  abstract     = {{[Intro] The paper introduces a participatory tool for assessment of the Middle-Class Mass Housing (MCMH) in Europe that was simultaneously applied in two studies, on the two cases New Belgrade (Serbia) and Almere Haven (The Netherlands). The studies were exploring the values, problems and opportunities of these residential neighbourhoods through the eyes of their residents. 

[Method] A comparative analysis reveals contrasting and complementary aspects of the two cases. Exploratory interviews and surveys were used to collect testimonies of residents, informing the method of assessment (co-diagnosis) in residential neighbourhoods. By applying the same tool and comparing results, the paper contributes to a validation of this method for research on MCMH neighbourhoods in different regions and for different MCMH typologies and scales. 

[Result] The paper highlights some main themes of residents’ analysis of their neighbourhood’s strengths and weaknesses. Aspects discussed are, among others, deterioration (technical, functional, social), sense of community, place attachment, maintenance and taking care, ownership and appropriation, quality of public spaces and green areas, satisfaction and comfort. Both researches are still in development, but some preliminary conclusions can be sketched. Although both cases were built in the same decades (1970s-80s), they seem to hold opposite architectural and urban characteristics. New Belgrade is composed of modernist blocks with mass housing types in a high-rise urban pattern with mainly collective green spaces. Almere Haven is a suburban low-rise pattern and consists of a wide variety of typologies, materials and a range of private, collective and public green spaces. However, the residents’ opinions and assessments show many similarities, regarding the themes they address and the values and problems they identify.

[Value for MCMH] The paper illustrates the diversity of MCMH in two different European regions and projects, identifying the broad scope that is needed to assess MCMH. Moreover, the method of exploratory talks with residents is identified as an important participatory tool within the broader analytical framework for MCMH neighbourhoods. }},

  abstract     = {{Free amino nitrogen (FAN) concentrations in beer mash can be determined with machine learning algorithms
from near-infrared (NIR) spectra. NIR spectroscopy is an alternative to a classical chemical analysis and
allows for the application of inline process quality control. This study investigates the capabilities of
different machine learning techniques such as Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, Decision Tree
Regressor (DTR), Bayesian Ridge Regression (BRR), Ridge Regression (RR), K-nearest neighbours (KNN)
regression as well as Support Vector Regression (SVR) to predict the FAN content in beer mash from NIR
spectra. Various pre-processing strategies such as principal component analysis (PCA) and data
standardization were used to process NIR data that were used to train the machine learning algorithms.
Algorithm training was conducted with NIR data obtained from 16 beer mashes with varying FAN
concentrations. The trained models were then validated with 4 beer mashes that were not used for model
training. Machine learning algorithms based on linear regression showed the highest prediction accuracy on
unpre-processed data. BRR reached a root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC) of 2.58 mg/L (R2 = 0.96)
and a prediction accuracy (RMSEP) of 2.81 mg/L (R2 = 0.96). The FAN concentration range of the investigated
samples was between approx. 180 and 220 mg/L. Machine learning based NIR spectra analysis is an alternative
to classical chemical FAN level determination methods and can also be used as inline sensor system.}},

  abstract     = {{The paper introduces a participatory method for re-generation of the common spaces in residential neighbourhoods, especially in case of post-war mass housing. The method combines regenerative design and co-commitment that are recognized as decisive factors in mass housing revitalisation. The spatial focus of the research is on New Belgrade Blocks (Serbia) that are part of the larger phenomenon of the post-socialist urban heritage. The neighbourhoods that are part of this larger framework are having common attributes and facing similar issues nowadays. Comprehending and managing change in these neighbourhoods requires community-driven actions that would include all relevant stakeholders in the process through co-commitment. The actions, that would be based on regenerative and biophilic design, would ensure both maintenance of green spaces of the neighbourhoods, as well as integration of new nature-based solutions. The approach is enhancing the role of community and highlighting the important values of common spaces in ensuring vitality of mass housing and co-creating healthy and liveable environments. The paper is contributing to contemporary discussions on resilient cities and communities and promoting participatory and integrated urban renewal.}},

  abstract     = {{Pasteurization is a crucial processing method in the food industry to ensure the safety of consumables. A major part of contemporary pasteurization processes involves using flash pasteurizer systems, where liquids are pumped through a pipe system to heat them for a predefined time. Accurately monitoring the amount of heat treatment applied to a product is challenging. This monitoring helps ensure that the correct heat impact (expressed in pasteurization units) is applied, which is commonly calculated as a product of time and temperature, taking achievability of the inactivation of the microorganisms into account. The state-of-the-art method involves a calculation of the applied pasteurization units using a one-point temperature measurement and the holding time for this temperature. Concerns about accuracy lead to high safety margins, reducing the quality of the pasteurized product. In this study, the applied pasteurization level was estimated using regression models trained with NIR spectroscopy data collected while pasteurizing fruit juices of different types and brands. Several conventional regression models were trained in combination with different preprocessing methods, including a novel prediction outlier detection method. Generalized juice models trained with the concatenated data of all types of juices demonstrated cross-validated scores of RMSECV ∼2.78 ± 0.09 and r<jats:sup>2</jats:sup> 0.96 ± 0.01, while separate juice models displayed averaged cross-validated scores of RMSECV ∼1.56 ± 0.04 and r<jats:sup>2</jats:sup> 0.98 ± 0.01. Thus, the model accuracy ±10–30 % is well within the standard safety margins. }},

  abstract     = {{ Die Begriffe „evidenzorientierte Theorie" und „evidenzbasierte Politik" werden unterschiedlich interpretiert (Jan/ Grabow, 2008; Weiland, 2013). Als gemeinsamen Kern aller Definitionen kann man aber die Forderung ansehen, dass die wissenschaftliche Basis eines Theorie- bzw. Politikzweigs von Hypothesen befreit werden soll, die nach sachgemäß durchgeführten Tests von Experten als falsifiziert angesehen werden. Dies soll auch und gerade der Fall sein, wenn die Hypothesen eine Ideologie widerspiegeln, die lediglich auf einem internen Konsens politischer Gruppen beruht, oder wenn sie der Grundüberzeugung wissenschaftlichen Schulen entsprechen, die sich trotz neuer empirischer Erkenntnisse nicht mehr weiterentwickeln und deshalb selbst dann als erstarrt betrachtet werden müssen, wenn ihre Entstehung früher einmal mit einem Erkenntnisfortschritt verbunden war.

In diesem Sinn soll der Begriff auch in diesem Buch gebraucht werden: Es soll ein Instrument beschrieben werden, mit dessen Hilfe man die Dynamik realer Marktprozesse in der Wirtschaftsgeschichte statistisch nachvollziehen kann und das es gestattet, Hypothesen wie etwa die ökonometrisch zu testen, dass eine bestimmte Art von Wettbewerbspolitik aus volkswirtschaftlicher Sicht positiv oder negativ auf diese Prozesse gewirkt hat, wie also z. B. eine Preisbindung der zweiten Hand die Prozesse beeinflusst hat, was bestimmte Formen genossenschaftlicher Kooperation zur Folge gehabt haben oder ob ein bestimmtes Kartell- oder Fusionsverbot kurzfristig zwar zu niedrigeren Preisen geführt hat, langfristig aber mit verringerten Innovationsraten erkauft werden musste. }},

  abstract     = {{<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>A statistical analysis is presented that investigates the dependence of team cities’ geographical distances on the effect of home advantage (HA) for 57 years of the men’s German first soccer division (“Bundesliga”), including 17,376 matches (seasons starting from 1964 to 2020). The data shows that the HA can clearly be evidenced in the past and present (statistical <jats:italic>p‑value</jats:italic> &lt; 0.01) and that it also exists for negligible distances (<jats:italic>p</jats:italic> &lt; 0.01). The HA and the influence of distance on the HA both significantly decreased gradually over the last decades (<jats:italic>p</jats:italic> &lt; 0.01). For the first and only time, the HA reversed into an away advantage (AA) for the season 2019/2020 (<jats:italic>p</jats:italic> &lt; 0.01). The influence of distance on HA has been significant (<jats:italic>p</jats:italic> &lt; 0.01) in the past (before about 1990) and contributed roughly by about half, compared to a situation without HA or AA. It increases with distance and saturates at around 100 km. Such saturation behaviour is in line with results from higher divisions of other countries with similar travelling distances such as Italy, Turkey and England. However, the distance-dependent contribution to HA has been approximately halved and reduced to an insignificant amount today. Furthermore, the temporal HA reduction is significantly larger for large distances compared to short distances (<jats:italic>p</jats:italic> &lt; 0.01). Reporting and quantifying a reduction (<jats:italic>p</jats:italic> &lt; 0.01) of the distance-dependent contribution to HA over a time span of 57 years is novel.</jats:p>}},

So können mittels moderner, digitaler Partizpationsplattformen Prozessbeteiligte orts- und zeitunabhängig an städtebaulichen Ideenfindungs- und Bewertungsverfahren teilnehmen und ihre Gedanken, Meinungen und Vorschläge mit anderen teilen und diskutieren. Seit einigen Jahren stehen hierfür eine Reihe adaptierbarer Softwareprodukte zur Verfügung, z. B. Consul, ein community-basiertes Opensource-Projekt der Consul Democracy Foundation auf GitHub, die proprietäre Software citizenLab des gleichnamigen belgischen Unternehmens, oder dem neuseeländischen Pendant Loomio der Loomio Cooperative Ltd. und viele weitere. Der webbasierte Zugang ermöglicht dabei nicht nur eine potenzielle Reichweitensteigerung an Teilnehmenden und die schnelle Verlinkung zu anderen digitalen Inhalten bzw. Medien, sondern erleichtert auch die statistische Informationsauswertung und die mediale wie inhaltliche Dokumentation des Gesamtprozesses. Aktuelle Softwarelösungen sind dabei als anwenderfreundliches Baukastensystem konzipiert, das je nach Anwendungsfall individuell, modular und ohne Programmierkenntnisse zusammengesetzt werden kann. Die zuschaltbaren Module reichen von einfachen Formularmasken über interaktive Karten-Tools, MindMaps und Umfragen bis hin zu integrierten Video-Chat-Funktionen und kollaborativen Whiteboards. Zukünftig ist davon auszugehen, dass die modulare Struktur und die enorm vielfältigen Einsatzgebiete dieser Softwarelösungen zunehmend auch KI-gestützte Funktionen als neue Features enthalten werden bzw. im Baukasten bestehende Module optimieren oder ablösen werden. Die Gründe hierfür liegen größtenteils im disruptiven Fortschritt der Softwarentwicklung. Andererseits darf aber auch erwogen werden, ob nicht doch häufig beobachtete Hemmnisse oder Probleme bisheriger Partizipationsverfahren ggf. durch den unterstützenden Einsatz von KI auch abgebaut oder verringert werden könnten. Beide Perspektiven stellen für sich genommen schon sehr breite Grundlagenforschungsfelder dar, die insbesondere durch die noch hinzukommenden Aspekte der Technologieakzeptanz enorm komplex werden können. Da aber die technologische Hürde zur Umsetzung einfacher Software-Prototypen durch die Vielzahl zur Verfügung stehender Opensource-Tools sehr niedrig ist, entwickelte der Forschungsschwerpunkt nextPlace der Technischen Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe zunächst eine allererste, prototypische Hardware-Software-Applikation, um - im Sinne eines Proof-of-Concept – die Relevanz und Aufwände tiefergehender Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeiten abschätzen zu können. Folglich stellen die nachfolgenden Ausführungen einen technischen Erfahrungsbericht der ersten Entwicklungsschritte dar, um einen einfachen, kostengünstigen und experimentellen Zugang in dieses noch recht junge Forschungsfeld nachvollziehbar zu machen.}},

  abstract     = {{AI is on the rise. Powerful cloud platforms and networked software components can perform increasingly complex data evaluations and simulations. Recent research and development projects1  show how great the potential of artificial intelligence is for urban planning. However, despite the impressive, technical possibilities, it currently remains unclear how planning stakeholders and the affected population can be meaningfully involved in the intelligent processes of the "black box". The authors are of the opinion that sustainable urban development planning not only requires acceptance of the spatial planning result, as has been the case up to now, but also requires acceptance of the increasingly digitally supported planning process. For this reason, it must also be possible for laypersons to understand the digital analysis and evaluation processes and to comprehend their relevance and spatial interactions. Consequently, simulations must not only run in the computers of the respective planning or engineering offices, but require a simple, haptic analog translation that can also be used in participation processes as already shown in the CityScope projects2.  
For this project, the big revitalization project of Deutzer Hafen in Cologne to a future district with more than 9.500 daily users is used as a case study in building a decision support system for urban planning. It is composed of three parts: an agent-based model, a tangible user interface and a synthetic population. The project enables users to get in touch with an agent-based model (ABM) without any knowledge in coding or even interacting with computers. It connects physical objects to digital information. Based on the theories of Castiglione et.al.3 , Gehl4 , Shannon5  and Jacobs6  this project shows how to use an artificial and analog simulation model to measure the urban vitality of the public spaces in the district, based on the activity and travelling patterns of the population. This is done by testing different scenarios in which we change interactive parameters of the model: the use of the buildings and the demographics of the population. We can then determine which scenarios benefit the most life in the public spaces of the district, by finding areas of interest or problematic ones.  }},

Diese Situation löst Unsicherheit aus und führt über zunehmende Fehlerwahrscheinlichkeit und Zeitverluste zu einer Verringerung der betrieblichen Arbeitsproduktivität. Die dadurch steigende kognitive oder mentale Beanspruchung soll durch informatorische Assistenzsysteme reduziert werden, indem passende Informationen in leicht aufzunehmender und zu verarbeitender Weise angeboten werden.   abstract     = {{The compatibility concept is widely used in psychology and ergonomics. It describes the fit between elements of a sociotechnical system which is a prerequisite to successfully cooperate towards a common goal. For at least three decades, cognitive compatibility is of increasing importance. It describes the fit of externally presented information, information processing, and the required motor action. However, with increasing system complexity, probability for incompatibility increases, too, leading to time losses, errors and overall degraded performance. The elimination of cognitive incompatibilities through ergonomic measures at the workplace requires a lot of creativity and effort. Using practical examples from mixed-model assembly, improved information management and the use of informational assistance systems are discussed as promising ergonomic approaches. The ultimate goal is to avoid cognitive overload, for example in part picking or assembly tools choosing. To find a fit between externally mediated work instructions via displays and the subjectively used internal models and competencies is a challenging task. Only if this fit is given the system is perceived as beneficial. To achieve this, the assistance system should be configurable to fit individual needs as far as possible. Successful system design requires early participation and comprehensive integration of the assistance systems into the existing IT infrastructure.

Practical relevance: Varied manual assembly requires a high degree of cognitive work. A rise in complexity of the assembly task increases the risk that cognitive incompatibility and thus cognitive overload will occur more frequently. It is shown that such unhealthy conditions can be countered by better information presentation and by the use of individually adaptable informational assistance systems.}},

In addition, the security of industrial systems is a permanent topic that could be improved by the AAS and should have a high priority for future developments and implementations of the AAS. This paper evaluates the current threat landscape for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) communicating to the AAS, as well as for IT systems hosting the AAS. The relevance of these threats is evaluated for the AAS and the threats with the highest relevance, namely BasicWeb Application Attacks and Malware Infections, are analysed in detail. The recommended countermeasures for these threats are compared with the state of the art of AAS security concepts and result in missing countermeasures and research gaps for an overall security of the AAS.}},

  abstract     = {{Sustainable use of renewable raw materials is an important issue of policy and industry. Wood prices are rising because of increasing market demand while simultaneously forests are challenged through conservation issues, deforestation and hazards. The main reasons for deforestation are agriculture, infrastructure and wood harvesting. Oil palm plantations stock on former tropical forest land and cover some 25 Mio ha worldwide. They are replanted every 25 years due to reduced productivity. Using the available wooden trunk material of the cleared plantation not only makes sense in ecological terms but is also a big chance for economy and trade. Research over the last 30 years has led to several ideas in the use for products. The biggest challenge is the anatomical structure of palm wood which is different to coniferous or broadleaf trees. Hard vascular bundles are embedded in low-density parenchyma storage tissue with high moisture content. The soft and sponge-like parenchyma tissue can be compressed easily and a significant share of the water (mc up to 600 % based on dry wood) can be squeezed out. Through press drying, the volume of the parenchyma can be reduced and the wood density increases. Wood strength and stiffness are related to its density and can be improved by densification. TH OWL developed a four-step densification process for oil palm boards. Oil palm lumber was produced from oil palm trunks in a sawmill and then densified under defined conditions. The densification process includes (1) compression to remove a certain percentage of the palm sap, (2) plastification under heat and moisture to soften the wood, (3) hot compression to achieve the densification and remove more water, and (4) press-drying to dry and harden the material. A future perspective on how the laboratory tests could be scaled up to an industrial application with a possible machinery set-up is presented. }},

  abstract     = {{The worldwide digitalization of companies changes work processes and organization of work. Digital technologies will improve productivity, efficiency, and ergonomics at the workplace. In higher education of industrial engineering, students need to reflect positive and negative consequences when designing work systems.

The initial success of technological solutions depends on people's attitude towards their actual benefit (Venkatesh & Bala, 2008). Some studies suggest that people's attitude changes with cultural background (Straub, Keil & Brenner, 1997). There is little research in an educational context on how people perceive digital technologies' impact on employee well-being and organisational performance, and how this perception differs based on culture. Therefore, this study investigates these differences from an intercultural perspective by comparing German and Japanese engineering students.

Referring to problem-based learning, we present a serious game that confronts players with solving fictive problems of a manufacturer of refrigerators by choosing between technological and traditional solutions. Initially, players choose individual well-being and organisational performance criteria out of a set of possible criteria. In four subsequent rounds, players pick a problem card that they have to solve using technological or traditional solutions. Players assess the impact of their choice considering their initially selected criteria of individual well-being and organisational performance. A player wins by achieving the highest score, which results from how well players solve their problems with the given solutions and how well these influence their initially selected criteria. A software supports the game by computing each players’ score and storing the game data. The purpose of the serious game is twofold. First, incorporating the serious game into teaching allows supporting multiple dimensions of learning goals (cf. Krathwohl, 2002) and stimulating students' learning processes. Second, it enables data collection about players' perceived impacts of digital technologies on employee well-being and organisational performance.

We describe the game rules and processes and discuss implications in the learning processes of students crossing boundaries. We present the results of playing the game with 43 students in Germany and 60 students in Japan by analysing the two games' collected data individually and by comparing the results.}},

Trotz einer verstärkt algorithmenbasierten Planung der Arbeit, bestehen im Rahmen einer Werkstattorganisation weiterhin vielfältige Freiheitsgrade hinsichtlich der Ausgestaltung der individuellen Arbeitsorganisation. Eine Beobachtung von realen Arbeitsabläufen führte daher zu der Entwicklung eines Bayesschen Netz zur Beschreibung des Verhaltens einer Arbeitsperson in Abhängigkeit der bereitgestellten Informationen. Das entwickelte Netz berechnet hierbei die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass eine Arbeitsperson aus einem Aufgabenpool eine Aufgabe auswählt und eine spezifische Handlung ausführt. Für das Bayessche Netz wird ein aktororientiertes Simulationsmodell zur Beschreibung einer individuellen Arbeitsorganisation einführend vorgestellt.}},

  abstract     = {{Industry 4.0 technologies influence how production is planned, scheduled, and controlled. In literature, different classifications of the tasks and functions of production planning and control (PPC) exist, of which one is the German Aachen PPC model. This paper conducts an exploratory literature review by reviewing 48 publications on a full-text basis. Based on the review, a cyber-physical PPC architecture is proposed, which incorporates current Industry 4.0 technologies, current optimisation methods, optimisation objectives, and disturbances, relevant for the realisation of a PPC system in a smart factory. A classification scheme is developed as a basis for two cluster analyses that reveal researched and unexplored tasks and functions of the Aachen PPC model. Current approaches focus on the in-house PPC, particularly on the control using real-time information from the shop floor. Future research directions are proposed for the unexplored tasks and functions of the Aachen PPC model.}},

  abstract     = {{Technological progress, upcoming cyber-physical systems, and limited resources confront small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the challenge of complexity management in product development projects spanning over the entire product lifecycle. SMEs require a solution for documenting and analyzing the functional relationships between multiple domains such as products, software, and processes. The German research project FuPEP “Funktionsorientiertes Komplexitätsmanagement in allen Phasen der Produktentstehung” aims to address this issue by developing an assistance system that supports product developers by visualizing functional relationships. This paper presents the methodology and results of the assistance system’s requirements elicitation with two SMEs. Conducting the elicitation during a global pandemic, we discuss its application using specific techniques in light of COVID-19. We model problems and their effects regarding complexity management in product development in a system dynamics model. The most important requirements and use cases elicited are presented, and the requirements elicitation methodology and results are discussed. Additionally, we present a multilayer software architecture design of the assistance system. Our case study suggests a relationship between fear of a missing project focus among project participants and the restriction of requirements elicitation techniques to those possible via web conferencing tools.}},

  abstract     = {{The Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is a core element for Industrie 4.0. In addition, the security of industrial systems is a permanent topic that could be improved by the AAS and should have a high priority for future developments and implementations of the AAS. This paper evaluates the current threat landscape for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) communicating to the AAS, as well as for IT systems hosting the AAS. The relevance of these threats is evaluated for the AAS and the threats with the highest relevance, namely BasicWeb Application Attacks and Malware Infections, are analysed in detail. The recommended countermeasures for these threats are compared with the state of the art of AAS security concepts and result in missing countermeasures and research gaps for an overall security of the AAS.}},

The provision of smart services combined with product portfolios is advantageous because individual contexts of customers who use the products are addressed.   abstract     = {{The sharing economy provides short-term access to products without the risks associated with ownership. While extant research primarily examined it in the context of affluent consumer segments, the sharing economy may offer opportunities for consumers at the base of the economic pyramid, where ownership risks prevent access to products that could create societal benefits. Drawing from risk perception theory, we examine how access-based services, as an alternative to ownership, can mitigate perceived risk dimensions. An experimental study reveals that, in contrast to consumers with higher income, low-income consumers perceive access-based services to entail less financial risk, resulting in a greater inclination to access a good than to own it. In a second study, we explore these differences by comparing access with a risk mitigation strategy. We find that at the base of the pyramid, access is perceived to entail less financial risk than both ownership and ownership with a warranty. The results indicate the importance of the sharing economy for addressing the limited availability of resources for alleviating poverty. Based on our findings, we derive implications for consumers and service providers at the base of the pyramid, and discuss how the COVID-19 pandemic may be detrimental to the identified opportunities.}},

  abstract     = {{Increasing consumer engagement is a cornerstone of companies' social media efforts. However, how social media brand engagement behavior affects brand performance remains largely unexplored. We capture engagement along two dimensions - volume and variety - and measure brand performance using consumers' brand attachment, attitudes, and purchase intentions. Based on the power law of practice and combining survey measures with social media data, our analyses reveal a diminishing marginal utility of engagement volume, as the positive impact of engagement behavior on brand outcomes declines at higher engagement levels. However, the variation across performed activities attenuates these diminishing returns on engagement volume. We find consistent evidence for these effects across two studies with 1347 consumers who interacted with different brands. The results question companies' often unidimensional focus on increasing engagement volume. Instead, our findings suggest that to maximize brand performance on social media platforms, companies should also encourage engagement variety.}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:p> Over the past 25 years, the service–profit chain (SPC) has become a prominent guidepost for service managers and researchers. In this article, we reflect on and synthesize published research to clarify what researchers have learned about the SPC and what remains less well understood. Based on an in-depth discussion of the field, we present a revised SPC and propose multiple areas in which further research would be worthwhile, such as internal service quality as specific systems of human resource management practices, both employee and customer well-being as additional mediators, different targets of employee and customer loyalty, contingencies, and non-linear and feedback effects. We conclude by reimagining the SPC, and we discuss digital and artificial-intelligence–driven changes to the SPC’s structure. Finally, based on the insights we discuss, we inform scholars of the current state of SPC research and provide a detailed agenda for future research. </jats:p>}},

  abstract     = {{Additive manufacturing (AM) and rapid prototyping process (RPP) have revolutionized the production of 3D objects in the last few decades. RPP has considerably increased the rate of production and the possibility of manufacturing prototypes in the fields of electrical, optical, and mechanical engineering. The manufacturing of optical prototypes including spherical, aspheric, and special kinds of lenses and lens arrays has reformed the fabrication of optical components. In this paper, specifically designed lens array prototypes for application in visible light communication (VLC) are introduced. These lens array prototypes are manufactured using the stereolithography apparatus (SLA) process. These lens arrays are designed to achieve optimal transmission of the light beam for VLC systems. One of the prototypes from the lens arrays contains primarily four spherical lenses and one thicker convex lens and the other contains one fresnel lens as a substitute for thicker convex lens. These lens arrays are further post-processed to achieve the required transparency. These lens array prototypes are tested using laser and LEDs. The ON-OFF keying modulated light beam was transmitted through the lens array at the sender side and focused on the photo-receiver using another lens array at the receiver side which is 200 cm apart. After evaluating these lens prototypes, it can be concluded that with appropriate post-processing and high-resolution stereolithography based manufacturing, a low data rate VLC link can be formed.}},

  abstract     = {{Visible-light communication is a promising technology for industrial environments. However, a variety of physical effects may influence the communication quality in this potentially harsh environment: Dust and other particles lead to increased attenuation. Artificial light sources and industrial processes, such as grinding and welding, cause optical cross-talk. A multitude of reflective surfaces can lead to fading due to multi-path propagation. These three aspects are experimentally investigated in exemplary manufacturing processes at five different production sites in order to estimate the relative importance and their specific impact on VLC transmission in industrial areas. Spectral measurements demonstrate the presence of interfering light sources, which occupy broad parts of the visible spectrum. They give rise to flickering noise, which comprises a set of frequencies in the electrical domain. The impact of these effects on the communication is analysed with reference to the maximum achievable channel capacity and data rate approximation based on on-off keying is deduced. It is found that cross-talk by environmental and artificial light sources is one of the strongest effects, which influences the optical, but also the electrical spectrum. It is also observed that industrial areas differ strongly and must be categorised according to the manufacturing processes, which can induce quite a variation of dust and attenuation accordingly.}},

  abstract     = {{Visible light communication (VLC) allows the dual use of lighting and wireless communication systems by
modulation of illumination devices. However, to increase the performance, typically, beam-forming measures are
taken creating pencil beams, thus contradicting the illumination purpose. In order to optimize the performance
trade o between ecient illumination and communication, the switching capabilities of illumination LEDs are
examined. Illumination LEDs with standard drivers and without beam-forming show limited applicability for
communication purposes as they are not optimized for the necessary switching capability (f  11 MHz) and
coherence. Methods to enhance the electrical current by pre-equalisation, biasing, carrier sweeping and current
shaping are examined in respect to the illumination LED's communication performance. A novel driver scheme
is derived which achieves considerably higher switching frequencies (f  100 MHz) without employing beamforming
at the illumination LED. This driver is able to obtain a data rate of up to 200 Mbit/s at a distance of
3.2 m, using on-o keying (OOK) modulation technique. Therefore, it is feasible to apply the LED driver by
implementing standardised illumination devices in VLC systems.}},

Radio-frequency technologies are still predominant, but optical wireless communication (OWC) provides many advantages to fulfill the requirements of communication in industrial applications. A survey with industrial users consolidate a list with the most important demands for wireless communication within the field: The results reveal that the current heterogeneous requirements for wireless communication are valid, but highlight the need for license-free, robust and energy efficient wireless communication at rather moderate data rates. These requirements can be met by OWC, but its direct application in industrial environments is often hindered by the harsh conditions, with measurements inter alia indicating specific cross talk by light-emitting processes. In this article, these aspects are discussed one by one in order to obtain a clear perspective about the applicability, the main limitations and potential technologies for OWC and competing approaches in industrial areas.   abstract     = {{<jats:p>Product lifecycle management (PLM) as a holistic process encompasses the idea generation for a product, its conception, and its production, as well as its operating phase. Numerous tools and data models are used throughout this process. In recent years, industry and academia have developed integration concepts to realize efficient PLM across all domains and phases. However, the solutions available in practice need specific interfaces and tend to be vendor dependent. The Asset Administration Shell (AAS) aims to be a standardized digital representation of an asset (e.g., a product). In accordance with its objective, it has the potential to integrate all data generated during the PLM process into one data model and to provide a universally valid interface for all PLM phases. However, to date, there is no holistic concept that demonstrates this potential. The goal of this research work is to develop and validate such an AAS-based concept. This article demonstrates the application of the AAS in an order-controlled production process, including the semi-automatic generation of PLM-related AAS data. Furthermore, it discusses the potential of the AAS as a standard interface providing a smooth data integration throughout the PLM process.</jats:p>}},

The calves have an immature immune system as they lack immunoglobulins (Igs). Subsequently, the supply of good quality bovine colostrum is required. The quality of colostrum is classified by low bacterial counts and adequate Ig concentrations. Bacterial contamination can contain a variety of human pathogens or high counts of spoilage bacteria, which has become more challenging with the emerging use of bovine colostrum as food and food supplements. There is also a growing risk for the spread of zoonotic diseases originating from bovines. For this reason, processing based on heat treatment or other feasible techniques is required. This review provides an overview of literature on the microbial quality of bovine colostrum and processing methods to improve its microbial quality and keep its nutritional values as food. The highlights of this review are as follows: high quality colostrum is a valuable raw material in food products and supplements; the microbial safety of bovine colostrum is increased using an appropriate processing-suitable effective heat treatment which does not destroy the high nutrition value of colostrum; the heat treatment processes are cost-effective compared to other methods; and heat treatment can be performed in both small- and large-scale production.}},

  abstract     = {{For the manufacturing of complex biopharmaceuticals using bioreactors with cultivated mammalian cells, high product concentration is an important objective. The phenotype of the cells in a reactor plays an important role. Are clonal cell populations showing high cell-specific growth rates more favorable than cell lines with higher cell-specific productivities or vice versa? Five clonal Chinese hamster ovary cell populations were analyzed based on the data of a 3-month-stability study. We adapted a mechanistic cell culture model to the experimental data of one such clonally derived cell population. Uncertainties and prior knowledge concerning model parameters were considered using Bayesian parameter estimations. This model was used then to define an inoculum train protocol. Based on this, we subsequently simulated the impacts of differences in growth rates (±10%) and production rates (±10% and ±50%) on the overall cultivation time, including making the inoculum train cultures; the final production phase, the volumetric titer in that bioreactor and the ratio of both, defined as overall process productivity. We showed thus unequivocally that growth rates have a higher impact (up to three times) on overall process productivity and for product output per year, whereas cells with higher productivity can potentially generate higher product concentrations in the production vessel.}},

  abstract     = {{Bioprocess modeling has become a useful tool for prediction of the process future with the aim to deduce operating decisions (e.g. transfer or feeds). Due to variabilities, which often occur between and within batches, updating (re-estimation) of model parameters is required at certain time intervals (dynamic parameter estimation) to obtain reliable predictions. This can be challenging in the presence of low sampling frequencies (e.g. every 24 h), different consecutive scales and large measurement errors, as in the case of cell culture seed trains. This contribution presents an iterative learning workflow which generates and incorporates knowledge concerning cell growth during the process by using a moving horizon estimation (MHE) approach for updating of model parameters. This estimation technique is compared to a classical weighted least squares estimation (WLSE) approach in the context of model updating over three consecutive cultivation scales (40–2160 L) of an industrial cell culture seed train. Both techniques were investigated regarding robustness concerning the aforementioned challenges and the required amount of experimental data (estimation horizon). It is shown how the proposed MHE can deal with the aforementioned difficulties by the integration of prior knowledge, even if only data at two sampling points are available, outperforming the classical WLSE approach. This workflow allows to adequately integrate current process behavior into the model and can therefore be a suitable component of a digital twin.}},

  abstract     = {{Bioprocess development and optimization are still cost- and time-intensive due to the enormous number of experiments involved. In this study, the recently introduced model-assisted Design of Experiments (mDoE) concept (Möller et al. in Bioproc Biosyst Eng 42(5):867, https://doi.org/10.1007/s00449-019-02089-7, 2019) was extended and implemented into a software (“mDoE-toolbox”) to significantly reduce the number of required cultivations. The application of the toolbox is exemplary shown in two case studies with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In the first case study, a fed-batch process was optimized with respect to the pH value and linearly rising feeding rates of glucose and nitrogen source. Using the mDoE-toolbox, the biomass concentration was increased by 30% compared to previously performed experiments. The second case study was the whole-cell biocatalysis of ethyl acetoacetate (EAA) to (S)-ethyl-3-hydroxybutyrate (E3HB), for which the feeding rates of glucose, nitrogen source, and EAA were optimized. An increase of 80% compared to a previously performed experiment with similar initial conditions was achieved for the E3HB concentration.}},

By outlining critical aspects in developing gamified systems, we adapted the modelling technique event storming in the context of a special case study where a gamified, collaborative platform was developed. For this purpose, the relationship of event storming and spatial hypertext has been worked out and an event storming extension has been introduced based on spatial hypertext principles.   abstract     = {{Currently, numerous single-track railway lines are disused due to economic reasons. However, they could be reactivated for a bidirectional on-demand service traffic by small vehicles that use only one rail. MonoCabs are such small cabin-like vehicles, stabilized by a system of control moment gyroscopes and a moveable mass. They could make an important contribution to improve the mobility offer especially in rural areas. This paper is focused on the vertical stabilization system of the MonoCab. This system is discussed based on a physical three body model which describes the rolling motion of the vehicle, the lateral motion of the mass and the precession motion of the gyroscope. The model is utilized for a cascaded control concept adjusting the vehicle’s roll angle and gyroscope’s gimbal angle. The proposed stabilization concept is capable of compensating both high dynamic disturbances and stationary disturbances (e. g. unbalanced loads and steady wind flows). The concept is analyzed by simulations and experimental investigations utilizing a small scaled test rig and a rapid control prototyping system. Beside transient command responses also the frequency response of the system is experimentally evaluated and used for a validation of the model and theoretical findings.}},

  abstract     = {{Human Factors in Hypertext 2021 (HUMAN'21) is the 4th workshop in this series. It is sponsored by ACM SIGWEB and is associated to the ACM Conference on Hypertext and Social Media 2021, which took place between August 30th and September 2nd as a virtual event. HUMAN'21 took place on August 30th-the conference's workshop day.

This year's workshop is held in a difficult time: the global Corona pandemic makes attending meetings or traveling risky for our health. It almost seems as a contradiction to the 2019 ACM Hypertext motto "tear down the wall". However, today's digital media enables us to communicate over distance or even attend larger meetings online. This also opens the question about the role of hypertext as a medium for communication-a perfect topic match for the HUMAN workshop series, which has a user-centric focus on hypertext.

The user-centric view not only includes user interfaces and interaction, but also discussions about hypertext application domains. Furthermore, the workshop raises the question of how original hypertext ideas (e.g., Doug Engelbart's "augmenting human intellect" or Frank Halasz' "hypertext as a medium for thinking and communication") can improve today's hypertext systems. As such, the HUMAN workshop also appreciates previous work on hypertext systems. In order to support this, we invite researchers to give demos of vintage hypertext systems. Last year we started with Norman Meyrowitz presenting Intermedia; this year Mark Anderson has been invited to give a demo of Microcosm.}},

  abstract     = {{ynamic simulation models are widely utilized to evaluate complex technical components and systems like electric drives or machines. They can support the development process of a production machine by avoiding an inadequate layout of components or an erroneous control design. However, the effort for building them is often too high for this purpose (lot size one). An automated model generation can be utilized to overcome the gap between efforts and advantages of dynamic simulations.

This contribution presents an approach for simplifying the dynamic model generation of production machines by using the so-called Asset Administration Shell defined by the initiative Platform Industrie 4.0. The Asset Administration Shell was developed to aggregate all data necessary for maintaining the product across its life cycle. This includes component data and models as well as structural information about a machine. The generation process is performed by using the common FMI standard and a two-step procedure which allows the linkage of different simulation tools. The model generation is demonstrated by an example layout of a machine's internal direct current grid.}},

  abstract     = {{The dynamic emulation of mechanical loads is required in a variety of applications to test and validate control algorithms. Typical test setups consist of two mechanically coupled motors, one of which is the Device Under Test (DUT) while the other is used as a load drive for emulation. Existing emulation concepts either rely on the differentiation of velocity feedback or utilize measured quantities of the DUT. The emulation method proposed in this paper uses acceleration feedback to control the torque of the load drive. It does not require any measured quantities of the DUT which allows a simple replacement of the DUT’s motor and/or inverter without the need of any conceptual changes. Based on a physical model, the emulation method is derived analytically and analyzed numerically for the emulation of one-mass-systems. The stability and emulation quality is evaluated considering two controller architectures. Finally, experiments are conducted and compared to numeric simulations to test the correct emulation.}},

  abstract     = {{In this paper a highly efficient 5 kW three-phase power factor correction (PFC) converter used as an active infeed converter (AIC) for an industrial DC grid is addressed. The converter operates at 100 kHz and the nominal DC bus voltage is 650 V. The DC grid the AIC is designed for is a conductor system with distributed DC link capacitors and intelligent energy storages alongside the conductor. Due to the use of intelligent energy storages, which meet the energy demand when load transients occur, it is possible to optimize the AIC for a lower power to ensure maximum system efficiency. The design of the hardware and controller is described and measurements of characteristic currents and voltages, efficiency over the whole load range and controller responses on load transients are shown.}},
