Repairs themselves are required to be inspected for quality, preferably cost- and time-efficiently. This paper presents an approach for the inspection of repaired composites based on guided Lamb waves. The focus is on cost-effective signal excitation and effective signal processing. Lamb waves are excited with piezoelectric transducers at the resonance frequency of the material under test. Measured signals are processed with a complex wavelet transform to improve damage detection. The proposed approach is evaluated on two test specimens, one of which has a defect in the adhesive bond.}},

abstract = {{To connect terminals in a cyber–physical system, large quantities of electrical contacts are used. In order to guarantee a high reliability of the system, the lifetime of the electrical contacts should be very long. Thus, it is of great importance to understand the failure mechanism and then to predict the lifetime of the electrical contacts. For the applications under high thermal and/or mechanical loads, noble plating is a good choice, considering its inertness to oxidation. For noble plating, one of the most critical failure mechanisms is the fretting wear. Wear debris generated in the contact area, acting as the third bodies, will greatly influence the further wear behavior and electrical performance. In this study, the state of the art regarding third bodies is firstly reviewed, and then the influence of the third bodies on the wear and electrical performance is investigated, from the aspects of lifetime and the element distributions in contact area. Finally, an example of prediction of the wear of noble plating is shown with the consideration of the third bodies. Based on this study, by involving the third bodies, the wear of noble plating can be predicted with a higher accuracy.}},

Previous studies indicated that virtual reality adaptations of the TSST are less potent in stimulating HPA-axis responses, with lower salivary cortisol responses recorded as compared to the in-vivo TSST. (TSST-IV). In the present experiment we tested the stress-induction potential of a refined version of the TSST-VR using a fully orthogonal experimental design in which ninety-three healthy males were either assigned to the TSST condition or a corresponding control condition in a real or virtual environment. We found a significant increase of endocrine, autonomic and self-reported stress markers in both stress conditions. Notably, we found a robust rise in salivary cortisol to the TSST-VR comparable to that observed in the TSST-IV. Despite subtle differences in response between virtual and in vivo settings, we conclude that VR adaptations of in-vivo stressors have the potential to induce real physiological and subjective reactions.}},

abstract = {{Three experiments explored the effect of medium of presentation (pictures, words) and psychological distance (proximal, distal) on episodic memory. In particular, we predicted that memory would be better for congruent combinations of medium and distance (i.e., pictures of psychologically proximal entities and verbal labels of psychologically distal entities) than incongruent combinations (i.e., pictures of psychologically distal entities and verbal labels of psychologically proximal entities). Our results support this hypothesis. In Experiments 1 and 2, recall was better when medium and temporal distance were congruent than not. In Experiment 3 people recognition was better when medium and spatial distance were congruent than not. These findings suggest that the decay of memory for details over time is a specific case of a broader principle that governs our memory system and is based on psychological distance between the individual and the target entity. More broadly, these results speak to the growing literature, which suggests that one of the major roles of memory is prospection. Within this framing, our findings suggest that the memory system serves prospection using qualitatively different information processing devices, depending on the psychological distance of the target from the individual.}},

abstract = {{Attitudes are at the core of many topical issues, and a meeting point for research and discussion. This pervasiveness is not surprising given an attitude's utility in reducing the complexity of the environment into relatively simple likes or dislikes of stimuli. How attitudes are formed is usually addressed by means of evaluative conditioning (EC). EC has been addressed from a traditional cognitive and a functional account. In this article, we present a different perspective on EC, which is situated in action control research. This perspective tries to take advantage of the strengths of both existing EC accounts by focusing on those cognitive processes that enjoy high levels of experimental control and that are necessary to explain how stimuli find their way into mental processing and ultimately into an evaluative response. Implications of this action control based account for EC research in specific and for attitude research in general are discussed.}},

However, at this point it is still unclear which problems of information representation actually arise in manual assembly operations and how these problems may be solved through the use of informational assistance systems. In two example cases, this paper identifies problems of information representation by juxtaposing actual and target processes. Using the method of inductive category development, the identified problems of information representation are collected in a total of five categories, for which principles for the design of informational assembly assistance systems are then formulated.}},

abstract = {{In industriellen Szenarien wächst seit Längerem der Bedarf an drahtloser und zuverlässiger Kommunikation.

abstract = {{Empirical research shows that the informational design of manual assembly systems is becoming increasingly important in the light of growing complexity. Assembly assistance systems supply employees with information according to their needs and individual situation. This article aims to present important principles for the design of informational assembly assistance systems. The empirical basis for these principles is formed by projects involving the introduction of informational assistance systems for assembly work. The trends and design recommendations are explained using a model, which illustrates important associations between the complexity of assembly tasks, the demands on the mental capacity of employees, work productivity and the use of assembly assistance systems.}},

abstract = {{The German regulation for the protection of surface waters (OGewV) supplements and substantiate the requirements regarding the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and contains detailed regulations regarding the classification, presentation and monitoring of the ecological and the chemical status of surface waters including thresholds for phosphorus. The quality of Germany’s water bodies has greatly improved in recent decades. Despite the considerable advances that have been made in the sewage treatment domain, point source pollution from certain nutrients and pollutants remains unduly high and thus needs to be reduced. This applies, for example, to phosphorus, as well as micro-pollutants (MPs) that in many cases cannot be adequately eliminated at wastewater treatment plants. In addition such inputs from combined sewer and rainwater (separate sewer) overflow (CSO/SSO) are also still a problem in certain water bodies.
Sub-surface vertical flow constructed wetlands (SSVF) have been used since the late 1990s for CSO/SSO because of its high mechanical and biological efficiency. To achieve in particular a stable and long-term phosphorus reduction iron-containing substances are blended so far to large-scale SSVF as additives during the construction. However, some disadvantages in this type of substrate improvement must be stated. High and thereby costly material and installation costs are required and a subsequent melioration of a SSVF under continuous operation is impossible. The only possibility exists in the cost-intensive replacement of the entire soil body including replanting. All disadvantages can be avoided if instead of a substrate melioration a separate sorption stage, which is filled exclusively with iron-containing additives, is connected downstream of the SSVF. The material consumption is limited only to this sorption stage. This paper gives the results of an appropriate 3 year large-scale investigation including reduction rates and operational data concerning the standard parameters with the main focus on phosphorus as well as selected MPs and selected heavy metals as four of the six heavy metals investigated are classified as priority or even priority hazardous substances.
The sorption stage consisted of two reactors, operated in series. The first reactor was filled with FerroSorp® (granular iron hydroxide), the second reactor with GAC. The P-removal of SSVF and sorption stage is in a load-related magnitude of 94% (oPO4-P), resulting in concentrations mainly less than 0.1 mg oPO4-P/L. Considering the FerroSorp® load capacity of 40% after two years of operation it can be estimated that a separated sorption stage might achieve a minimum lifetime of 4 years. Current German standards for meliorated SSVF generally recommend an amount of filter substrate of 10% by mass to achieve P-removal rates of 80% for two years of lifetime. This lifetime is half as long as with the investigated downstream sorption process and this with the thirtyfold increased use of iron-containing additive. Commenting the MP elimination, a substantial MP-loading of the CSO as well as a substantial MP-removal in the SSVF can be stated. Ten out of eleven MPs are reduced by the SSVF between 20% up to 80% (Metoprolol). The final downstream GAC sorption reactor eliminated all MPs almost completely as expected. The analyzed heavy metals cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) are retained in the entire three-stage plant (SSVF, two sorption reactors) with high efficiencies between 80% and 97%. Mercury (Hg) was analyzed only at very low concentration level. }},

abstract = {{This paper presents the empirical validation of the time accuracy of the process building block system MTM-HWD® (Human Work Design). The analysis is based on process data collected from 62 different workplaces in German manufacturing companies. The accuracy of the process system is analyzed by studying the frequency of employed process building blocks in the data collection procedure. Subsequently, the differences between the MTM-HWD® and MTM-1 cycle times are evaluated. The findings show that there is no significant difference from samples of prior MTM-1 studies with respect to the frequency of employed MTM-1 process building blocks. It is shown that there is a systematic difference and a linear relationship between the MTM-HWD® and MTM-1 time data. However, it is demonstrated that the relatively larger MTM-HWD® times do not differ more than 5 % from the MTM-1 times when considering the 95 % confidence interval of the mean. These results meet the development aims in terms of the defined accuracy of the method of ± 5 % in comparison to MTM-1.}},

The International Conference in Berlin takes the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus as an opportunity to discuss the significance of modernity in the 21st century. The conference focus will be on the concepts, visions, and impulses emanating from Modern Movement and how they can be related to today’s social, economic, cultural and in particular creative issues.

Are the social, spatial and constructional concepts formulated by modern movement and post-war modernism still sustainable today?
What role do cultural and climatic conditions play in the preservation, renovation and transformation of spaces, buildings, and modern
movement sites?
How can the basic ideas of classical modernism be continued 100 years later and thus contribute to solving current challenges?
What contribution can be expected from academic and professional education, and which learning formats are suitable for this?

The 2019 DOCOMOMO Germany event will move from Karlsruhe and be held for the first time in Berlin, Neukölln at the Werkstatt der Kulturen. It continues the tradition of the Karlsruhe DOCOMOMO Germany Conference. This year the conference is co-organised by ‘RMB‘, a project that is funded by the EU and coordinated by the OWL University of Applied Sciences. RMB initiates a pedagogical framework on a European level on the reuse of modernist buildings based on common definitions, methods, and approaches. RMB prepares a Joint Master on Reuse of Modernist Buildings. This cooperation of DOCOMOMO Germany and RMB resulted in a new conference format: a combination of invited keynote speakers and selected scientific lectures under the theme of ‘What interest do we take in the Modern Movement today?‘.}},

To qualify the role of individual lake characteristics in their response to regionally homogeneous warming, we simulated temperature, ice cover, and mixing in four intensively studied German lakes of varying morphology and mixing regime with a one-dimensional lake model. We forced the model with an ensemble of 12 climate projections (RCP4.5) up to 2100. The lakes were projected to warm at 0.10–0.11 ∘C decade−1, which is 75 %–90 % of the projected air temperature trend. In simulations, surface temperatures increased strongly in winter and spring, but little or not at all in summer and autumn. Mean bottom temperatures were projected to increase in all lakes, with steeper trends in winter and in shallower lakes. Modelled ice thaw and summer stratification advanced by 1.5–2.2 and 1.4–1.8 days decade−1 respectively, whereas autumn turnover and winter freeze timing was less sensitive. The projected summer mixed-layer depth was unaffected by warming but sensitive to changes in water transparency. By mid-century, the frequency of ice and stratification-free winters was projected to increase by about 20 %, making ice cover rare and shifting the two deeper dimictic lakes to a predominantly monomictic regime. The polymictic lake was unlikely to become dimictic by the end of the century. A sensitivity analysis predicted that decreasing transparency would dampen the effect of warming on mean temperature but amplify its effect on stratification. However, this interaction was only predicted to occur in clear lakes, and not in the study lakes at their historical transparency. Not only lake morphology, but also mixing regime determines how heat is stored and ultimately how lakes respond to climate warming. Seasonal differences in climate warming rates are thus important and require more attention.}},

Hierfür wurden Ansätze des Ortsbindungsmodells von Scannell und Gifford (Journal of Environmental Psychology, 30(1), 1–10, 2010a) sowie für der Erholungswert die Attention Restoration Theory von Kaplan und Kaplan (The experience of nature. A psychological perspective. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press) operationalisiert.
