Engineers who take on managerial positions at the interfaces between mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology and who are able to drive the development of intelligent, self-controlling systems are increasingly in demand in industry and science. Our master's program addresses this need.
In order to prepare students optimally for interface activities, they are intensively familiarized with methods of system development. In particular, knowledge about the development and use of drives, actuators and micromechanical systems is intensified. Modules such as " „Projekt- und Qualitätsmanagement“ (“Project and Quality Management”) und „Innovation and Development Strategies" complete the course of studies and prepare for leadership tasks.
In accordance with the idea of interface work, the degree course includes contents of the disciplines electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science. In addition to imparting theoretical-analytical skills and guidance on scientific work and methodology, students are taught interdisciplinary and team-oriented thinking and acting as well as project management and leadership skills. The master's program builds on bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or mechatronics (or comparable degrees).
The master’s program “Mechatronische Systeme” paves the way for a career in industry or research. Graduates can take on demanding positions in areas of development and support. Fields of activity include the development of components and microsystems in robotics, automotive engineering, the control and regulation of plants and processes, machine tool construction and drive technology.

- Variable professional fields in Germany and abroad in almost all industrial sectors, such as automation technology, automotive engineering, machine tool construction, plant construction, drive technology, power engineering, traffic engineering, medical technology and production technology
Fachhochschulreife/Allgemeine Hochschulreife i.e. an entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences or at universities] or an equivalent qualification.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering or another closely related field of study.
Evidence of a final German examination grade of 2.5 or better. If this overall grade is not achieved, the aptitude can be determined by the Admission Committee if the overall picture of the application meets the expectations of a technically successful study performance in this master’s program. For this purpose, a personal interview with the Admission Committee takes place.
The standard period of study is four semesters. In the first semester, students acquire mathematical, scientific and subject-specific basic knowledge. In addition, they acquire key competences in management and get acquainted with the basics of scientific work. In the second semester, all students get familiar with the design of mechatronic systems as well as with innovation and development strategies. In four elective subjects, they also have an opportunity for individual profiling. In the third semester, the students acquire knowledge and experience in the implementation of research projects in the module “Forschungsprojekt” (“Research Project”). This project also prepares them for the master’s thesis
