Regarding everyday use, recent studies implemented successful techniques using banknote images taken by mobile phone cameras. One challenge in mobile banknote authentication is that it is impossible to collect images by all series/brands of mobile phones. In this study, classification models are implemented that are able to generalize to the samples from a wide number of mobile phone series even though they are trained with samples from a small group of series. Existing state-of-the-art banknote authentication approaches train a separate model per sub-image of a banknote, using the extracted features of that sub-image. A new approach that trains a single global model on the concatenated features of all the sub-images is presented. Furthermore, ensemble models that combine Linear Discriminant Analysis and Deep Neural Networks are employed in order to maximize the accuracy. Implemented techniques were able to reach up to F1-score of 0.99914 on a Euro banknote data set which contain images from 16 different mobile-phone series. This raises the need for new security engineering concepts that cover the increasing complexity and frequency of mandatory security risk assessments. In contrast, the current standardization landscape used for the assessment of these systems only offers abstract, static, manual, and resource-intensive procedures. Therefore, this work proposes a method that further specifies the IEC 62443 aiming to automate the security risk assessments in such a way that manual efforts can be reduced and a consistent quality can be achieved. The methodology is presented using network segmentation as a guiding example and consists of four main steps: Information collection based on a process analysis, information formalisation with a semi-formal model, information usage applying first order logic to extract expert knowledge, and information access using the concept of the digital twin. Thus, some skin protection creams (PC) claim to protect against this effect of occlusion, and are recommended to be used before wearing liquid‐proof gloves.ObjectivesTo evaluate the effect of PC applied prior to glove occlusion on the ‘occlusion effect’—refers to increased susceptibility of the skin to a model detergent.MethodsOne hundred and eleven volunteers were enrolled in a single‐blind, randomized study. Seven PCs were applied before glove occlusion over 7 days (D1–D7). After sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) challenge, we compared the irritation between the areas treated with PC and occlusion alone. Clinical scoring and bioengineering methods (capacitance, transepidermal water loss [TEWL], and colourimetry [erythema]) were used to quantify the irritant reactions.ResultsAfter 1 week of occlusion and PC application, we did not observe significant changes in TEWL, nor in erythema, whereas skin hydration raised in three cream‐treated areas. On day 10, after a challenge with SLS, some products significantly aggravated the skin irritation as compared to occlusion alone.ConclusionsThe ‘occlusion effect’—shown as higher skin susceptibility to a model detergent—was not mitigated by PCs when applied prior to glove occlusion. This editorial commemorates this historic occasion, tracing the journey from the inception of Africa-IALE initiatives in 2002 to the culmination of the World Congress held in Nairobi, Kenya, almost two decades later. Having previously graced Europe, Northern America, Australia, and Asia, the IALE World Congress embraced Africa, showcasing the global reach and inclusive spirit of landscape ecology. This editorial explores the evolution of Africa-IALE, highlighting the initiatives and the persistent efforts that led to the World Congress in Africa. We firstly delve into the socio-cultural and international significance of this shift, emphasising the unique perspectives and challenges faced by the African landscape ecology community. Secondly, we assess the participants involved in the 11th World IALE Congress, the topics discussed, current trends, and priorities within the global landscape ecology research community. To do so, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the conference proceedings. Lastly, we reflect on the impacts of this Congress. Green space planning aims to transform cities towards urban sustainability and resilience. In a longitudinal study, representatives from eleven European municipalities that had previously been interviewed in 2014 were re-interviewed in 2020–2021 on changes in urban greening and related practices. The interviewees reported mainly advancements in dealing with ecological issues, such as new plans, strategies, regulations or funding programmes for climate adaptation or biodiversity support, as well as some progress in co-governance with non-governmental stakeholders. Promising developments include breaking professional silos by creating new units that can better deal with complex urban issues. In a few cases, high-level local politicians induced profound changes. These changes stimulated the development of new planning and governance cultures, resulting in more co-creation of urban green spaces. However, from a transformation studies perspective, incremental strategies dominate, and even when municipal representatives are aware that substantive changes are needed, they often lack the means to act. Seropositivity is not necessarily associated with clinical disease. Data on seropositivity against Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in German horses are sparse. Therefore, serum samples from horses (n = 123) suspected of having Lyme borreliosis and clinically healthy horses (n = 113) from the same stables were tested for specific antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and Anaplasma phagocytophilum. The samples were screened for antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi (ELISA and an IgG line immunoblot assay). Furthermore, the samples were examined for antibodies against B. burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum with a validated rapid in-house test (SNAP® 4Dx Plus® ELISA). The clinical signs of suspect horses included lameness (n = 36), poor performance (n = 19), and apathy (n = 12). Twenty-three percent (n = 26) of suspect horses and 17% (n = 18) of clinically healthy horses were seropositive for having a Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato infection (p = 0.371), showing that the detection of specific antibodies against B. burgdorferi alone is not sufficient for a diagnosis of equine LB. Anaplasma phagocytophilum seropositivity and seropositivity against both pathogens was 20%/6% in suspect horses and 16%/2% in the clinically healthy population, showing only minor differences (p = 0.108). The secondary metabolites formed by this mold have been associated with health problems in humans and animals. Several authors have studied the influence of environmental conditions on the production of mycotoxins, but these studies focused on undefined or complex substrates, such as building materials and media that impeded investigations of the influence of specific nutrients. In this study, a chemically defined cultivation medium was used to investigate the impact of several nitrogen and carbon sources on growth of S. chartarum and its production of macrocyclic trichothecenes (MTs) and stachybotrylactam (STLAC). Increasing concentrations of sodium nitrate were found to positively affect mycelial growth, the level of sporulation, and MT production, while ammonium nitrate and ammonium chloride had an inhibitory effect. Potato starch was the superior and most reliable carbon source tested. Additionally, we observed that the level of sporulation was correlated with the production of MTs but not with that of STLAC. As climate change will lead to rising temperatures in the next years, we expect an increase in tick activity, tick population, and thus in the spread of TBD. Consequently, it has never been more critical to understand relationships within the microbial communities in ticks that might contribute to the tick’s fitness and the occurrence of TBD. Therefore, we analyzed the microbiota in different tick tissues such as midgut, salivary glands, and residual tick material, as well as the microbiota in complete Ixodes ricinus ticks using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. By using a newly developed DNA extraction protocol for tick tissue samples and a self-designed mock community, we were able to detect endosymbionts and pathogens that have been described in the literature previously. Climate factors might influence the fish’s bacterial community (BC) and thus increase embryo mortality. Yet, knowledge of the physiological BC during ontogeny in general is scarce. In this project, the BC of brown trout has been investigated in a period from unfertilized egg to 95 days post fertilization (dpf) using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. Developmental changes differed between early and late ontogeny and major differences in BC occurred especially during early developmental stages. Thus, analysis was conducted separately for 0 to 67 dpf and from 67 to 95 dpf. All analyzed stages were sampled in toto to avoid bias due to different sampling methods in different developmental stages. The most abundant phylum in the BC of all developmental stages was Pseudomonadota, while only two families (Comamonadaceae and Moraxellaceae) occurred in all developmental stages. The early developmental stages until 67 dpf displayed greater shifts in their BC regarding bacterial richness, microbial diversity, and taxonomic composition. Thereafter, in the fry stages, the BC seemed to stabilize and changes were moderate. To address this gap, we present ”KIAAA” an AI Assistant for Automation Engineering Teaching, a work-in-progress approach for an integrated, customized, and AI-based learning support system for automation and programming courses based on instructor-defined course objectives. Thereby in the KIAAA system, the individual knowledge level of the students is determined and individually tailored virtual learning scenarios are generated based on the knowledge and learning profile of the students. These are iteratively adapted based on the answers given. To achieve this, KIAAA uses several AI components, a hybrid rule-based scenario generation component, a Help-DKT-based cognitive model, and a solution assessor that uses a combination of traditional code analysis methods and AI-based analyses methods for automated programming task assessment. For this purpose, 627 contaminated pig carcasses in an industrial slaughterhouse in north western Germany were examined in 2021 for its distribution of type, areal extent and localization of slaughter contamination. Prior to official meat inspection, two persons visually scanned dorsal and ventral surfaces of the eviscerated but not yet split pig carcasses from cranial to caudal and recorded types, areal extent and localization of the contamination. The main contamination type were intestinal contents, bile, stomach contents, tubular rail fat and “others”, which mostly consisted of a reddish foam from the respiratory tract. 103 out of 627 contaminated animals showed more than one contamination, which leads to a total number of 754 contaminations detected. Intestinal contents accounted for almost half of all contaminations and “others” for 30%. Forelimb, back and ham together counted for 70% of the contaminated regions. Realizing these issues, we developed PRIGSHARE (Preferred Reporting Items in Greenspace Health Research). It is accompanied by an open-source script that supports non-spatial disciplines in assessing greenness and green space on different scales and types. The PRIGSHARE checklist contains 21 items that have been identified as a risk of bias and are necessary for understanding and comparison of studies. The checklist is divided into the following topics: objectives (3 items), scope (3 items), spatial assessment (7 items), vegetation assessment (4 items), and context assessment (4 items). For each item, we include a pathway-specific (if relevant) rationale and explanation. To address this issue, we developed AID-PRIGSHARE, an open-source script that automates over 400 QGIS processes to substantially reduces the time-intensive task of generating green space indicators. AID-PRIGSHARE calculatesgreenness, green space amount, access to green infrastructure, and green space uses within distances of 100–1500 m around geolocations. This transformation of our daily living environments can also impact the prevalence of non-communicable diseases as a global disease burden of our time. These positive impacts of horizontal green spaces on human health are widely recognized. However, it is still unclear whether the same is true for green walls, as a promising nature-based solution for dense urban spaces which is increasingly applied. To date, the available research on green walls has not been systematically synthesized along the potential impact pathways of reducing environmental stressors (Mitigation), restoring capacities (Restoration), and promoting healthier behavior (Instoration). We conducted a systematic review of 30 reviews to synthesize available evidence on all three pathways and direct health outcomes, following the established strategies of PICOS and PRISMA. We assessed the review quality through AMSTAR. We found strong consistent evidence that green walls can mitigate urban heat island effects (daylight surface temperature: -0.3 °C to -31.9°, daylight air temperature: -0 °C to -8.7 °C), air pollution (PM2.5: -25% to -99%, PM10: -23% to -60%), and noise pollution (sound pressure level: -1dBA to -5dBA). We found some evidence for disaster risk reduction and restoration effects. There were no reviews on the instoration pathway or direct health outcomes. The underlying reviews rated low according to the AMSTAR checklist, which might limit our findings. Simulation games are active learning methods that simulate real systems in an artificial environment. The goal is to give employees the opportunity to gain experience and make decisions without creating a pressure situation or endangering the real production system. This enables them to better understand, evaluate and design real systems. In order to make optimal use of simulation games in manufacturing companies, they should be customized to the company and its employees due to individual processes and structures. This paper fills this gap and translates the regulatory requirements from the context of German railways for the AI developer community. As a result, tasks such as train’s path monitoring for collision prediction, signal detection, door operation, etc. are identified. Based on this analysis, a functionally justified sensor setup with detailed configuration requirements is presented. This setup was also evaluated by a survey within the railway industry. The evaluated sensors include RGB/IR cameras, LIDARs, radars and ultrasonic sensors. Calculations and estimates for the evaluated sensors are presented graphically and included in this paper. However, the ultimate sensor setup is still a subject of research. The results of this paper also address the lack of training and test datasets for railway AI systems. It is proposed to acquire research datasets that will allow the training of domain adaptation algorithms to transform other datasets, thus increasing the number of available datasets. Ventilation dilutes contaminants such as bioeffluents generated by occupants, substances emitted from building materials, and the water vapor generated by occupants’ activities. In a building that requires heating and cooling, adequate ventilation is crucial to minimize energy consumption while maintaining healthy indoor air quality. However, measuring the actual magnitude of the natural ventilation rate, including infiltration through the building envelope and airflow through the building openings, is not always feasible. Although international and national standards suggested the required ventilation rates to maintain acceptable indoor air quality in buildings, they did not offer action plans to achieve or evaluate those design ventilation rates in buildings in use. In this study, the occupant-generated carbon dioxide (CO2) tracer gas decay method was applied to estimate the ventilation rates in an office room in Seoul, South Korea, from summer to winter. Using the method, real-time ventilation rates can be calculated by monitoring indoor and outdoor CO2 concentrations without injecting a tracer gas. For natural ventilation in the test room, 145 mm-diameter circular openings on the fixed glass were used. As a result, first, the indoor CO2 concentrations were used as an indicator to evaluate how much the indoor air quality deteriorated when all the windows were closed in an occupied office room compared to the international standards for indoor air quality. Moreover, we found out that the estimated ventilation rates varied depending on various environmental conditions, even with the same openings for natural ventilation. Considering the indoor and outdoor temperature differences and outdoor wind speeds as the main factors influencing the ventilation rates, we analyzed how they affected the ventilation rates in the different seasons of South Korea. When the wind speeds were calm, less than 2 m/s, the temperature difference played as a factor that influenced the estimated ventilation rates. On the other hand, when the temperature differences were low, less than 3 °C, the wind speed was the primary factor. This study raises awareness about the risk of poor indoor air quality in office rooms that could lead to health problems or unpleasant working environments. This study presents an example of estimating the ventilation rates in an existing building. In Wohn- und Nichtwohngebäuden findet er als Putz, Bauplatte oder gestalterisches Element in Form von Stampflehm oder Lehmsteinen zunehmend Verwendung. Da es wenige gesicherte Messwerte zu den Schallabsorptionseigenschaften von Lehmoberflächen gibt, wurden im Rahmen des DBU-geförderten Forschungsprojektes ECOsights die frequenzabhängigen Schallabsorptionsgrade einer klassischen Stampflehmwand sowie einer mit lehmverputzter Oberfläche mit dem Hallraum-Verfahren nach EN ISO 354 messtechnisch ermittelt. Außerdem wurde eine Versuchsreihe mit Messungen mit dem Impedanzrohr (Kundtsches Rohr) nach DIN EN ISO 10534-1 mit Stampflehm durchgeführt. Dabei wurden neben dem Absorptionsgrad auch die Gewichtsabnahme und die Veränderung der Oberflächenstruktur der Proben erfasst. There are already various approaches to improve this conventionally managed process step in terms of product and resource preservation. Compared to these novel technologies, the use of real-time process analytics offers great potential to improve already existing process plants by implementing inline capable process analytical tools. This allows direct control of the reactions taking place and changes during the running process. Instead of post process, random product control, quality control during the process can be made rendered. The chemical and pharmaceutical industry serves as a reference industry for the use of process analytical tools, although the reactions and product matrices are less complex. In the food industry, on the other hand, there is a greater variation in raw materials and intermediate products. In addition, a large number of reactions can take place in parallel within a process, and the physical states and properties of the individual components can vary. A uniform set of rules for the use of process analytical tools does not exist here. Each product, each process provides its own research potential, so that a large research gap opens up in the area of the food industry.\r\nIn order to contribute to closing this gap, this thesis presents a novel approach to improve the process of pasteurization of liquid food. For fruit juices as an application, near infrared spectroscopy in combination with chemometric methods was applied to make the process more product specific. Based on known weaknesses of the process, the relevant aspects for a product-specific treatment were identified. In the further course, the suitability of near infrared spectroscopy as a process analytical tool in the process of pasteurization was verified. Moreover, it was investigated whether a sufficiently accurate identification of the product type as well as the microbiologically relevant properties can be achieved by the application of chemometric methods. In the course of this, the suitability of the measurement methodology was confirmed and solutions were established for any process influences. The product classification and description of the microbiologically relevant parameters extract content and pH value were also implemented with sufficient accuracy. Knowing the destruction kinetics of relevant microorganisms, the product-specific determination of target values for the necessary lethal heat input could be realized. In addition, an analysis of the actual values was carried out on the basis of a chemometric regression method by inferring the microbiological pasteurization effect through the chemical reaction of acid hydrolytic sucrose degradation by means of the indirect approach. This required knowledge of the chemical reaction kinetics and mahematical modeling of the degradation behavior. The novel approach could be confirmed by calculations using results from off-line analysis, whereas the use of near infrared spectroscopy as an inline method still revealed potential for optimization with respect to measurement accuracies.\r\nIn summary, the results of this work provide a promising opportunity to make conventional processes for the preservation of liquid foods more product-specific by using near-infrared spectroscopy as an inline-capable and multimodal sensor technique, leading to an increase in process efficiency and product quality."},{"text":"Der Prozess der thermischen Haltbarmachung von flüssigen Lebensmitteln ist ein sicherheitsrelevanter Prozessschritt in der Verarbeitung von Produkten wie Fruchtsäften und ist mit einem hohen energetischen Aufwand und Sicherheitszuschlag verbunden. Um diesen konventionell geführten Prozessschritt hinsichtlich Produkt- und Ressourcenschonung zu optimieren, gibt es bereits verschiedene Ansätze. Im Vergleich zu neuartigen Technologien bietet der Einsatz von Echtzeit-Prozessanalytik großes Potential bereits bestehende Prozessanlagen durch die Implementierung inlinefähiger Prozessanalysetools zu verbessern. Dies ermöglicht eine Kontrolle ablaufender Reaktionen im laufenden Prozess. Anstelle nachgelagerter, stichprobenartiger Produktkontrolle kann eine Qualitätslenkung im Prozess erfolgen. Vorbildindustrie bezüglich des Einsatzes von Prozessanalysetools ist die pharmazeutische Industrie, wo Reaktionen und Produktmatrices allerdings weniger komplex sind. In der Lebensmittelindustrie gibt es eine größere Schwankungsbreite der Rohstoffe und Zwischenprodukte. Zudem können innerhalb eines Prozesses eine Vielzahl an Reaktionen parallel ablaufen und die Zustandsformen und Eigenschaften der einzelnen Komponenten variieren. Ein einheitliches Regelwerk zum Einsatz der Prozessanalysetools existiert nicht. Jedes Produkt, jeder Prozess liefert eigenes Forschungspotential, sodass sich im Bereich der Lebensmittelindustrie eine große Forschungslücke auftut.\r\nUm einen Beitrag zur Schließung dieser Lücke zu leisten, zeigt diese Arbeit einen neuartigen Lösungsansatz auf, um den Prozess der Pasteurisation flüssiger Lebensmittel zu verbessern. Am Anwendungsfall von Fruchtsäften wurde der Einsatz von Nahinfrarotspektroskopie in Kombination mit chemometrischen Methoden genutzt, um den Prozess produktspezifischer zu gestalten. Ausgehend von bekannten Schwachstellen des Prozesses wurden die relevanten Aspekte identifiziert, deren Kenntnis für eine produktspezifische Behandlung relevant sind. Angefangen mit der Überprüfung der Eignung von Nahinfrarotspektroskopie als Prozessanalysetool im Prozess der Pasteurisation, wurde untersucht, ob eine Identifikation des Produkttyps sowie der mikrobiologisch relevanten Eigenschaften durch die Anwendung chemometrischer Methoden erfolgen kann. In diesem Zuge konnte eine Eignung der Messmethodik bestätigt werden und für etwaige Prozesseinflüsse Lösungsansätze etabliert werden. Auch die Produktklassifizierung und Beschreibung der mikrobiologisch relevanten Parameter Extraktgehalt und pH-Wert wurden hinreichend genau umgesetzt. Unter Kenntnis der Abtötungskinetiken entsprechend relevanter Mikroorganismen konnte die produktspezifische Ermittlung für Sollwerte des notwendigen letalen Hitzeeintrags realisiert werden. Im Weiteren wurde eine Analyse der Ist-Werte auf Basis einer chemometrischen Regressionsmethode durchgeführt, indem mittels des indirekten Ansatzes über die chemische Reaktion der säurehydrolytischen Saccharosedegradation auf den mikrobiologischen Pasteurisationseffekt geschlossen wurde. Dazu war die Kenntnis der chemischen Reaktionskinetik notwendig und die mathematische Modellierung des Abbauverhaltens. Der neuartige Ansatz konnte mittels Berechnungen unter Verwendung von Ergebnissen der Offline-Analytik bestätigt werden. Here, we developed and validated the State Urge to be Physically Active-Questionnaire (SUPA-Q). MethodsAfter developing and piloting the items, N = 126 patients with EDs (mostly anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa) took part in our mixed-longitudinal validation study with one primary assessment for all patients and a secondary assessment for a subsample of patients. Cronbach's & alpha; and split-half-methods served as measures of consistency and reliability. Correlations with other questionnaires were used to determine convergent and divergent validity, and confirmatory factor analysis was used for investigating factorial validity. We used paired-samples t-tests for repeated assessments to investigate change sensitivity. ResultsWe found the SUPA-Q to be highly consistent, and reliable and to demonstrate convergent, divergent, and factorial validity. The comparison of SUPA-Q scores from repeated assessments within a subsample of patients demonstrated the questionnaire's change sensitivity, Cohen's d = 0.48. Moreover, an increase in SUPA-Q scores was associated with a less positive mood, more anxiety, more body dissatisfaction, more tenseness, less feelings of control, and more stress. DiscussionThe newly developed SUPA-Q may help to accentuate the necessity to evaluate and address the acute urge to engage in physical activity in patients with EDs in clinical practice and ultimately support tailoring treatments to patients' unique symptom patterns. At the same time, differences between men and women with EDs remain poorly explored. MethodsIn this study, we compared 104 men to 104 diagnosis-matched women with EDs regarding sociodemographic and clinical features. Using latent class mixture modelling, we identified four distinct patient subgroups based on their sociodemographic features. ResultsMen with EDs had significantly higher odds than women to belong to a \"single-childfree-working\" class. Moreover, while there were few overall differences in ED-related symptoms and general psychopathology between men and women, single-childfree-working men with EDs presented with higher general psychopathology symptoms than men in the other classes. Qualitative reports indicate that organ recipients develop donor and donation images (DDI)—conceptions of the donor and/or the organ. A deeper understanding of DDI is needed in the care of transplant recipients. To present the current state of knowledge, we searched for and identified DDI-related publications in PubMed and Scopus. Inclusion criteria were (1) studies addressing transplant recipients, and (2) English or German language. Twenty-one studies of individuals with transplanted hearts, lungs, or kidneys were included in this scoping review. Prevalence for DDI ranged from 6% to 52.3%. DDI occurs both before and after transplantation and includes ideas about the donor as well as whether and how the recipient’s personality may be altered by the transplanted organ. Some transplant recipients did indeed report personality changes following transplantation due to the adoption of assumed donor characteristics. One study showed a positive association between the presence of DDI and anxiety scores and one described a coping effect. DDI is understudied and should be systematically assessed to improve care for the vulnerable group of individuals undergoing organ transplantation. This study aimed to examine the factor structure of the German EDE-Q in a clinical group of adult men with diagnosed ED.\r\nMethods\r\nED symptoms were assessed using the validated German version of the EDE-Q. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) using principal-axis factoring based on polychoric correlations was conducted for the full sample (N = 188) using Varimax-Rotation with Kaiser-Normalization.\r\nResults\r\nHorn’s parallel analysis suggested a five-factor solution with an explained variance of 68%. The EFA factors were labeled “Restraint” (items 1, 3–6), “Body Dissatisfaction” (items 25–28), “Weight Concern” (items 10–12, 20), “Preoccupation” (items 7 and 8), and “Importance” (items 22 and 23). Items 2, 9, 19, 21, and 24 were excluded due to low communalities.\r\nConclusions\r\nFactors associated with body concerns and body dissatisfaction in adult men with ED are not fully represented in the EDE-Q. This could be due to differences in body ideals in men, e.g., the underestimation of the role of concerns about musculature. At the same time, gender-related differences have rarely been explored, raising the question whether men and women with OB and OB + BED may require differently tailored treatments.Method: We retrospectively compared pre- versus post-treatment data in a matched sample of n = 180 men and n = 180 women with OB or OB + BED who received inpatient treatment.Results: We found that men displayed higher weight loss than women independent of diagnostic group.
