abstract = {{Well-designed interactive visualizations help users gaining insights into an organization's data and, finally, making decisions. In the Business Intelligence (BI) context, the most popular visualization approach is dashboards, which combine multiple visual components, such as charts, on a single view. Well-founded decisions require the collaboration of several analysts, such as domain experts, line-of-business managers, or key suppliers. For face-to-face collaboration settings, multi-display environments and smart meeting rooms have improved. In the BI context, support for boardrooms is being discussed for this setting. In this paper, we propose annotation dashboards, based on a multitouch and multiuser interaction approach, which are integrated in a multi-display environment constituting a BI digital boardroom. In addition, means of semantic navigation help business users to easily get insights into business context information.}},

@misc{7851,
abstract = {{Most of today’s technical parts and components are made of monolithic materials. These mono-material components produced in established production processes reach their limits due to their respective material characteristics. Thus, a significant increase in production quality and efficiency can only be achieved by combining different materials in one part. Bulk forming of previously joined semi-finished products to net shape hybrid components that consist of two different materials is a promising method to produce parts with locally optimized characteristics. This new production process chain offers a number of advantages compared to conventional manufacturing technologies. Examples are the production of specific load-adapted forged parts with a high level of material utilization and an impact on the joining zone caused by the following forming process. This paper describes the production process of serially arranged hybrid steel parts, produced by combining a laser welding process with a subsequent cross wedge rolling process. The presented results are only a first approach in order to get first insights in the forming behaviour of laser welded and cross wedge rolled parts. The investigated material combination is C22 (1.0402) and 20MnCr5 (1.7147). This innovative process chain enables the production of hybrid parts. To evaluate the developed process chain, the weld and the joining zone is analysed before and after cross wedge rolling. Main results are that the joining process using laser welding enables a strong bonding between the two materials with a higher hardness in the joining zone than for the individual materials. After the forming process, the bonding of the joining zone is still present, while the hardness decreased but remains higher than of the materials themselves.}},

Mobile devices, such as phones, build a new form of electronic technology type we interact with. This thesis investigates how this new form of relation can give insights to the way we are situated in this world with all its complexities and levels.
In a case study, the author focuses on the relationship with mobile devices in the context of memory (making and recalling), materiality (haptic and metaphoric) and the human body itself (perception and sensory system). By developing a practice and contextualizing it in terms of space-theoretical and phenomenological concepts, this thesis aims to start a discourse on our human, (un-)conscious relation to mobile devices in place and time. Is it time for an imperfect, humane view towards the era of information from a Millennial perspective?}},

In this regard, reusing healthcare data for secondary purposes offers several advantages (e.g. reduce documentation times or increased data quality). Prerequisites for data reuse are its quality, availability and identical meaning of data. In diverse projects, research data warehouses serve as core components between heterogeneous clinical databases and various research applications. Given the complexity (high number of data elements) and dynamics (regular updates) of electronic health record (EHR) data structures, we propose a clinical metadata warehouse (CMDW) based on a metadata registry standard. Metadata of two large hospitals were automatically inserted into two CMDWs containing 16,230 forms and 310,519 data elements. Automatic updates of metadata are possible as well as semantic annotations. A CMDW allows metadata discovery, data quality assessment and similarity analyses. Common data models for distributed research networks can be established based on similarity analyses.}},

abstract = {{Patient care for those affected by chronic pruritus is remarkably complex due to its high prevalence and multifactorial nature. It requires a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s medical history, extensive diagnostic procedures, and long treatment duration, including management of possible accompanying disorders such as sleep disturbances and mental distress. It is important to prioritize patient’s needs when developing a therapeutic treatment plan. Standardized questionnaires and scales should be used to better analyze the patient history, quality of life, symptom intensity, and course of treatment. These can be distributed via digital platforms, allowing for more effective communication between the treating agents and gathering of large volumes of data in central databases. In today’s health care system, it is essential for physicians with itch-related specializations and specialized itch centers to cooperate. It is thus crucial to focus efforts on the further development of specialized treatment centers and training courses for medical practitioners. There are, however, various regulatory and economic barriers to overcome in the modern health care system before patients with chronic pruritus can be offered the best possible care. Accordingly, health care authorities should be made aware of the difficulties associated with the management of chronic pruritus and of the high individual and societal burden it represents.}},

@misc{11743,
abstract = {{Background: The term prurigo has been used for many decades in dermatology without clear definition, and currently used terminology of prurigo is inconsistent and confusing. Especially, itch-related prurigo remains unexplored regarding the epidemiology, clinical profile, natural course, underlying causes, available treatments and economic burden, although burdensome and difficult to treat.

Objective: To address these issues, the multicentre European Prurigo Project (EPP) was designed to increase knowledge on chronic prurigo (CPG). In the first step, European experts of the EADV Task Force Pruritus (TFP) aimed to achieve a consensus on the definition, classification and terminology of CPG. Additionally, procedures of the cross-sectional EPP were discussed and agreed upon.

Methods: Discussions and surveys between members of the TFP served as basis for a consensus conference. Using the Delphi method, consensus was defined as an agreement ≥75% among the present members.

Results: Twenty-four members of the TFP participated in the consensus conference. Experts consented that CPG should be used as an umbrella term for the range of clinical manifestations (e.g. papular, nodular, plaque or umbilicated types). CPG is considered a distinct disease defined by the presence of chronic pruritus for ≥6 weeks, history and/or signs of repeated scratching and multiple localized/generalized pruriginous skin lesions (whitish or pink papules, nodules and/or plaques). CPG occurs due to a neuronal sensitization to itch and the development of an itch-scratch cycle.

Conclusion: This new definition and terminology of CPG should be implemented in dermatology to harmonize communication in the clinical routine, clinical trials and scientific literature. Acute/subacute forms of prurigo are separated entities, which need to be differentiated from CPG and will be discussed in a next step. In the near future, the cross-sectional EPP will provide relevant clinical data on various aspects of CPG leading to new directions in the scientific investigation of CGP.}},

The present study compares for the first time light‐dependency of photosynthesis and growth of phytoplankton communities in situ under defined mixing conditions and at fixed depths. Maximum growth rates per day were not significantly different, but the growth efficiency was much higher under constant light than under fluctuating light of sub‐saturating daily irradiance. Phytoplankton incubated under fluctuating light needed about three times higher mean daily irradiances to balance photosynthesis and losses than under constant light. The difference in growth efficiency was mostly caused by the different frequency distribution of underwater light, as was estimated by a photosynthesis model of sufficient temporal resolution. The present study indicates a considerable overestimation of phytoplankton growth at sub‐saturating light in well‐mixed water layers by the common growth measurements under constant light. This implies an underestimation of the compensation light intensities and respective overestimations of the critical mixing depths.}},

abstract = {{The hydrology of the lake-rich Tibetan Plateau is important for the global climate, yet little is known about the thermal regime of Tibetan lakes due to scant data. We (i) investigated the characteristic seasonal temperature patterns and recent trends in the thermal and stratification regimes of lakes on the Tibetan Plateau and (ii) tested the performance of the one-dimensional lake parameterization scheme FLake for the Tibetan lake system. For this purpose, we combined 3 years of in situ lake temperature measurements, several decades of satellite observations, and the global reanalysis data. We chose the two largest freshwater Tibetan lakes, Ngoring and Gyaring, as study sites. The lake model FLake faithfully reproduced the specific features of the high-altitude lakes and was subsequently applied to reconstruct the vertically resolved heat transport in both lakes during the last 4 decades. The model suggested that Ngoring and Gyaring were ice-covered for about 6 months and stratified in summer for about 4 months per year with a short spring overturn and a longer autumn overturn. In summer the surface mixed boundary layer extended to 6–8 m of depth and was about 20 % shallower in the more turbid Gyaring. The thermal regime of the transparent Ngoring responded more strongly to atmospheric forcing than Gyaring, where the higher turbidity damped the response. According to the reanalysis data, air temperatures and humidity have increased, whereas solar radiation has decreased, since the 1970s. Surprisingly, the modeled mean lake temperatures did not change, nor did the phenology of the ice cover or stratification. Lake surface temperatures in summer increased only marginally. The reason is that the increase in air temperature was offset by the decrease in radiation, probably due to increasing humidity. This study demonstrates that air temperature trends are not directly coupled to lake temperatures and underscores the importance of shortwave radiation for the thermal regime of high-altitude lakes.}},

abstract = {{Climate forecasts project a global increase in extreme weather events, but information on the consequences for ecosystems is scarce. Of particular significance for lakes are severe storms that can influence biogeochemical processes and biological communities by disrupting the vertical thermal structure during periods of stratification. An exceptional storm passing over northern Germany in July 2011 provided an opportunity to assess the consequences and underlying mechanisms of such extreme events on the interplay between the physics and ecological characteristics of a deep, nutrient-poor lake. Wind speeds were among the most extreme on record. A suite of variables measured throughout the event consistently indicates that a cascade of processes pushed the clear-water lake into an exceptionally turbid state. Specifically, thermocline deepening by the storm-entrained cyanobacteria of a deep chlorophyll maximum located at about 8 m depth into the surface mixed layer. Released from light limitation, intense photosynthesis of the cyanobacteria boosted primary production, increased algal biomass, raised the pH and thus induced massive calcite precipitation to a level never observed within three decades of lake monitoring. As a consequence, water transparency dropped from 6.5 to 2.1 m, the minimum on record for 40 years, and the euphotic zone shrank by about 8 m for several weeks. These results show that cyanobacterial blooms not only are promoted by climate warming, but can also be triggered by extreme storms. Clear-water lakes developing a deep chlorophyll maximum appear to be particularly at risk in the future, if such events become more intense or frequent.}},

abstract = {{The Old Belgrade Fairground, a great example of the Early Modernism in Belgrade, underlined the modernization and Europeanization of the capital city of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The Fairground's construction in 1937 on the bare terrain of today's New Belgrade was the first step of urbanisation of Belgrade on the left bank of the Sava river and was followed by the construction of the modern city after WWII. During the 80 years long history, the purpose of the Old Belgrade Fairground has been changed several times creating multilayered identity of the urban complex. The Modern exhibition space of the inter-war period was transformed into the infamous concentration camp during WWII. Structures that survived the bombings were re-used as a habitat for youth brigades that participated in the construction of New Belgrade, while its previous purposes were suppressed. During the rebuilding of the city in the post-war period, the Old Belgrade Fairground was ignored. As forgotten place of memory it was partly adapted by artists into ateliers and partly became shelter for poor people. Despite its multileveled historical, cultural and architectural significance, the Old Belgrade Fairground today is neglected. Although a pioneer of Modern Movement in Belgrade, and at the same time an important memorial place, it is today a ruined structure that is decaying. Its multiple histories and "too much identity" created absence of any planned activity in order not to make a wrong one. After its ability to absorb different functions and adapt to huge transformations, its resilience is being contested by disability to balance the complex history. The paper investigates on the transformations and presents a concept of "dissonant heritage" as an instrument for renewal of the Old Belgrade Fairground that needs to use all of its complexity in order to truly recover from the past.}},

abstract = {{The rapid growth of optical imaging technologies increased the access and collection of data, which boosts the demand of data and knowledge discovery. This is a fast growing topic in several industry and research areas. Nowadays, a large number of images and signals must be analysed in order to gain and learn proper knowledge. Detecting images with similar contents without specifying an image, recently attracts the researches in image processing domain. Motif discovery in image processing aims to tackle the problem of deriving structures or detecting regularities in image databases. Most of the motif discovery methods solve this problem by converting images into one dimensional time series in a pre-processing step and then applying a motif discovery on these one dimensional time series for image motifs detection. Nevertheless, this conversion might lead to information loss and also the problem of inability to discover shifted and multi-scale image motifs of different size. Contrary to other approaches, here, a method is proposed to find image motifs of different size in image data sets by employing images in original dimension (2D) without converting them to one dimensional time series.
The proposed approach consists of three steps: Mapping or transformation, feature extraction and measuring similarities. First, images are inspected by the Complex Quad Tree Wavelet Packet transform, which provides broad frequency analysis of an image in various scales. Next, statistical features are extracted from the wavelet coefficients. Finally, image motifs are detected by measuring the similarity of the features applying various similarity measures. Here, the performance of six similarity measures are benchmarked in details. Moreover, the efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated on a data set with images from diverse applications such as hand gesture, text recognition, leaf and plant identification, etc. Additionally, the robustness of this method is examined with the image data overlaying with distortions such as noise and blur.}},

The focus of this contribution is on distributed sensor and information fusion systems for system monitoring, which must reflect the increasing flexibility of fusion systems. This contribution thus proposes an approach, which relies on a network of self-descriptive intelligent sensor nodes, for the automatic design and update of sensor and information fusion systems. At the learning stage, for small/incomplete datasets it is nonetheless often possible to get high accuracies for several arbitrarily chosen classifiers. The fact is that many classifiers might perform accurately, but decision boundaries might be inadequate. In this situation, the decision supported by marginlike characteristics for the discrimination of classes might be taken into account. Accuracy as an exclusive measure is often not sufficient. To contribute to the solution of this problem, we present a margin-based approach originated from an existing refinement procedure. In our method, margin value is considered as optimisation criterion for the refinement of SVM models. The performance of the approach is evaluated on a real-world application dataset for Motor Drive Diagnosis coming from the field of intelligent autonomous systems in the context of I ndustry 4.0 paradigm as well as on several UCI Repository samples with different numbers of features and objects.}},

An increased availability of sensors in industrial machines, but also in everyday life, results in large amounts of potential features. Each feature entails computational and communicational costs. An information fusion system may not require all features, supported by the available sensors, to fulfil its purpose. Feature selection methods reduce the amount of features with the aim to maintain or even increase performance. This contribution proposes a feature selection approach exploiting the inherent conflict between features and utilising a state-ofthe-art information fusion operator. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated in the scope of a publicly available data set and benchmarked against an established feature selection method. In view of this, the coursework for the degree in Industrial Engineering has been designed to include teaching formats with a high level of interaction among students. In keeping with this teaching approach, an additional business game was developed for the Production Systems module. This game provides knowledge about the structure of the logistical workflow within production in general and the Kanban method in particular. The first step in designing the game was to define learning objectives. Based on these, a basic concept was derived. This basic concept applies the guideline for the introduction of Kanban by Geiger et al. (2011). The detailed concept was then worked out over the course of further development, leading to the design of an assembly line for Lego cars as well as the design of tasks on the subject of Kanban capability and for calculating the number of Kanban. The business game illustrates, inter alia, the difference between the Kanban method and a conventional production planning and control system. The simulation has been tested in a university course, evaluated and, in response to the positive feedback from students, integrated in the course instruction. The conclusion of the paper provides an outlook on the further development of instruction in the context of the digitization and networking of production.}},

The transmission is a core component in PHEVs since it defines the interaction between the internal combustion engine and the electric motors. Due to the complexity of PHEVs, a model-based development is carried out for novel transmission concepts, which takes the overall powertrain into account, as well. In this contribution, an approach for the model-based development of transmission concepts for PHEVs is presented. It incorporates the development and evaluation of new concepts as well as the development and test of corresponding controllers. Since each step of the development requires a powertrain model with an appropriate level of detail, an automatic model generation is used to enable an efficient workflow. This contribution focuses on the development of new transmission concepts only. It comprises an optimization of the number of gears and transmission ratios for an exemplary transmission. As a result of the proposed approach a novel transmission concept for PHEVs including a model-based evaluation is presented.}},

abstract = {{Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are developed in order to reduce the fuel consumption and the emission of carbon dioxide. Besides the series, parallel and power split configurations are commonly used for conventional hybrid electric vehicles, and multimode transmissions are used for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which are able to switch between different modes like parallel or series operation of the combustion engine and electric motor. Several concepts have already been discussed and presented. These concepts comprise novel structures and multi-speed operation for the combustion engine and the electric motor, respectively. For improving the fuel and energy consumption, model-based optimizations of multimode transmissions are performed. In the first step of the optimization, the optimal number of gears and transmission ratios, as well as the corresponding fuel and energy savings, are estimated. Based on these results, a new multimode transmission concept with two-speed transmissions for the combustion engine and the electric motor has been developed. The knowledge of the concrete concept enables the further optimizations of the transmission ratios and the transmission control. In order to prove the benefit of the new and optimized transmission concept, powertrain simulations have been carried out. The new powertrain concept is compared to a powertrain concept with single-speed transmissions for the internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric motor operation. The new transmission concept enables a significant improvement of the fuel consumption.}},

IT thereby contributes to flexible and adaptive production processes, and in this sense factories become “smart factories”. In line with this, IT also more and more supports human workers via various assistance systems. This support aims to both support workers to better execute their tasks and to reduce the effort and time required when working. However, due to the large spectrum of assistance systems, it is hard to acquire an overview and to select an adequate system for a smart factory based on meaningful criteria. abstract = {{Spätestens seit dem Markteintritt des US-Unternehmens Netflix im Jahr 2014 ist Video-on-Demand auch in Deutschland ein viel diskutiertes Thema.

abstract = {{ Science Studies (German: "Wissenschaftsforschung") is one of the core modules of a new master's degree program "Higher Education" at the Hamburg Center for University Teaching and Learning (HUL).
Subject matters of this executive program cover a broad field of higher educational issues:
One of the areas of reflection dealt with in this program are the epistemological premises and the underpinning assumptions of higher educational research. This philosophy of science view on teaching and learning leads towards a confrontation with methodological questions on research designs in this area. The discussion focuses in more detail onto the role of communication in educational practice and its research ("science rhetorics").

The intention of this module is to go beyond simple answers by focusing on the reflective nature of researchers investigating their own field ("scholarship of teaching and learning"). It addresses questions of higher educational research from a higher educational research perspective and therefore may be identified with the concept of "second order research": We hence aim at providing a new way of understanding higher educational research by following a second-order cybernetics and systems theories agenda referring to von Foerster, Maturana & Varela, von Glasersfeld and Luhmann.
We developed the master's program by conducting a design-based research methodology. Its curriculum follows the results of this research process and its conceptual design presented in this contribution therefore is to be classified as "research-based" rather than "based on experience".}},

abstract = {{It is our pleasure to introduce the seventh edition of the International Conference on Production Engineering and Management (PEM), an event that is the result of the joint effort of the University of Trieste and the Ostwestfalen-
Lippe University of Applied Sciences. The conference has been established as an annual meeting under the Double Degree Master Program “Production Engineering and Management” by the two partner universities. This year the conference is hosted at the university campus in Pordenone. The main goal of the conference is to offer students, researchers and professionals in Germany, Italy and abroad, an opportunity to meet and exchange information, discuss experience, specific practices and technical solutions for planning, design and management of manufacturing and service systems and processes. As always, the conference is a platform aimed at presenting research projects, introducing young academics to the tradition of symposiums and promoting the exchange of ideas between the industry and the academy. This year’s special focus is on industry sustainability, which is currently a major topic of discussion among experts and professionals. Sustainability can be considered as a requirement for any modern production processes and systems, and also has to be embedded in the context of Industry 4.0. In fact, the features and problems of industry 4.0 have been widely discussed in the last editions of the PEM conference, in which efficiency and waste reduction emerged as key factors. The study and development of the connections between future industry and sustainability is therefore critical, as highlighted in the recent “German Sustainable Development Strategy and the 2030 Agenda”. Accordingly, the seventh edition of the PEM conference aims to offer a contribution to the debate. The conference program includes 25 speeches organized in six sessions. Three are specifically dedicated to “Direct Digital Manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0” and “Technology and Business for Circular Economy and Sustainable Production”. The other sessions are covering areas of great interest and importance to the participants of the conference, which are related to the main focus: “Innovative Management Techniques and Methodologies”, “Industrial Engineering and Lean Management” and “Wood Processing Technologies and Furniture Production”. The proceedings of the conference include the articles submitted and accepted after a careful double-blind refereeing process.}},

In the first part, detailed requirements for such a network are given from the viewpoint of a customer. Based on those, different concepts for AC/DC conversion and energy management are discussed. As far as AC/DC conversion is concerned, the advantages and drawbacks of several rectifier topologies are listed, as they have a significant impact on the system behavior and EMC properties.
An intelligent energy management can improve the energy efficiency and reduce downtimes of a plant, which are major requirements from a customer’s viewpoint. }},

abstract = {{Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies have not only revolutionized product development and design by enabling rapid prototyping. They also gained influence on production in general, mainly because of their direct manufacturing capabilities. In the context of Industry 4.0 and the related process automation, innovative and advanced production technologies with completely new approaches are required [1]. AM technologies contribute to this with their advantages like freedom of design, cost efficient product individualization, and functional integration. On the other hand, AM still shows shortcomings in exploiting its full potential. Most current AM technologies are only applicable for manufacturing with singular materials. In particular, opportunities for processing of optically or electrically conductive materials are still missing. This paper contributes to the advancement of additive manufacturing of two different material variants or even two completely different materials. A special focus is laid on producing a part that combines mechanical with optical or electrical functionalities in one process step. The ultimate goal is to integrate sensor functionalities into an AM object, e.g. strain gauges. Extrusion processes, predominantly Fused Layer Modeling (FLM), are preferred in this research due to their mechanically simple machine setup in which additional functional materials can be adapted easily to the build process. In a first step, the general manufacturability has been evaluated. Thereafter, the resulting optical transmission properties have been analyzed. Especially the attenuation has to remain below a threshold value to accomplish a minimum signal-to-noise ratio.}},

To stay competitive, the manufacturing companies of these smart products need to optimize their internal lifecycleprocesses. Mainly, they have to converge the software and hardware lifecycleprocesses. However, even if this strategic necessity has been recognized, manufacturing companies struggle to develop and implement a roadmap of such convergence.Starting point for the realization of harmonized lifecycle processes are processmodels describing process activities and the underlying data models. This research addresses the latter one and aims to create a generic lifecycle data model. The research team created and evaluated such data model referring to development artifacts such as requirements, parts or test cases and to lifecycle artifacts such as revisions, versions and baselines. The generic lifecycle management model was evaluated by a practical development of a smart product. By this, the research provides a valuable result to maintain and increase the competitiveness of manufacturing companies.}},

Nevertheless, their applicability is not yet completely proven, especially in terms of surface finishing. The aim of this research work is to create perfect mold inserts by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and to optimize surface quality. Therefore a process is developed to reduce the effort of surface quality optimization including a high flexibility in design. The tested process shows that simple and affordable methods can lead to usable molds with only minor restrictions in terms of appearance. Due to the initial reduction of layer thicknesses and distinct settings of laser melting parameters, the surface smoothness is significantly enhanced during the SLM building process. Subsequently blasting, manual grinding, as well as polishing operations, enable a selective smoothening of the surface up to a polished finish. As a result, the built tool parts can be used instantly for injection molding.}},

abstract = {{Due to a high level of competition in automotive industry, it is essentially important for automotive companies to develop innovative strategies and technologies in production and logistics. Postponement of production difference, i.e., customer individualized demand has been considered as an innovative strategy and more or less implemented in the production process, mostly before and during the final assembly. This paper proposed the concept of postponing the individualization of some components after the assembly. The idea is to use the idle times especially during the distribution process when vehicles are accumulated to generate big transportation batches or the follow-up transport does not start immediately. The individualization is carried out in specially realized workshops. Objectives of the approach are to reduce variations in the manufacturing, to shorten delivery times and to give consumers the ability to reorder individual components shortly before delivery. This kind of postponement of individualization induces the requirement of redesigning the logistics network, which means the selection of workshop locations and the new selection of the suppliers for the individualized components. To reach this aim, a software tool has been developed. In the tool, the data required in the logistics network such as suppliers and workshop potential locations are managed in a MySQL database and the optimization of the network is achieved by the especiallydeveloped non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). The design and development of the solution individuals and the fitness functions, which are the most important elements of a genetic algorithm, are based on the mathematical model of the logistics network design with product late individualization. Different scenarios are considered and generated to examine the applicability of the methodology in automotive practice. The optimization model and the heuristics of genetic algorithm are validated through the Pareto solutions for different scenarios.}},

abstract = {{Yugoslavian Modernist Architecture, although part of a larger cultural phenomenon, received hardly any international attention, since there are only a few internationally published studies about it. Nevertheless, Modernist Architecture of the Inter-war Yugoslavia (Kingdom of Yugoslavia), and specially Modernist Architecture of the Post-war Yugoslavia (Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia under the "reign" of Tito), represents the most important architectural heritage of the 20th century in former Yugoslavian countries. Belgrade, as the capital city of both newly founded Yugoslavia(s), experienced an immediate economic, political and cultural expansion after the both wars, as well as a large population increase. The construction of sufficient and appropriate new housing was a major undertaking in both periods (1919-1940 and 1948-1980), however conceived and realized with deeply diverging views. The transition from villas and modest apartment buildings, as main housing typologies in the Inter-war period, to the mass housing of the Post-war period, was not only a result of the different socio-political context of the two Yugoslavia(s), but also the country's industrialization, modernization and technological development. Through the classification of Modernist housing buildings in Belgrade, this paper will investigate on relations between the transformations of the main housing typologies executed under different socio-political contexts on the one side, and development of building technologies, construction systems and materials applied on those buildings on the other side. The paper wants to shed light on the Yugoslavian Modernist Architecture in order to increase the international awareness on its architectural and heritage values. The aim is an integrated re-evaluation of the buildings, presentation of their current condition and potentials for future (re)use with a specific focus on building envelopes and construction.}},

abstract = {{This paper presents a bidirectional optical data transmission system as an enhancement of a contactless power transmission system (CPTS). The latter consists of two separate devices and is able to transmit up to 240W of electrical power using inductive resonant coupling. The optical system consists of two self-developed light-guiding structures and a short-reach free-space optical path. As source and sink of the optical system a light-emitting diode resp. a photodiode with a centroid wavelength of 850nm are used. The optical system is positioned within the CPTS; it transmits the PROFIBUS protocol. Due to the restrictions given by the applications areas of the CPTS, such as air gap up to 5°mm, misalignment up to 2 mm, tilting up to 5 and rotation angle up to 360°, different kinds of light-guiding structures are analyzed by simulation. Based on these results the most promising structures are selected and manufactured. Hereafter the attenuation and the near field characteristic of one light-guiding structure is analyzed. After this, the attenuation based on misalignment, variation of air gap, tilting and rotation between two light-guiding structures are analyzed by measurement. To check whether the requirements of the PROFIBUS has been satisfied by the complete data transmission system, the transient transmission behavior of the system was analyzed by a pseudo-random bit stream. In this paper the most important results of the design, the simulation and the measurement are explained. The presented results demonstrate the ability to design of such systems based on simulations and to evaluate the suitability of various geometries for present and future works.}},

abstract = {{Since 2000 (in the beginning 21st Century) climate change and globalisation have influenced the actual
world and all societies tremendously and the have also affected the way we are building. Safety and
security requirements are increasing and are consequently influencing the design of the building envelope.
‘Resilience’ describes the function and ability of buildings and their facades to to recover from or adjust
easily to change. “Resilience” addresses the impacts of climate change and globalization and of safety and security requirements on the building envelope. The first edition of the Detmold Conference Week 2017 connects education and research, scholars and professionals in different events and formats: a master workshop and two conferences will discuss the approaches of resilient design and construction for buildings and facades.
The direct way to specific stresses forced by water, wind, fire, explosion or earthquake but also in an indirect way seen as a general ability of adaptivity to different changes will be discussed at the facade2017 conference on Friday 24th November 2017 from different academic and professional perspectives.
The 1st RMB Conference on Thursday 23rd November 2017 is organized by the consortium of the ERASMUS+
project “RMB: Reuse of Modernist Buildings. Design Tools for Sustainable Transformations”. There representatives of the consortium as well as international guest will debate in particular issues of Resilience of Modern Movement Buildings and Neighborhoods. During the conference we will discuss new design and educational concepts for the reuse of modern postwar buildings for housing and other purposes – resilience through reuse. Scholars, PhD and master students present and discuss selected papers and posters.}},

abstract = {{Properly handled fish is usually marketed as “fresh fish” until day 10 after fishing. About 40% of the total fishery that is used for direct human consumption is marketed in fresh form stored at temperatures up to +2 °C. Currently, there are no validated methods available for controlling the recommended period of storage. Apart from being a potential source for food fraud, spoiled fish represents a major source of foodborne illnesses and intoxications.
In this study, a rapid MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry based screening method was developed using the vitreous fluid of fish eyes as specimen for the examination of different days of storage. The vitreous fluid was collected from n = 100 freshly fished brown trouts at day 0, 3, 7, 9, and 11 post mortem (n = 20 brown trouts each day of examination). The samples were immediately measured by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry in linear positive mode (mass range m/z 2000–20,000 Da). For quality assurance the experiment was repeated with a set of brown trouts (n = 100) originating from the same fish farm and with brown trouts (n = 100) originating from a different fish farm. For specificity testing rainbow trouts (n = 10) were examined accordingly. All obtained mass spectra were processed by means of MALDI Biotyper OC 3.1 and ClinProTools 3.0 software.
The MALDI Biotyper approach showed limited applicability for the identification of the time of storage. However, it was suitable to reliably discriminate between the closely related species brown and rainbow trout. Processing by ClinProTools revealed four crucial mass peaks (m/z 2594 Da, m/z 4857 Da, m/z 4879 Da, m/z 4899 Da) which enabled a reliable differentiation between day 0 and 3, 7, 9, 11 (rate of correct identification > 90%) as well as the differentiation between day 3 and 7, 9, 11 (rate of correct identification > 72%). However, this approach showed limited applicability within the end of the tested period of storage when comparing between day 7, 9, or 11.}},

abstract = {{The consumption of edible insects (entomophagy) will gain greater significance facing the increasing global population, which is suggested to reach 9 billion people in 2050 (FAO., 2009). Due to their high amount of proteins, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals insects represent a valuable source of essential nutrients.
While the consumption of insects is very common in many countries of Africa and Asia, there is a far smaller acceptance for entomophagy in Western cultures. Though, products such as noodles or burger paddies made from insect meal have a better compliance and can already be purchased in some countries of the European Union. This processing step however involves the risk of adulteration, because there is no more possibility to authenticate the insects once they are ground.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether edible insects could be measured and distinguished by MALDI-TOF MS (matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry). Therefore, different kinds of edible insects (buffalo worms, mealworms, crickets and grasshoppers) were purchased via online shops and ground subsequently. The insect powder was extracted by vigorously shaking in diluted formic acid and measured by MALDI-TOF MS. The measurement provided reproducible as well as specific mass spectra and enabled a precise differentiation of the different species.}},
