abstract = {{Learning retention is improved when in addition to the learning methods of “classical” instruction (auditory, visual), further learning channels (discussing, doing) are addressed. In view of this, the coursework for the degree in Industrial Engineering has been designed to include teaching formats with a high level of interaction among students. In keeping with this teaching approach, an additional business game was developed for the Production Systems module. This game provides knowledge about the structure of the logistical workflow within production in general and the Kanban method in particular. The first step in designing the game was to define learning objectives. Based on these, a basic concept was derived. This basic concept applies the guideline for the introduction of Kanban by Geiger et al. (2011). The detailed concept was then worked out over the course of further development, leading to the design of an assembly line for Lego cars as well as the design of tasks on the subject of Kanban capability and for calculating the number of Kanban. The business game illustrates, inter alia, the difference between the Kanban method and a conventional production planning and control system. The simulation has been tested in a university course, evaluated and, in response to the positive feedback from students, integrated in the course instruction. The conclusion of the paper provides an outlook on the further development of instruction in the context of the digitization and networking of production.}},

abstract = {{Increasingly, production processes are enabled and controlled by Information Technology (IT), a development being also referred to as “Industry 4.0”. IT thereby contributes to flexible and adaptive production processes, and in this sense factories become “smart factories”. In line with this, IT also more and more supports human workers via various assistance systems. This support aims to both support workers to better execute their tasks and to reduce the effort and time required when working. However, due to the large spectrum of assistance systems, it is hard to acquire an overview and to select an adequate system for a smart factory based on meaningful criteria. We therefore synthesize a set of comparison criteria into a consistent framework and demonstrate the application of our framework by classifying three examples.}},

abstract = {{The selection of suitable display technologies for industrial augmented reality (AR) applications is becoming increasingly relevant as such applications move from the proof-of-concept to the application stage. To support project managers, designers and developers in the critical selection process we have developed a checklist of important aspects and related evaluation hints that helps to speed up and improve the selection process. The checklist presented in this paper was designed to be useful for both researchers and practitioners. It combines pertinent information from relevant standards like ISO 9241-210 with results from current research literature and experience from several AR projects in industrial contexts. It can be applied both in collaboration with AR experts, where it helps to prepare relevant information for the collaboration and thus streamlines the process, or stand-alone, as a guideline for the evaluation of different options by a design team. }},

Although comprehensive surveys have taken account of the state of the art, the design space of industrial augmented and virtual reality keeps diversifying. We propose a visual approach towards assessing this space and present an interactive, community-driven tool which supports interested researchers and practitioners in gaining an overview of the aforementioned design space. Using such a framework we collected and classified relevant publications in terms of application areas and technology platforms. This tool shall facilitate initial research activities as well as the identification of research opportunities. Thus, we lay the groundwork, forthcoming workshops and discussions shall address the refinement.}},

By using depth cameras, the system can track the hands of the user and makes the user aware of wrong picking actions or errors in the assembly process. The system automatically adapts the digital projection-based overlay according to the current work situation. The main research contribution of our work is the presentation of a novel hand-tracking algorithm. In addition, we present the results of an user study of the system that shows the challenges and opportunities of our system and the hand-tracking algorithm in particular. We assume that our results will inform the future design of assistive systems in manual assembly.}},

In the first part, detailed requirements for such a network are given from the viewpoint of a customer. Based on those, different concepts for AC/DC conversion and energy management are discussed. As far as AC/DC conversion is concerned, the advantages and drawbacks of several rectifier topologies are listed, as they have a significant impact on the system behavior and EMC properties. An intelligent energy management can improve the energy efficiency and reduce downtimes of a plant, which are major requirements from a customer's viewpoint.}},

The latter consists of two separate devices and is able to transmit up to 240W of electrical power using inductive resonant coupling. The optical system consists of two self-developed light-guiding structures and a short-reach free-space optical path. As source and sink of the optical system a light-emitting diode resp. a photodiode with a centroid wavelength of 850nm are used. The optical system is positioned within the CPTS; it transmits the PROFIBUS protocol. Due to the restrictions given by the applications areas of the CPTS, such as air gap up to 5°mm, misalignment up to 2 mm, tilting up to 5 and rotation angle up to 360°, different kinds of light-guiding structures are analyzed by simulation. Based on these results the most promising structures are selected and manufactured. Hereafter the attenuation and the near field characteristic of one light-guiding structure is analyzed. After this, the attenuation based on misalignment, variation of air gap, tilting and rotation between two light-guiding structures are analyzed by measurement. To check whether the requirements of the PROFIBUS has been satisfied by the complete data transmission system, the transient transmission behavior of the system was analyzed by a pseudo-random bit stream. In this paper the most important results of the design, the simulation and the measurement are explained. The presented results demonstrate the ability to design of such systems based on simulations and to evaluate the suitability of various geometries for present and future works.}},

abstract = {{Since 2000 (in the beginning 21st Century) climate change and globalisation have influenced the actual
world and all societies tremendously and the have also affected the way we are building. Safety and
security requirements are increasing and are consequently influencing the design of the building envelope.
‘Resilience’ describes the function and ability of buildings and their facades to to recover from or adjust
easily to change. “Resilience” addresses the impacts of climate change and globalization and of safety and security requirements on the building envelope. The first edition of the Detmold Conference Week 2017 connects education and research, scholars and professionals in different events and formats: a master workshop and two conferences will discuss the approaches of resilient design and construction for buildings and facades.
The direct way to specific stresses forced by water, wind, fire, explosion or earthquake but also in an indirect way seen as a general ability of adaptivity to different changes will be discussed at the facade2017 conference on Friday 24th November 2017 from different academic and professional perspectives.
The 1st RMB Conference on Thursday 23rd November 2017 is organized by the consortium of the ERASMUS+
project “RMB: Reuse of Modernist Buildings. Design Tools for Sustainable Transformations”. There representatives of the consortium as well as international guest will debate in particular issues of Resilience of Modern Movement Buildings and Neighborhoods. During the conference we will discuss new design and educational concepts for the reuse of modern postwar buildings for housing and other purposes – resilience through reuse. Scholars, PhD and master students present and discuss selected papers and posters.}},

abstract = {{Generation Y marks the transition between a world with and without fully implemented Internet: A new kind of virtual space is formed and is impacting the way we live in this world, the way we perceive it, and the way we interact with it. Mobile devices, such as phones, build a new form of electronic technology type we interact with. This thesis investigates how this new form of relation can give insights to the way we are situated in this world with all its complexities and levels.
In a case study, the author focuses on the relationship with mobile devices in the context of memory (making and recalling), materiality (haptic and metaphoric) and the human body itself (perception and sensory system). By developing a practice and contextualizing it in terms of space-theoretical and phenomenological concepts, this thesis aims to start a discourse on our human, (un-)conscious relation to mobile devices in place and time. Is it time for an imperfect, humane view towards the era of information from a Millennial perspective?}},

abstract = {{Data dictionaries provide structural meta-information about data definitions in health information technology (HIT) systems. In this regard, reusing healthcare data for secondary purposes offers several advantages (e.g. reduce documentation times or increased data quality). Prerequisites for data reuse are its quality, availability and identical meaning of data. In diverse projects, research data warehouses serve as core components between heterogeneous clinical databases and various research applications. Given the complexity (high number of data elements) and dynamics (regular updates) of electronic health record (EHR) data structures, we propose a clinical metadata warehouse (CMDW) based on a metadata registry standard. Metadata of two large hospitals were automatically inserted into two CMDWs containing 16,230 forms and 310,519 data elements. Automatic updates of metadata are possible as well as semantic annotations. A CMDW allows metadata discovery, data quality assessment and similarity analyses. Common data models for distributed research networks can be established based on similarity analyses.}},

abstract = {{Patient care for those affected by chronic pruritus is remarkably complex due to its high prevalence and multifactorial nature. It requires a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s medical history, extensive diagnostic procedures, and long treatment duration, including management of possible accompanying disorders such as sleep disturbances and mental distress. It is important to prioritize patient’s needs when developing a therapeutic treatment plan. Standardized questionnaires and scales should be used to better analyze the patient history, quality of life, symptom intensity, and course of treatment. These can be distributed via digital platforms, allowing for more effective communication between the treating agents and gathering of large volumes of data in central databases. In today’s health care system, it is essential for physicians with itch-related specializations and specialized itch centers to cooperate. It is thus crucial to focus efforts on the further development of specialized treatment centers and training courses for medical practitioners. There are, however, various regulatory and economic barriers to overcome in the modern health care system before patients with chronic pruritus can be offered the best possible care. Accordingly, health care authorities should be made aware of the difficulties associated with the management of chronic pruritus and of the high individual and societal burden it represents.}},

@misc{11743,
abstract = {{Background: The term prurigo has been used for many decades in dermatology without clear definition, and currently used terminology of prurigo is inconsistent and confusing. Especially, itch-related prurigo remains unexplored regarding the epidemiology, clinical profile, natural course, underlying causes, available treatments and economic burden, although burdensome and difficult to treat.

Objective: To address these issues, the multicentre European Prurigo Project (EPP) was designed to increase knowledge on chronic prurigo (CPG). In the first step, European experts of the EADV Task Force Pruritus (TFP) aimed to achieve a consensus on the definition, classification and terminology of CPG. Additionally, procedures of the cross-sectional EPP were discussed and agreed upon.

Methods: Discussions and surveys between members of the TFP served as basis for a consensus conference. Using the Delphi method, consensus was defined as an agreement ≥75% among the present members.

Results: Twenty-four members of the TFP participated in the consensus conference. Experts consented that CPG should be used as an umbrella term for the range of clinical manifestations (e.g. papular, nodular, plaque or umbilicated types). CPG is considered a distinct disease defined by the presence of chronic pruritus for ≥6 weeks, history and/or signs of repeated scratching and multiple localized/generalized pruriginous skin lesions (whitish or pink papules, nodules and/or plaques). CPG occurs due to a neuronal sensitization to itch and the development of an itch-scratch cycle.

Conclusion: This new definition and terminology of CPG should be implemented in dermatology to harmonize communication in the clinical routine, clinical trials and scientific literature. Acute/subacute forms of prurigo are separated entities, which need to be differentiated from CPG and will be discussed in a next step. In the near future, the cross-sectional EPP will provide relevant clinical data on various aspects of CPG leading to new directions in the scientific investigation of CGP.}},

abstract = {{ Science Studies (German: "Wissenschaftsforschung") is one of the core modules of a new master's degree program "Higher Education" at the Hamburg Center for University Teaching and Learning (HUL).
Subject matters of this executive program cover a broad field of higher educational issues:
One of the areas of reflection dealt with in this program are the epistemological premises and the underpinning assumptions of higher educational research. This philosophy of science view on teaching and learning leads towards a confrontation with methodological questions on research designs in this area. The discussion focuses in more detail onto the role of communication in educational practice and its research ("science rhetorics").

The intention of this module is to go beyond simple answers by focusing on the reflective nature of researchers investigating their own field ("scholarship of teaching and learning"). It addresses questions of higher educational research from a higher educational research perspective and therefore may be identified with the concept of "second order research": We hence aim at providing a new way of understanding higher educational research by following a second-order cybernetics and systems theories agenda referring to von Foerster, Maturana & Varela, von Glasersfeld and Luhmann.
We developed the master's program by conducting a design-based research methodology. Its curriculum follows the results of this research process and its conceptual design presented in this contribution therefore is to be classified as "research-based" rather than "based on experience".}},
