Partial Solar Eclipse: Experimental Presentation and Group Observation

On Wednesday, August 12, a fascinating natural phenomenon will be visible over Lemgo: The TH OWL Observatory will host a public event to mark the partial solar eclipse.

Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend an exciting experimental lecture and observe the “SoFi” together—free of charge and without registration. 

At 5:30 p.m., an open lecture will begin in the Audimax at TH OWL, located in the main building on the Innovation Campus Lemgo, during which the observatory team will explain the scientific principles behind solar eclipses—illustrated with experiments. 

The lecture will end around 6:45 p.m., after which we’ll head to the observation site following a short break. 

At 7:00 p.m., the observation will begin on a balcony of InnovationSPIN. The partial solar eclipse itself will begin at 7:16 p.m. The maximum phase, with approximately 87 percent coverage, will be reached at 8:10 p.m. 

Before the sun sets around 9:00 p.m., guests can safely observe the event using the telescopes, special solar binoculars, and solar eclipse glasses provided. A livestream from Spain, where the total solar eclipse is visible, will also be shown in the foyer.
