A highly innovative element is the development of people in the digital factory. The human´s integrated role as a product developer, manufacturing expert, and know-how carrier requires the training of new areas of expertise in order to meet the numerous requirements. Additionally, ergonomic design rules and psychological stress limits must be taken into account when designing the direct digital manufacturing processes. Therefore, an important concern of the research area is to develop needs-oriented training concepts for all process participants, to support industrial enterprises in the introduction of new organizational structures, and to adapt technical systems to the requirements of the human.
