  abstract = {{Currently, cities are confronting a multitude of challenges including climate change, demographic change, urbanization and land subsidence. Resulting flooding, droughts and other disturbances could lead to water shortages, severe interruptions, hydraulic problems or underutilization of water infrastructure systems. One way that cities can become more resilient is by diversifying their water resources and reducing their dependency on central water infrastructures. Water infrastructure systems consisting of decentral or semi-central partial systems would be more resilient because a failure in these systems would only affect a small part of the urban area. Instead of an incremental improvement of the water infrastructure, there is a need for system innovations that will allow an adaptive development to changing conditions and which will ensure that future sustainability challenges are met. However, moving towards more resilient water technologies is seen as controversial for built-up areas. To answer the question if a transformation to a more resilient water infrastructure in built-up areas is feasible (technically and economically), a balancing and assessment of the corresponding effects have been done by way of comparing a “transformation” scenario with a reference scenario “business as usual”. If one takes a long-term period of observation (70 years), the costs balance of the scenarios “reference” and “transformation” both turn out to be on a comparative level. By contrast, the consumption of environmental resources in the scenario “transformation” is almost twice as low as in the “reference”.}},

This work presents a solution for direct conversion of CAN signals for contactless capacitive coupling over an air gap. The coupling distances are short (in the range of less than 1 mm), but can be extended by a supporting rail which contains coupling electrodes and conductors to deliver the signals also over larger distances. A modulation scheme is implemented to maintain the functionality of dominant and recessive bit status. No additional controller is needed; the transceiver module replaces the CAN transceiver typically added to any microcontroller. }},

It will be of particular interest for a CR system to apply predictive modeling in order to forecast the behavior of the coexisting environment. A secondary cognitive user shall use preemptive tuning of its operating parameters following the predictive model. However, a considerable challenge is to generate an accurate model and predict efficiently in order to meet strict time related requirements of industrial applications. Such predictive modeling has already gained some attention but real-time experimental results have never been reported to the best of our knowledge. In this contribution we investigate the performance of a Markov model based CR system using simulative and experimental environments for its application in industrial systems.}},

  abstract = {{In the last years, an ongoing trend of producing stereoscopic movies can be observed. While they hold some advantages like stronger immersion, also side effects like visual fatigue were reported. One of the reasons for this is the vergence-accomodation conflict, which describes the unnatural uncoupling of vergence and accomodation that audiences of stereoscopic films are forced to do. As this conflict only causes symptoms at excessive discrepancies, filmmakers should keep the stereoscopic disparity in their films below a certain level. However, there is no consensus on what level that limit should be, so a general guideline is needed. By investigating the findings of different authors and analysing the disparity values of five stereoscopic feature films, a recommendation to limit the disparity of theatrical films to a value of 3% in negative space and 2% in positive space is given.}},

Fluctuating light regimes simulated regular vertical mixing in lakes with a ratio of euphotic to mixed depth (zeu : zmix) of 1 and 0.5 on a cloudless day. Light fluctuations at zeu : zmix = 1 decreased the growth rates of S. minutulus, N. acicularis, and L. redekei by 18%, 33%, and 29%, respectively, compared to constant light at the same daily light supply. Temperature had no effect on this decrease. Halving zeu : zmix (simulating deep mixing) had the same effect on growth as halving the photoperiod, demonstrating that these factors are cumulative. We introduce a simple empirical factor to adjust growth rates measured under constant light to account for fluctuating light. This factor is independent of temperature and photoperiod, applies over a range of zeu : zmix, and accurately describes present and published growth rates of several species. We show how to account for temporal variability of the light supply at different temperatures and photoperiods when predicting growth rates of phytoplankton.}},

  abstract     = {{Background
A broad spectrum of pathogens is causative for respiratory tract infections, but symptoms are mostly similar. Therefore, the identification of the causative viruses and bacteria is only feasible using multiplex PCR or several monoplex PCR tests in parallel.
Methods
The analytical sensitivity of three multiplex PCR assays, RespiFinder-19, RespiFinder-SMART-22 and xTAG-Respiratory-Virus-Panel-Fast-Assay (RVP), were compared to monoplex real-time PCR with quantified standardized control material. All assays include the most common respiratory pathogens.
Results
To compare the analytical sensitivity of the multiplex assays, samples were inoculated with 13 different quantified viruses in the range of 101 to 105 copies/ml. Concordant results were received for rhinovirus, whereas the RVP detected influenzavirus, RSV and hMPV more frequently in low concentrations. The RespiFinder-19 and the RespiFinder-SMART-22 showed a higher analytical sensitivity for adenoviruses and coronaviruses, whereas the RVP was incapable to detect adenovirus and coronavirus in concentrations of 104 copies/ml. The RespiFinder-19 and RespiFinder-SMART-22A did not detect influenzaviruses (104 copies/ml) and RSV (103 copies/ml). The detection of all 13 viruses in one sample was only achieved using monoplex PCR. To analyze possible competitive amplification reactions between the different viruses, samples were further inoculated with only 4 different viruses in one sample. Compared to the detection of 13 viruses in parallel, only a few differences were found.
The incidence of respiratory viruses was compared in tracheal secretion (TS) samples (n = 100) of mechanically ventilated patients in winter (n = 50) and summer (n = 50). In winter, respiratory viruses were detected in 32 TS samples (64%) by RespiFinder-19, whereas the detection rate with RVP was only 22%. The most frequent viruses were adenovirus (32%) and PIV-2 (20%). Multiple infections were detected in 16 TS samples (32%) by RespiFinder-19. Fewer infections were found in summer (RespiFinder-19: 20%; RVP: 6%). All positive results were verified using monoplex PCR.
Conclusions
Multiplex PCR tests have a broad spectrum of pathogens to test at a time. Analysis of multiple inoculated samples revealed a different focus of the detected virus types by the three assays. Analysis of clinical samples showed a high concordance of detected viruses by the RespiFinder-19 compared to monoplex tests.}},
