Technische Informatik [Computer Engineering]
Social and economic life is more and more shaped by information and communication technology. Alongside an increasing distribution of intelligent systems, we also experience a growing demand for computer engineers. The study of computer engineering is highly up to date. Graduates thus have the best career prospects in industry and science.
Computer science achievements accompany us everywhere in our everyday lives: Embedded real-time systems enable networked manufacturing processes in industry and help to save energy. Human-machine interfaces improve the usability of complex technical systems. Real and online world grow together.
The basic- and method-oriented degree course “Technische Informatik” combines knowledge from electrical and computer engineering. Our graduates are needed wherever interfaces between hardware and software exist. This includes, for example, onboard diagnostics in automobiles, infotainment and communication technology or process control as well as quality control in manufacturing processes. In all these areas, the products are based on the combination of software systems and hardware platforms in so-called embedded systems. In this degree program, knowledge from both areas is discussed in order to understand and analyze their interactions.
The bachelor’s degree program “Technische Informatik” is also offered as a cooperative training program (in German, “Duales Studium”).
Graduates are qualified for activities in the field of problem solving. This includes the ability to work in a team and to present work results convincingly. It also includes the capacity for independent work, creativity and abstract thinking alongside the ability to master the English language.
Fachhochschulreife/Allgemeine Hochschulreife (an entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences or at universities) or an equivalent qualification.

The degree program has a standard duration of six semesters and is divided into basic and advanced courses. From the fourth semester onwards, the compulsory courses are complemented by compulsory optional courses.
The bachelor’s thesis is written during the sixth semester.
