Etwa 95 % der zu diesem Zwecke aufzuwendenden Energie geht zu Lasten der vor 1985 errichteten Gebäude. Der vorliegende Aufsatz berichtet über die Ergebnisse der durch die Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt geförderten Studie "Energetische Sanierung der Bausubstanz in Riedstadt/Leeheim". Diese hatte zum Ziel, das Einsparpotential an CO2-Emissionen durch energetische Sanierungsmaßnahmen innerhalb der ausgewählten Zielgemeinde zu ermitteln und Wege zur Realisierung dieses Einsparpotentials aufzuzeigen. Die Untersuchung der Frage, warum Energiesparmaßnahmen in vielen Fällen unterbleiben, erfordert eine interdisziplinäre Herangehensweise. Anhand einer in zwei Teilen angelegten schriftlichen Befragung der Bürger konnten u. a. Informationen zu deren persönlichen Lebensumständen, Präferenzen und Wertordnungen eingeholt werden mit dem Ziel, die Möglichkeiten einer Motivierung der Hausbesitzer zu energetischen Sanierungsmaßnahmen zu identifizieren und zu erproben.
