Then as now, the novel *The Gambler* is considered highly relevant. The 1866 novel deals with two fateful passions: gambling and an ill-fated love.
While the first-person narrator, Alexei Ivanovich, is drawn to the stepdaughter of his employer, a Russian general, he becomes entangled in social tensions as a result of his gambling addiction.
With this novel, written in just four weeks, the author Fyodor Dostoevsky addressed his own debt and addiction to gambling. Anyone interested in literature who
has read the entire book is welcome to participate.
