This program focuses on the development and use of machines and systems in which mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronics and data processing work together.
The focus of this interdisciplinary degree program is on transmitting sound fundamental knowledge in all of these areas, alongside required working methods. The program deals with examples of product-specific applications. In addition, the degree program also teaches students how to “think like an engineer” and how to quickly and efficiently become familiar with a new work area.
Graduates can analyze complex physical and technical contexts and use mathematical and technical fundamentals of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer sciences to describe, model, and simulate these contexts. This enables them to help develop mechatronic systems.
Program graduates will also be qualified to enter into a Master’s program.
Students must have an advanced technical college certificate, general higher education entrance qualification, or equivalent recognized qualification to be admitted to the program.

The program begins by teaching fundamental mathematical and natural sciences and engineering expertise. Then, students can select their own focus area depending on their specific interests. The program also includes non-technical subject areas as well. Accompanying internships are completed in small groups at the university's laboratories, and are a key part of the degree. Finally, students complete a research project and a Bachelor’s thesis to implement what they have learned in practice in a regional company or university laboratory. The degree program uses a modular structure, and modules are reviewed frequently.
A ten-week internship must be completed by the end of the fourth semester. Appropriate technical training may be completed in place of the internship.
