Improper or lack of maintenance may result in excessive component wear, production quality deterioration, or even longer downtime. However, today's production facilities strive to devote the least amount of necessary maintenance time in order to maximize production time. Therefore, new solutions for deliberate and efficient maintenance are needed. The solution proposed in this paper benefits from the newest trends and innovations in industry, namely the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) which is part of the Industrie 4.0 (I4.0) concept. The AAS shall contain the maintenance submodel which shall be used for supporting humans during the maintenance process. The submodel provides a standardized description of required tools and parts as well as step-by-step instructions which also include safety concerns and multimedia files, such as pictures and videos. In this way, maintenance can be carried out more reliably, resulting in reduced downtime. This enables the usage of data, to create additional benefit, such as condition monitoring or optimization. These capabilities can lead to cognition, such that the system is able to adapt independently to changing circumstances by learning from additional sensors information. Developing a reference architecture for the design of CPPS and standardization of machines and software interfaces is crucial to enable compatibility of data usage between different machine models and vendors. This paper analysis existing reference architecture regarding their cognitive abilities, based on requirements that are derived from three different use cases. The results from the evaluation of the reference architectures, which include two instances that stem from the field of cognitive science, reveal a gap in the applicability of the architectures regarding the generalizability and the level of abstraction. While reference architectures from the field of automation are suitable to address use case specific requirements, and do not address the general requirements, especially w.r.t. adaptability, the examples from the field of cognitive science are well usable to reach a high level of adaption and cognition. Such a facade is viewed as an uncontrolled load that sets the operational performance requirements for artificial lighting and air-cooling mechanical systems. This is in contrast to nature, which has evolved materials with the ability to learn and adapt to a micro-environment through selfregulation using materials that are multifunctional, formed by chemical composition in response to solar load. Leaf vasculature formations are of particular interest to this paper. Through leaf maximisation of daylight capture, the total leaf area density and angular distribution of leaf surfaces define the tree structure.This paper will define an approach to simulate nature to advance a microfluidic platform as a dynamic NIR absorber for solar modulation:a transformable network of multi-microchannel geometry matrix structures for autonomous transparent surfaces, for real timeflow management of conductivity. This is realised through active volumetric flows within a capillary network of circulation fluidicswithin it, through it, and out of it for energy capture and storage, the cycle of which is determined through precise management of heatflow transport within a material. Subsequently, the differences between the MTM-HWD® and MTM-1 cycle times are evaluated. The findings show that there is no significant difference from samples of prior MTM-1 studies with respect to the frequency of employed MTM-1 process building blocks. It is shown that there is a systematic difference and a linear relationship between the MTM-HWD® and MTM-1 time data. However, it is demonstrated that the relatively larger MTM-HWD® times do not differ more than 5 % from the MTM-1 times when considering the 95 % confidence interval of the mean. The quality of Germany’s water bodies has greatly improved in recent decades. Despite the considerable advances that have been made in the sewage treatment domain, point source pollution from certain nutrients and pollutants remains unduly high and thus needs to be reduced. This applies, for example, to phosphorus, as well as micro-pollutants (MPs) that in many cases cannot be adequately eliminated at wastewater treatment plants. In addition such inputs from combined sewer and rainwater (separate sewer) overflow (CSO/SSO) are also still a problem in certain water bodies. Sub-surface vertical flow constructed wetlands (SSVF) have been used since the late 1990s for CSO/SSO because of its high mechanical and biological efficiency. To achieve in particular a stable and long-term phosphorus reduction iron-containing substances are blended so far to large-scale SSVF as additives during the construction. However, some disadvantages in this type of substrate improvement must be stated. High and thereby costly material and installation costs are required and a subsequent melioration of a SSVF under continuous operation is impossible. The only possibility exists in the cost-intensive replacement of the entire soil body including replanting. All disadvantages can be avoided if instead of a substrate melioration a separate sorption stage, which is filled exclusively with iron-containing additives, is connected downstream of the SSVF. The material consumption is limited only to this sorption stage. This paper gives the results of an appropriate 3 year large-scale investigation including reduction rates and operational data concerning the standard parameters with the main focus on phosphorus as well as selected MPs and selected heavy metals as four of the six heavy metals investigated are classified as priority or even priority hazardous substances. The sorption stage consisted of two reactors, operated in series. The first reactor was filled with FerroSorp® (granular iron hydroxide), the second reactor with GAC. The P-removal of SSVF and sorption stage is in a load-related magnitude of 94% (oPO4-P), resulting in concentrations mainly less than 0.1 mg oPO4-P/L. Considering the FerroSorp® load capacity of 40% after two years of operation it can be estimated that a separated sorption stage might achieve a minimum lifetime of 4 years. Current German standards for meliorated SSVF generally recommend an amount of filter substrate of 10% by mass to achieve P-removal rates of 80% for two years of lifetime. This lifetime is half as long as with the investigated downstream sorption process and this with the thirtyfold increased use of iron-containing additive. Commenting the MP elimination, a substantial MP-loading of the CSO as well as a substantial MP-removal in the SSVF can be stated. Ten out of eleven MPs are reduced by the SSVF between 20% up to 80% (Metoprolol). The final downstream GAC sorption reactor eliminated all MPs almost completely as expected. The analyzed heavy metals cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) are retained in the entire three-stage plant (SSVF, two sorption reactors) with high efficiencies between 80% and 97%. These findings suggest that the decay of memory for details over time is a specific case of a broader principle that governs our memory system and is based on psychological distance between the individual and the target entity. More broadly, these results speak to the growing literature, which suggests that one of the major roles of memory is prospection. Smart physical products are often mechatronic products that include increasing amounts of software. The development of software, however, comes along with new challenges for companies specialized in developing mechanical, electrical or electronic products. Some of these challenges address the product lifecycle management (PLM)-related business and work processes. The management of software lifecycles requires a much more rigorous requirements management. Furthermore, special solutions for management of source code in distributed development teams are needed. The build-process and testing activities need to be conducted in a systematic manner. The generation and provision of different licensing models need to be mastered and finally the issue of security needs to be addressed for any product that can be networked---which by the way is a strategic target of nearly any product developing company. Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) covers many of the above-mentioned issues. IT solutions for ALM are comparable to traditional PLM solutions, but focus particularly on software as a product. Thus, these systems have become widely used by software companies in the same manner as PLM solutions belong to the standard enterprise IT environment of companies developing physical products. With software penetrating traditional physical products, product managers, product developers, manufacturing staff etc. need to work with both, PLM and ALM, since neither solution is able to cover both domains sufficiently. However, ALM and PLM solutions feature redundant functionality. Die Gegenbewegung zur autogerechten Stadt setzte in den 1980er Jahren ein und verfolgt im Kern ein diametral entgegengesetztes Ziel – die fußläufige Stadt. Doch auch über 30 Jahre später zeigt sich abseits der Innenstädte in den umliegenden Stadtteilen und Dörfern noch ein ernüchterndes monofunktionales Bild. Dabei sind es genau diese räumlichen Einheiten, die in etwa dem fußläufigen Bewegungsradius seiner Bewohner entsprechen. Hier - von der eigenen Wohnung aus erreichbar - braucht es Angebote für die Ziele des Alltags. Inzwischen belegen zahlreiche Studien die Möglichkeiten und Vorteile kompakter nutzungsgemischter Quartiere in ökologischer, sozialer und ökonomischer Hinsicht. Diese Größeneinheit hat ein prominentes Vorbild: Die mittelalterliche europäische Stadt. Mit diesem Perspektivwechsel wird die Stadt von vorgestern zur Vorlage für das Quartier von übermorgen. Daher wurde bei der Spezifikation des neuen 5G-Standards explizit die Nutzung im industriellen Umfeld mit berücksichtigt. Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Vorteilen der Multi-Connectivity (MC), welche sich durch die Architektur des neuen 5G-NR Standards in der Automatisierungstechnik ergeben können. Hierzu wurden im ersten Schritt Funkkanalmessungen in einer industrienahen Umgebung – der SmartFactoryOWL – durchgeführt, und im weiteren Verlauf die MC in einen Kommunikationsstack integriert und die Zuverlässigkeit (Reliability) (REL) bei verschiedenen MCKonfigurationen ermittelt. Therefore, we present a method that incorporates Hardware-in-the-Loop simulations where virtual components as models are coupled to real and experimental facilities in real time. By including experimental components, a higher validity can be obtained and the practical applicability of renewable energy scenario can be discussed more profoundly. In this paper, the considered energy system consists of an experimental biocatalytic methanation reactor, a real photovoltaic park, a regenerative fuel cell and short-term storage units to supply a residential district. A representative control sequence of the methanator is obtained by modeling the scenario as an optimal control problem. A first HIL simulation highlights that modifications of the instrumentation are required for a grid injection of the generated methane. The scientific approach can be applied to any energy system where some of the considered components are available as experimental or real facilities. Non-exisiting components are simply replaced by models. The presented approach helps to determine which parts or process parameters are crucial for the planed operation before the overall energy system is realized on a larger scale. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
