Civil Engineering Department Portrait

The Civil Engineering Department at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Ostwestfalen-Lippe offers two Master's degree programmes "Structural Engineering and Digital Construction Processes" and "Infrastructure Management – Water and Transport Engineering"  in addition to the undergraduate Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering which can also be studied on a dual basis. All three study programmes were accredited in 2020 and the restructured Bachelor's degree programme was re-accredited. The standard period of study for the Bachelor's degree is seven semesters and nine semesters for the dual programme. The Master's programmes are three semesters.

The historic, listed buildings of the former Emilien Barracks provide the study location for approximately 550 students along with 14 professors and 16 research staff who are responsible for comprehensive teaching and student support. With this, an optimal ratio of teachers to students is ensured which means that the department offers students a very personal working atmosphere.

A modern laboratory building (baulab3) provides the basis for a diverse exchange between practice and research and the central facilities for the entire campus, the library and the canteen are located in a further modern building.

As a matter of pride, the teachers and students of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Ostwestfalen-Lippe were also involved in the planning of the campus. The winning student design, with the participation of the Civil Engineering and Architecture departments, was successfully implemented.
