text: Development and optimization of biopharmaceutical production processes with
cell cultures is cost- and time-consuming and often performed rather empirically.
Efficient optimization of multiple objectives such as process time, viable cell
density, number of operating steps & cultivation scales, required medium, amount
of product as well as product quality depicts a promising approach. This contribution
presents a workflow which couples uncertainty-based upstream simulation and Bayes
optimization using Gaussian processes. Its application is demonstrated in a simulation
case study for a relevant industrial task in process development, the design of
a robust cell culture expansion process (seed train), meaning that despite uncertainties
and variabilities concerning cell growth, low variations of viable cell density
during the seed train are obtained. Compared to a non-optimized reference seed
train, the optimized process showed much lower deviation rates regarding viable
cell densities (<10% instead of 41.7%) using five or four shake flask scales and
seed train duration could be reduced by 56 h from 576 h to 520 h. Overall, it
is shown that applying Bayes optimization allows for optimization of a multi-objective
optimization function with several optimizable input variables and under a considerable
amount of constraints with a low computational effort. This approach provides
the potential to be used in the form of a decision tool, e.g., for the choice
of an optimal and robust seed train design or for further optimization tasks within
    process development.

text: 'Today DC offers far-reaching advantages over AC. Therefore, many devices
have been equipped with an internal DC link for many years. In the field of energy
supply, the use of DC technology is also growing and is state of the art in offshore,
high-voltage, vehicle and data center applications. The spread of industrial open
DC grids is currently starting and is completely different due to the requirements:
The industrial DC grid is highly dynamic. This means that power varies greatly
over time and therefore there is a large amount of capacitance with little damping.
The paper describes possibilities of reduction and changing of DC link capacitors
from devices and the resulting influences on the lifetime for both electrolytic
    and film capacitors.'

text: The construction industry is one of the greatest sources of pollution, where
39% of global energy-related carbon emissions are attributed to buildings’ direct
and indirect emissions (UNEP-SBCI 2017). Facades have a high influence on energy
consumption during the building life cycle and, consequently, contribute to buildings'
CO2 equivalent emissions (CO2e). This paper examines the influence of varying
design parameters to enhance the environmental performance of stick curtain wall
systems. The environmental performance is determined by measuring the curtain
wall system's contribution to the building's operational energy consumption and
assessing its global warming potential throughout its whole life cycle. The curtain
wall contribution to building operational energy consumption in terms of heating
and cooling demands (kWh/year) was calculated through an energetic analysis using
EVEBI Pro software. A whole life cycle assessment (WLCA) from cradle to cradle
was carried out to define the global warming potential (KgCO2e) using OneClick
LCA software. The first design parameter is the glass type and thickness, including
the existing 56mm TGU and three other variants, 44mm TGU, 27mm DGU, and 24mm DGU.
The second design parameter is the profile material and system, including the
existing profile VISS 60 steel and two variants, FWS 60 aluminium and AOC 60 timber.
The results indicate that reducing the curtain wall glass thickness from 56mm
to 44mm would reduce the embodied carbon emissions almost by half and slightly
impact the operational energy consumption related to heating and cooling demands.
Also, using 27mm DGU instead of 24mm DGU would significantly reduce the curtain
wall’s WLCA. Regarding the other parameter, the comparison shows that the baseline
VISS 60 steel profile system has the lowest global warming potential, followed
by the AOC 60 timber and FWS 60 Alu systems.

In diesem
Beitrag wird die Ermittlung der Datengrundlage für dieses Modell vorgestellt.
Grundlage des Berechnungsmodells bilden Datensätze, mit denen die Gebäude der
Beispielkommune (Menden in Nordrhein-Westfalen) möglichst detailliert beschrieben

values of up to 600% at the trunk core, especially at the top of the palm trunk.
Kiln drying material with such low density, very high moisture content and high
sugar and starch content is difficult and often produces drying defects such as
cell collapse, cracks, and mold. Mechanical dewatering of wet oil palm lumber
in an unheated double roller press reduces the water content and generates sugar-containing
pressed water (sap) that could be used as a source for biochemicals. The share
of mechanically removed water varied from 1 to >54% of the total water removed
from wet to dry state (at 20 °C, 65% rh). Center boards from the top of the trunk
had the highest dewatering rates while boards from the periphery at the bottom
of the trunk (high density, low water content) showed the lowest.

text: Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based applications promise great potential benefits
for companies. However, an isolated consideration of the technical system is not
sufficient for the design. Rather, it is necessary to design the entire work system
taking into account the socio-technical system approach. This enables the combination
of the strengths of people and intelligent systems. This paper presents an approach
for a socio-technical requirements elicitation in the design of AI-based systems
by adapting the HTO-analysis. First, a mission statement is developed. Based on
a detailed process modelling, existing data and systems are recorded. In addition,
all relevant stakeholder groups are included by conducting interviews and surveys.
Thus, the procedure enables the derivation of a comprehensive catalogue of requirements.
The application of the approach is illustrated by using an example from industrial
practice, the design of an intelligent workforce planning system.

text: The feasibility of inline classification and characterization of seven fruit
juice varieties was investigated by the application of near-infrared spectroscopy
(NIRS) combined with chemometrics. The findings are intended to be used to optimize
the flash pasteurization of liquid foods. More precise information of the kind
of product in real time had to be achieved to enable a more product-specific process.
Using the method of partial least squares discriminant analysis, the fruit juice
varieties were classified, showing a classification rate of 100% regarding an
internal and 69% regarding an external test sets. A characterization by the extract
content, pH value, turbidity, and viscosity was made by fitting a partial least
squares regression model. The percentage prediction error of the pH value was
<3% for internal and external test sets, and for the Brix value prediction errors
were about 4% (internal) and 20% (external). The parameters viscosity and turbidity
were found to be unsuitable. Despite this, the strategy applied to gain more product-specific
information in real time showed to be feasible. By linking the results to a database
containing potentially harmful microorganisms for various types of fruit juices,
a more product-specific calculation of the necessary heat input can be performed.
To demonstrate the practical relevance, a comparison between conventional and
product-adapted process control was performed using two fruit varieties as examples
in case of Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris. Thus, with more accurate product
information, achieved through the use of NIRS with chemometrics, a more precise
calculation of the heat input can be achieved.

text: Eating disorders (EDs) are increasingly emerging as a health risk in men,
yet men remain underrepresented in ED research, including interventional trials.
This underrepresentation of men may have facilitated the development of women-centered
ED treatments that result in suboptimal outcomes for men. The present study retrospectively
compared pre- vs. post-treatment outcomes between age-, diagnosis-, and length-of-treatment-matched
samples of n = 200 men and n = 200 women with Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa
(BN), Binge Eating Disorder (BED), or Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified
(EDNOS), treated in the same setting during the same period, and using the same
measurements. Compared to women, men with AN showed marked improvements in weight
gains during treatment as well as in ED-specific cognitions and general psychopathology.
Likewise, men with BED showed marked weight loss during treatment compared to
women with BED; ED-specific cognitions and general psychopathology outcomes were
comparable in this case. For BN and EDNOS, weight, ED-specific cognitions, and
general psychopathology outcomes remained largely comparable between men and women.
    Implications for treatments are discussed.

text: The healthcare needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer, and intersex
(LGBTQI+) persons are often overlooked, prompting national and international calls
to include diversity-related competencies into medical students' training. However,
LGBTQI+-focused healthcare education targets remain elusive, as surveys reveal
considerable variability across national student populations. To generate empirical
data and vocalize recommendations for medical education, we conducted the first
nationwide online survey among 670 German medical students from 33 universities.
Overall, most respondents reported low confidence regarding their medical training
preparing them for LGBTQI+ patients, stated that LGBTQI+ themes were not covered
during training, and agreed that the inclusion of such themes is urgently needed.
In addition, we found gender and LGBTQI+ community member status to be key variables.
Men scored lower in knowledge than women, while community members scored higher
than non-community members. Similarly, community members reported higher comfort
levels. Non-community men showed the highest levels of prejudice and efficacy
beliefs, while at the same time had the lowest scores in contacts and the perceived
importance of LGBTQI+-related teaching. Keeping subgroup differences in mind,
we recommend that educational training should include LGBTQI+ healthcare aspects
and address self-efficacy beliefs in future medical professionals to overcome
    LGBTQI+ healthcare disparities.

text: Eating disorders (EDs) are often stereotyped as affecting the SWAG, that is,
as affecting mostly skinny, White, affluent girls. Over the last decade, however,
significant progress has been made toward increasing diversity in ED research.
There is consensus that EDs affect individuals of all genders, ages, sexual orientations,
ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, with recent studies exploring social determinants
of ED etiology, ED presentation, and developing diversity-affirming ED assessments.
This article provides a brief summary of current developments related to diversity
as a research theme, and proposes different perspectives toward further improving
diversity in ED research. Specifically, we argue for exploring the role of diversity
in ED treatment settings and outcomes, for pursuing diversity-oriented research
pro-actively rather than as a reaction to issues of under-representation, and
for integrating diversity across different areas of medical education and trainings
in psychotherapy. Limitations with respect to the paucity of research, and the
link between diversity as a research theme and ED-related workforce diversity
    are discussed.

text: Are social stress reactions dependent on the group identities of interaction
partners? This study explored the role of ethnic context in modulating endocrine
stress responses using a virtual reality (VR)-based adaptation of a standardized
stress induction protocol, the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST-VR). Previous research
found no clear link between endocrine stress response and ethnic context in the
TSST, but conclusions remain limited due to the quasi-experimental nature of manipulating
ethnic context in real-life face-to-face interactions. The VR adaptation of the
TSST circumvents quasi-experimental limitations and thus provides a first, randomized-controlled
investigation of the effects of ethnic context on endocrine stress responses.
Forty-three men participated in the study, facing either an ingroup ("White")
or an outgroup ("Arab") panel of interviewers. As expected, the TSST-VR produced
physiological and subjective stress reactions. However, endocrine stress reactions
occurred independent of interviewer ethnicity and could not be predicted based
on implicit bias, explicit prejudice, or prejudice-related appearance concerns.
Other physiological and subjective stress reactivity parameters also remained
comparable across intergroup conditions. Implications for stress research are
    discussed.

text: Social categorization is a crucial information processing strategy that adults
deliberately adjust depending on goals and situational requirements. This study
investigated whether flexibility in categorization is similarly present among
preschool children. More specifically, we tested whether spontaneous gender categorizations
are more pronounced for children with a situationally induced abstract compared
to concrete construal level mindset. Sixty-one children first participated in
a construal mindset induction task before completing a visual variant of the "who
said what" memory task. Systematic memory confusions indicated that all children
engaged in gender-based social categorization but that this tendency was accentuated
in the abstract compared to concrete mindset condition. These results suggest
an ability of children to modulate social categorizations. Implications for the
development of intergroup biases are discussed.

text: To drive forward a fundamental change in the construction sector to achieve
environmentally friendly progress in the construction processes, one promising
approach is the synchronous implementation of the three main drivers technology,
construction, and design. The key to this transformation is end-to-end digitalization.
Our approach aims to achieve a new architectural quality by linking digitized
design tools, ecological and environmentally friendly concepts, and serial production
processes. Against this background, two research projects were advanced to enable
adaptive prefabricated systems based on combined additive manufacturing. Two case
studies illustrate the research results. In the first, a digital assessment tool
is being developed to improve planning processes. With the tool, standardized
yet adaptive constructions can be evaluated according to their sustainability
impact in an early design phase. The second approach focuses on delivering a customized
material composition realized with additive manufacturing methods. In an automated
co-extrusion process, the dimensions and building-physical quality of story-high
wall panels (floor-to-ceiling) can be adapted to individual requirements. The
optimum balance of standardization vs individualized building solutions will introduce
a novel flexibility for the architectural design process as well as a higher production
efficiency. This strategy of individualized standardization is based on integrative
    collaboration and visionary research.
