War.

text: "This bachelor thesis explores the adaptive reuse of the former Telekom high-rise
at Kesselbrink in Bielefeld, a vacant modernist office tower awaiting new purpose.
The project proposes a mixed-use transformation that reinterprets the building
as a “city within the city,” inspired by Le Corbusier’s Unité d’Habitation in
Marseille. The existing structure is strategically reduced to its essential load-bearing
concrete frame and floor slabs, preserving the structural skeleton while enabling
radical spatial reconfiguration.\r\nPrefabricated timber modules are inserted
and cantilevered between the reinforced-concrete columns, extending the usable
floor area and introducing a warm, contemporary material contrast to the original
façade. This intervention not only increases density and flexibility but also
redefines the tower’s appearance, giving it a cosmopolitan and forward-looking
architectural identity. The ground floor is conceived as an open and publicly
accessible urban platform, activating the surrounding plaza and strengthening
social interaction. Upper floors are redesigned as affordable and attractive living
spaces for young residents, encouraging a diverse and vibrant community within
the building.\r\nA newly designed park-like rooftop landscape provides recreational
space and panoramic views over the city, enhancing environmental quality and urban
connectivity. By combining structural preservation, modular timber construction,
public programming, and residential reuse, the proposal demonstrates how high-rise
retrofitting can generate social, ecological, and economic value simultaneously.
The project positions adaptive reuse as a viable strategy for sustainable urban
regeneration and architectural longevity."

text: The Old City of Aleppo, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in
the world, has been inscribed on UNESCO{\textquoteright}s World Heritage List
in 1986. In the early 1990s the Aleppo municipality initiated the project for
the Rehabilitation of the Old City with the German Technical Cooperation Agency
(GTZ) as a partner. As part of the process, a Development Plan was issued as a
general framework including ten strategies for upgrading the historical urban
fabric in line with the sustainable development. Despite implementation of these
strategies, the physical fabric of the Old City has continued to deteriorate,
and the demographic transition has continued to increase until the escalation
of the Syrian Civil War in 2011. The paper analyses the development plan{\textquoteright}s
strategies in the Old City of Aleppo, mainly those related to housing aspects.
It evaluates the effectiveness of these strategies based on the concept of good
urban governance that intersects with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
aiming to overcome the administrative gaps to rebuild the Old City more sustainably
after the Syrian Civil War.

text: A high level of productivity for current and future services is a critical
success factor for companies. When the productivity of services is unknown or
incorrect, resources are wasted and opportunities are missed. To respond to this
challenge, a simulation modelfor the prospective description of a complex service
provision was developed in order to support companies to create a robust offering
of services.Focusing on the domain of factory planning, we illustrate howan extended
Stochastic Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem(SRCPSP) can be applied
for developing proposals. The presented validation study confirms that the approach
is capable to calculate and optimize the planning objectives when developing a
service for complex engineering projects

text: "In Germany, there is much academic discourse on and scientific inquiry into
pedagogical issues of science teaching and learning at the school level. Concepts
like ‘Bildung’ (inquiry-based self-formation) or ‘Didaktik’ (instruction-based
reflections on teaching) are almost directly associated with institutions or actors
rooted in pedagogical departments. Unfortunately, those departments rarely focus
on issues of science teaching and learning at the University level – and if they
do so, they most often try to apply conceptions and models borrowed from upper
or post-secondary education. The few research-based institutions that address
specific issues of higher education are commonly fitted out so that they are nowhere
near the impacts of research institutions covering teaching methodology in primary
or secondary education, for example. Yet from an international perspective, the
university as an institution does hold a great potential to improve educational
practice in a systematic, cross-disciplinary and research-based way. Around the
globe, more and more institutions rely on the notion of scholarship in this context:
‘The improvement of learning and teaching is dependent upon the development of
scholarship and research in teaching’ (Prosser & Trigwell, 1999, p. 8). If incorporated
at the heart of tertiary education, scholarship could contribute to develop new
faculty in the German higher-educational sector.\r\n"

text: "In future, advancing digitalization will entail extensive change for businesses.
To date, there are only sporadically implemented examples of Smart Factories and
these are rather technically (specifically information technology) oriented. Phoenix
Contact therefore decided to use a tailor-made approach to implement the digital
transition towards becoming a Smart Factory. With the participation of the senior
management affected, other internal support areas and the works council, an image
of the future for the Smart Factory was developed. Based on the main future processes
the appropriate organizational structure was selected and all participants could
now be trained in the performance of new tasks. In addition, this allows for technological
concepts to be chosen and judiciously incorporated in further stages. In this
paper, the “SmartOrg@Combicon” project will be illustrated as the initial phase
in the course of Smart Factory implementation.\r\n"

text: Development engineers are most valued for their excellence in physical product
development, but on the flipside, project managers face problems when trying to
fit them into effectively running development processes. Because of the advantages
of Lean Management in production (Lean Production), process managers often try
to transfer lean principles directly to development processes, not considering
that major differences exist between well-described production processes and new
product development processes which include much more uncertainty and risk. Nevertheless,
several lean principals are applicable in product development. This paper describes
five lean development insights (LDIs) which were found when optimizing an entire
product realization process. Lean principles have been examined and then translated
to collaboration between product development and tool manufacturing at a globally
operating German family-run company. These LDIs are meant to help project and
process managers, consultants and developers to rethink their ways of organizing
product development. The application of these insights will result in increased
transparency, intensified collaboration, improved processes and quality, shortened
lead times, and also eliminate waste.

text: Catchwords such as “Cyber-Physical-Systems” and “Industry 4.0” describe the
current development of systems with embedded intelligence. These systems can be
characterized by an increasing technical complexity that must be addressed in
the user interface. In this paper we analyze the specific requirements posed by
the interaction with cyber-physical-systems, present a coordinated approach to
these requirements and illustrate our approach with a practical example of an
assistance system for assembly workers in an industrial production environment.

text: This paper presents a formative multi-method evaluation on future gaming systems.
Following a scenario-driven approach, quantitative and qualitative methods are
employed to elicit feedback from different target user populations. Based on the
results of the different evaluation parts, a set of design requirements for future
home entertainment systems is derived. These requirements are then used to guide
the development process of a ubiquitous computing gaming platform. To demonstrate
the usefulness of the gaming platform, a sample application is discussed, which
is described in the last section of this paper.
