abstract = {{Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies have not only revolutionized product development and design by enabling rapid prototyping. They also gained influence on production in general, mainly because of their direct manufacturing capabilities. In the context of Industry 4.0 and the related process automation, innovative and advanced production technologies with completely new approaches are required [1]. AM technologies contribute to this with their advantages like freedom of design, cost efficient product individualization, and functional integration. On the other hand, AM still shows shortcomings in exploiting its full potential. Most current AM technologies are only applicable for manufacturing with singular materials. In particular, opportunities for processing of optically or electrically conductive materials are still missing. This paper contributes to the advancement of additive manufacturing of two different material variants or even two completely different materials. A special focus is laid on producing a part that combines mechanical with optical or electrical functionalities in one process step. The ultimate goal is to integrate sensor functionalities into an AM object, e.g. strain gauges. Extrusion processes, predominantly Fused Layer Modeling (FLM), are preferred in this research due to their mechanically simple machine setup in which additional functional materials can be adapted easily to the build process. In a first step, the general manufacturability has been evaluated. Thereafter, the resulting optical transmission properties have been analyzed. Especially the attenuation has to remain below a threshold value to accomplish a minimum signal-to-noise ratio.}},

To stay competitive, the manufacturing companies of these smart products need to optimize their internal lifecycleprocesses. Mainly, they have to converge the software and hardware lifecycleprocesses. However, even if this strategic necessity has been recognized, manufacturing companies struggle to develop and implement a roadmap of such convergence.Starting point for the realization of harmonized lifecycle processes are processmodels describing process activities and the underlying data models. This research addresses the latter one and aims to create a generic lifecycle data model. The research team created and evaluated such data model referring to development artifacts such as requirements, parts or test cases and to lifecycle artifacts such as revisions, versions and baselines. The generic lifecycle management model was evaluated by a practical development of a smart product. By this, the research provides a valuable result to maintain and increase the competitiveness of manufacturing companies.}},

Nevertheless, their applicability is not yet completely proven, especially in terms of surface finishing. The aim of this research work is to create perfect mold inserts by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and to optimize surface quality. Therefore a process is developed to reduce the effort of surface quality optimization including a high flexibility in design. The tested process shows that simple and affordable methods can lead to usable molds with only minor restrictions in terms of appearance. Due to the initial reduction of layer thicknesses and distinct settings of laser melting parameters, the surface smoothness is significantly enhanced during the SLM building process. Subsequently blasting, manual grinding, as well as polishing operations, enable a selective smoothening of the surface up to a polished finish. As a result, the built tool parts can be used instantly for injection molding.}},

abstract = {{Due to a high level of competition in automotive industry, it is essentially important for automotive companies to develop innovative strategies and technologies in production and logistics. Postponement of production difference, i.e., customer individualized demand has been considered as an innovative strategy and more or less implemented in the production process, mostly before and during the final assembly. This paper proposed the concept of postponing the individualization of some components after the assembly. The idea is to use the idle times especially during the distribution process when vehicles are accumulated to generate big transportation batches or the follow-up transport does not start immediately. The individualization is carried out in specially realized workshops. Objectives of the approach are to reduce variations in the manufacturing, to shorten delivery times and to give consumers the ability to reorder individual components shortly before delivery. This kind of postponement of individualization induces the requirement of redesigning the logistics network, which means the selection of workshop locations and the new selection of the suppliers for the individualized components. To reach this aim, a software tool has been developed. In the tool, the data required in the logistics network such as suppliers and workshop potential locations are managed in a MySQL database and the optimization of the network is achieved by the especiallydeveloped non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). The design and development of the solution individuals and the fitness functions, which are the most important elements of a genetic algorithm, are based on the mathematical model of the logistics network design with product late individualization. Different scenarios are considered and generated to examine the applicability of the methodology in automotive practice. The optimization model and the heuristics of genetic algorithm are validated through the Pareto solutions for different scenarios.}},

abstract = {{Yugoslavian Modernist Architecture, although part of a larger cultural phenomenon, received hardly any international attention, since there are only a few internationally published studies about it. Nevertheless, Modernist Architecture of the Inter-war Yugoslavia (Kingdom of Yugoslavia), and specially Modernist Architecture of the Post-war Yugoslavia (Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia under the "reign" of Tito), represents the most important architectural heritage of the 20th century in former Yugoslavian countries. Belgrade, as the capital city of both newly founded Yugoslavia(s), experienced an immediate economic, political and cultural expansion after the both wars, as well as a large population increase. The construction of sufficient and appropriate new housing was a major undertaking in both periods (1919-1940 and 1948-1980), however conceived and realized with deeply diverging views. The transition from villas and modest apartment buildings, as main housing typologies in the Inter-war period, to the mass housing of the Post-war period, was not only a result of the different socio-political context of the two Yugoslavia(s), but also the country's industrialization, modernization and technological development. Through the classification of Modernist housing buildings in Belgrade, this paper will investigate on relations between the transformations of the main housing typologies executed under different socio-political contexts on the one side, and development of building technologies, construction systems and materials applied on those buildings on the other side. The paper wants to shed light on the Yugoslavian Modernist Architecture in order to increase the international awareness on its architectural and heritage values. The aim is an integrated re-evaluation of the buildings, presentation of their current condition and potentials for future (re)use with a specific focus on building envelopes and construction.}},

abstract = {{This paper presents a bidirectional optical data transmission system as an enhancement of a contactless power transmission system (CPTS). The latter consists of two separate devices and is able to transmit up to 240W of electrical power using inductive resonant coupling. The optical system consists of two self-developed light-guiding structures and a short-reach free-space optical path. As source and sink of the optical system a light-emitting diode resp. a photodiode with a centroid wavelength of 850nm are used. The optical system is positioned within the CPTS; it transmits the PROFIBUS protocol. Due to the restrictions given by the applications areas of the CPTS, such as air gap up to 5°mm, misalignment up to 2 mm, tilting up to 5 and rotation angle up to 360°, different kinds of light-guiding structures are analyzed by simulation. Based on these results the most promising structures are selected and manufactured. Hereafter the attenuation and the near field characteristic of one light-guiding structure is analyzed. After this, the attenuation based on misalignment, variation of air gap, tilting and rotation between two light-guiding structures are analyzed by measurement. To check whether the requirements of the PROFIBUS has been satisfied by the complete data transmission system, the transient transmission behavior of the system was analyzed by a pseudo-random bit stream. In this paper the most important results of the design, the simulation and the measurement are explained. The presented results demonstrate the ability to design of such systems based on simulations and to evaluate the suitability of various geometries for present and future works.}},

Auf empirischen Untersuchungen basierend, wird eine alternative Berechnung der gesamten Störquellenleistung vorgeschlagen, die unmittelbar Auswirkung auf das Signal-Rausch-Verhältnis (SNR) und die maximal verfügbare Kanalkapazität hat. abstract = {{ Science Studies (German: "Wissenschaftsforschung") is one of the core modules of a new master's degree program "Higher Education" at the Hamburg Center for University Teaching and Learning (HUL).
Subject matters of this executive program cover a broad field of higher educational issues:
One of the areas of reflection dealt with in this program are the epistemological premises and the underpinning assumptions of higher educational research. This philosophy of science view on teaching and learning leads towards a confrontation with methodological questions on research designs in this area. The discussion focuses in more detail onto the role of communication in educational practice and its research ("science rhetorics").

The intention of this module is to go beyond simple answers by focusing on the reflective nature of researchers investigating their own field ("scholarship of teaching and learning"). It addresses questions of higher educational research from a higher educational research perspective and therefore may be identified with the concept of "second order research": We hence aim at providing a new way of understanding higher educational research by following a second-order cybernetics and systems theories agenda referring to von Foerster, Maturana & Varela, von Glasersfeld and Luhmann.
We developed the master's program by conducting a design-based research methodology. Its curriculum follows the results of this research process and its conceptual design presented in this contribution therefore is to be classified as "research-based" rather than "based on experience".}},

Gleichzeitig werden aber auch die Grenzen partizipatorischer Prozesse beschrieben und insbesondere unter Gerechtigkeitsaspekten analysiert. abstract = {{Phytoplankton growth depends not only on mean intensity but also on the dynamics of the light supply. In surface mixed layers, phytoplankton may rapidly move between strong light and almost darkness. The nonlinear light‐dependency of growth may differ between constant and fluctuating light because of the different frequency distribution of light and/or acclimation processes. The present study compares for the first time light‐dependency of photosynthesis and growth of phytoplankton communities in situ under defined mixing conditions and at fixed depths. Maximum growth rates per day were not significantly different, but the growth efficiency was much higher under constant light than under fluctuating light of sub‐saturating daily irradiance. Phytoplankton incubated under fluctuating light needed about three times higher mean daily irradiances to balance photosynthesis and losses than under constant light. The difference in growth efficiency was mostly caused by the different frequency distribution of underwater light, as was estimated by a photosynthesis model of sufficient temporal resolution. The present study indicates a considerable overestimation of phytoplankton growth at sub‐saturating light in well‐mixed water layers by the common growth measurements under constant light. This implies an underestimation of the compensation light intensities and respective overestimations of the critical mixing depths.}},

abstract = {{The hydrology of the lake-rich Tibetan Plateau is important for the global climate, yet little is known about the thermal regime of Tibetan lakes due to scant data. We (i) investigated the characteristic seasonal temperature patterns and recent trends in the thermal and stratification regimes of lakes on the Tibetan Plateau and (ii) tested the performance of the one-dimensional lake parameterization scheme FLake for the Tibetan lake system. For this purpose, we combined 3 years of in situ lake temperature measurements, several decades of satellite observations, and the global reanalysis data. We chose the two largest freshwater Tibetan lakes, Ngoring and Gyaring, as study sites. The lake model FLake faithfully reproduced the specific features of the high-altitude lakes and was subsequently applied to reconstruct the vertically resolved heat transport in both lakes during the last 4 decades. The model suggested that Ngoring and Gyaring were ice-covered for about 6 months and stratified in summer for about 4 months per year with a short spring overturn and a longer autumn overturn. In summer the surface mixed boundary layer extended to 6–8 m of depth and was about 20 % shallower in the more turbid Gyaring. The thermal regime of the transparent Ngoring responded more strongly to atmospheric forcing than Gyaring, where the higher turbidity damped the response. According to the reanalysis data, air temperatures and humidity have increased, whereas solar radiation has decreased, since the 1970s. Surprisingly, the modeled mean lake temperatures did not change, nor did the phenology of the ice cover or stratification. Lake surface temperatures in summer increased only marginally. The reason is that the increase in air temperature was offset by the decrease in radiation, probably due to increasing humidity. This study demonstrates that air temperature trends are not directly coupled to lake temperatures and underscores the importance of shortwave radiation for the thermal regime of high-altitude lakes.}},

abstract = {{Climate forecasts project a global increase in extreme weather events, but information on the consequences for ecosystems is scarce. Of particular significance for lakes are severe storms that can influence biogeochemical processes and biological communities by disrupting the vertical thermal structure during periods of stratification. An exceptional storm passing over northern Germany in July 2011 provided an opportunity to assess the consequences and underlying mechanisms of such extreme events on the interplay between the physics and ecological characteristics of a deep, nutrient-poor lake. Wind speeds were among the most extreme on record. A suite of variables measured throughout the event consistently indicates that a cascade of processes pushed the clear-water lake into an exceptionally turbid state. Specifically, thermocline deepening by the storm-entrained cyanobacteria of a deep chlorophyll maximum located at about 8 m depth into the surface mixed layer. Released from light limitation, intense photosynthesis of the cyanobacteria boosted primary production, increased algal biomass, raised the pH and thus induced massive calcite precipitation to a level never observed within three decades of lake monitoring. As a consequence, water transparency dropped from 6.5 to 2.1 m, the minimum on record for 40 years, and the euphotic zone shrank by about 8 m for several weeks. These results show that cyanobacterial blooms not only are promoted by climate warming, but can also be triggered by extreme storms. Clear-water lakes developing a deep chlorophyll maximum appear to be particularly at risk in the future, if such events become more intense or frequent.}},

abstract = {{Properly handled fish is usually marketed as “fresh fish” until day 10 after fishing. About 40% of the total fishery that is used for direct human consumption is marketed in fresh form stored at temperatures up to +2 °C. Currently, there are no validated methods available for controlling the recommended period of storage. Apart from being a potential source for food fraud, spoiled fish represents a major source of foodborne illnesses and intoxications.
In this study, a rapid MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry based screening method was developed using the vitreous fluid of fish eyes as specimen for the examination of different days of storage. The vitreous fluid was collected from n = 100 freshly fished brown trouts at day 0, 3, 7, 9, and 11 post mortem (n = 20 brown trouts each day of examination). The samples were immediately measured by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry in linear positive mode (mass range m/z 2000–20,000 Da). For quality assurance the experiment was repeated with a set of brown trouts (n = 100) originating from the same fish farm and with brown trouts (n = 100) originating from a different fish farm. For specificity testing rainbow trouts (n = 10) were examined accordingly. All obtained mass spectra were processed by means of MALDI Biotyper OC 3.1 and ClinProTools 3.0 software.
The MALDI Biotyper approach showed limited applicability for the identification of the time of storage. However, it was suitable to reliably discriminate between the closely related species brown and rainbow trout. Processing by ClinProTools revealed four crucial mass peaks (m/z 2594 Da, m/z 4857 Da, m/z 4879 Da, m/z 4899 Da) which enabled a reliable differentiation between day 0 and 3, 7, 9, 11 (rate of correct identification > 90%) as well as the differentiation between day 3 and 7, 9, 11 (rate of correct identification > 72%). However, this approach showed limited applicability within the end of the tested period of storage when comparing between day 7, 9, or 11.}},

abstract = {{The consumption of edible insects (entomophagy) will gain greater significance facing the increasing global population, which is suggested to reach 9 billion people in 2050 (FAO., 2009). Due to their high amount of proteins, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals insects represent a valuable source of essential nutrients.
While the consumption of insects is very common in many countries of Africa and Asia, there is a far smaller acceptance for entomophagy in Western cultures. Though, products such as noodles or burger paddies made from insect meal have a better compliance and can already be purchased in some countries of the European Union. This processing step however involves the risk of adulteration, because there is no more possibility to authenticate the insects once they are ground.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether edible insects could be measured and distinguished by MALDI-TOF MS (matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry). Therefore, different kinds of edible insects (buffalo worms, mealworms, crickets and grasshoppers) were purchased via online shops and ground subsequently. The insect powder was extracted by vigorously shaking in diluted formic acid and measured by MALDI-TOF MS. The measurement provided reproducible as well as specific mass spectra and enabled a precise differentiation of the different species.}},
