Development and design

In order to exploit the full potential of direct digital manufacturing, it is necessary to design products specifically for direct manufacturing processes. By the substantial elimination of the limitations caused by the manufacturing process, it is possible to realize components which are designed to be fully load and stress resistant, which is feasible through topology optimization methods. The process-oriented design uses the possibilities of creating internal structures, designing free-form surfaces, and producing components with undercuts or direction-dependent properties. The laboratory of development and design studies and develops general guidelines of proper design for direct digital manufacturing.
