General Engineering

At OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts, we are thrilled to offer an exceptional bilingual eight semester Bachelor's program with an holistic approach to engineering. You will gain both, technical skills and practical experience, working together in projects and teams. With a strong foundation in essential engineering and a speciailization in one of our nine engineering programs. we prepare you to face the challenges of 21st century.

A Degree Program with a Future

Type of Study

This study bilingual program will be taught in English for the first three semesters. You will study modules of all STEM disciplines to examine the field of engineering in an interdisciplinary and praxis-oriented context - next to German classes. You discover the professional fields of engineering in a project-oriented way of work in teams. In the third semester you choose an engineering specialization from a range of ten engineering fields. In a work placement in the fourth semester you join one of OWL's leading companies to gain professional praxis and improve your German. In the fifth semester you will continue your specialization in German together with students from the German engineering programs.

Admission

You will bring one of the following educational backgrounds:

  • General university entrance qualification (Abitur)
  • Specialized university entrance qualification
  • Advanced technical college certificate (Fachhochschulreife)

In addition:

  • Proven knowledge of good English (level B2)
  • Proven knowledge of German (level A1)
  • Proof of knowledge of German must be provided at the latest at the time of enrollment.

Due to our holistic approach to engineering, you will have ample possibilities to work - beyond a single discipline - all within the field of engineering. By choosing one of our nine specializations you focus to work as a mechanical or electrical engineer, wood technologist or food technologist - but you will be well equipped for interdisciplinary tasks and positions. We are happy to partner with respected and world leading companies like Phoenix Contact and Weidmüller in the electrical sector, Schüco International and Miele in the mechanical field, or Dr. Oetker in the food sector. Cooperation With Companies

At our Innovation Campus Lemgo (ICL), you will be part of a vibrant international community, surrounded by approachable professors who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and collaborating on real-world projects with companies in the region and nationwide. After your study integrated work placement in the fourth semester, you will be able to continue as a student trainee in various companies or in research projects on campus.

Research in the Department

You will have access to the latest technologies in cooperation with our research facilities such as Future Food Factory OWL, SmartFactoryOWL (in cooperation with Fraunhofer-Institut IOSB-INA) and Centrum industrial IT (CiIT, Science-to-Business Center). In close collaboration with one of the six research institutes at our university in the field of IT, Life Science, Energy or Science in Dialogue you gain insights into cutting-edge research.

Studying at Innovation Campus Lemgo

Our Innovation Campus in Lemgo

At the Innovation Campus in Lemgo, you will study at one of the most exciting technology locations in NRW. Here you will find state-of-the-art laboratories and teaching rooms as well as science-to-business factories. For example, the Centrum Industrial IT, in which companies from all over East Westphalia-Lippe (OWL) have their branches. Or the Smart Factory OWL, which showcases data and AI management. In the Future Food Factory OWL, which is unique in Europe, something similar is happening in relation to food production. New work and transfer meet at InnovationSPIN. Here, TH OWL, the district administration and the skilled trades demonstrate transparent cooperation and a spirit that allows new things to emerge. In addition to Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the campus is also home to two vocational schools and the national handball league team TBV Lemgo-Lippe. And best of all, the campus also has student residence halls with short distances to the university and the city.
