abstract = {{Currently, numerous single track railway lines are disused due to economic reasons. One way they could be reactivated for bidirectional on demand traffic is by small cabin-like vehicles, lateral stabilized by a system of control moment gyroscopes and a moveable mass. Regarding such a vehicle, there is currently no reference in comparison with other vehicles and no experimental experience or the like. To ensure the functionality and safety of the vehicle even before its realization, a model-based design is carried out for development, analysis, optimization and testing. This paper is focused on the co-simulation of such a vehicle that is controlled by a longitudinal control. In order to take into account the complex interaction between the longitudinal dynamics and the running gear, the entire system must be considered here including the wheel/rail interaction. Co-simulations are performed considering both the mechanical model of the vehicle and the control of the longitudinal dynamics of the overall system. The simulation results show that functionality and safe operation can be ensured by the vehicle longitudinal controls. As a result, the simulation and the measurement of the real system show a good match. By means of HIL and co-simulations, function tests could be shifted to earlier development stages, in order to accelerate the overall development.}},

abstract = {{Developing AI systems for automatic train operation (ATO) requires developers to have a deep understanding of the human tasks they are trying to replace. This paper fills this gap and translates the regulatory requirements from the context of German railways for the AI developer community. As a result, tasks such as train’s path monitoring for collision prediction, signal detection, door operation, etc. are identified. Based on this analysis, a functionally justified sensor setup with detailed configuration requirements is presented. This setup was also evaluated by a survey within the railway industry. The evaluated sensors include RGB/IR cameras, LIDARs, radars and ultrasonic sensors. Calculations and estimates for the evaluated sensors are presented graphically and included in this paper. However, the ultimate sensor setup is still a subject of research. The results of this paper also address the lack of training and test datasets for railway AI systems. It is proposed to acquire research datasets that will allow the training of domain adaptation algorithms to transform other datasets, thus increasing the number of available datasets. The sensor setup is also recommended for such research datasets.}},

Our research focuses on recent ways of combining energy and data transmission in single contactless transducers, enabling easy installation, maintenance and possible fulfilment of high protection classes. While this approach can typically be solved by combining Wifi and inductive energy transfer, the Wifi aspect is often limited by the available media access and channel occupation. Another issue is the real time capability of Wifi or other wireless transmission protocols like IEEE 802.15.4. While creating a new wireless or contactless standard is beyond the focus of this work, we concentrate on combining existing technologies and their interoperability. abstract = {{In this paper we present an optical measurement system approach for quality analysis of brakes which are used in high-speed trains. The brakes consist of the so called brake discs and pads. In a deceleration process the discs will be heated up to 500°C. The quality measure is based on the fact that the heated brake discs should not generate hot spots inside the brake material. Instead, the brake disc should be heated homogeneously by the deceleration. Therefore, it makes sense to analyze the number of hot spots and their relative gradients to create a quality measure for train brakes. In this contribution we present a new approach for a quality measurement system which is based on an image analysis and classification of infra-red based heat images. Brake images which are represented in pseudo-color are first transformed in a linear grayscale space by a hue-saturation-intensity (HSI) space. This transform is necessary for the following gradient analysis which is based on gray scale gradient filters. Furthermore, different features based on Haralick's measures are generated from the gray scale and gradient images. A following Fuzzy-Pattern-Classifier is used for the classification of good and bad brakes. It has to be pointed out that the classifier returns a score value for each brake which is between 0 and 100% good quality. This fact guarantees that not only good and bad bakes can be distinguished, but also their quality can be labeled. The results show that all critical thermal patterns of train brakes can be sensed and verified.}},

abstract = {{This paper describes an approach for a contactless, inductively coupled resonant energy supply system for multiple, independent endpoints. Typical contactless inductive energy supplies in industrial applications involve a combination of one primary inverter/coil and one secondary coil with a rectifier and a load. The work presented in this paper issues a one-to-many-approach instead, which can be used for creating a contactless automation network, having multiple secondary side loads driven by only one primary coil. The challenge is to run such a system in resonance, as every participant potentially affects the resonant frequency, and therefore the overall system efficiency. The effects of multiple participants on the resonant frequency are modeled, and the theoretical examinations are backed up by measurements run on a rail-based test system.}},

abstract = {{The performance investigation of different Bluetooth modules needs a module independent approach, which can be used in real time and which allows to consider different Bluetooth modules and communication modes. This paper will give a description of a special measurement approach that was developed and implemented. The performance-parameters Bluetooth-Packet-Delay, Bit Error Rate (BER) and Packet Loss Rate (PLR) are evaluated. A series of first investigations was conducted using the implemented measurement approach to show the evaluation possibilities. Two different Bluetooth modules for different packet types and packet sizes were used.}},

abstract = {{This paper deals with a performance evaluation of a Bluetooth based industrial real-time sensor actuator interface for stationary and mobile applications. The investigations were carried out in harsh industrial environments in the presence of parasitic machine emissions, intentional and unintentional interferers. The air paths were obstructed by moving machine parts and daily work traffic. As a result we can conclude, that wireless automation systems based on Bluetooth technology are extremely reliable due to their inherent system features like adaptive frequency hopping at high operating frequencies, error detection and correction. Neither parasitic machine emissions nor other radio systems or transceiver movements can impair the transmission, as long as distances are below 30 m}},
