How can automated rail operations be implemented safely, reliably, and in a practical manner in the future? What technologies are required for this—and how can rolling stock, infrastructure, and operations be integrated into a high-performance system?

The DZM Symposium 2026 offers insights into the research conducted and results achieved to date by the enableATO project and provides a forum for further scientific exchange.

Researchers from the projects, from DZMcampuses, and from related research fields are invited to learn about current work and findings, discuss research questions collaboratively, and develop new perspectives on the automation of rail operations.

The focus will be on various components and challenges of automated driving—ranging from the fundamentals and requirements of ATO, through the perception of the vehicle, its interior, and the surrounding environment, to the integration of vehicle and infrastructure, simulation, control, condition monitoring, and testing.

The presentations will provide insights into current research and approaches. A poster session will also offer the opportunity to present additional research topics and engage in conversation with one another. The event will conclude with a get-together, providing space for specialization in discussion and networking.
