Doctoral studies at TH OWL
Currently, more than 70 academic staff and industry partners are working on their doctoral studies at (TH) OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts – and the trend is rising. They are developing innovative solutions in collaboration with industry and research partners from other universities.
Graduate Center OWL
The Graduiertenzentrum.OWL at TH OWL supports doctoral students throughout their doctoral studies as a central point of contact for advice, qualification, and networking. In addition to individual counseling, the center offers continuing education courses, workshops, and lecture series that aid in professional and interdisciplinary development. At the same time, the graduate center brings together researchers from different disciplines and creates space for exchange and cooperation. A transparent quality assurance system also ensures that doctoral projects meet the international scientific standards of the respective subject areas.
Paths to doctoral studies
TH OWL is a member of the NRW Doctoral College. This opens up two different paths to a doctorate: On the one hand, there is the option of a doctorate through the NRW Doctoral College, which has the right to award doctorates. On the other hand, there is also the option of a cooperative doctorate with a university. Both paths have their advantages and suit the different needs and research focuses of doctoral candidates. Cooperation with industry
Scientific expertise is an important driver of innovation in the economy. Doctoral programs can bridge the gap between universities and businesses. Doctoral candidates work on current research questions and apply scientific methods directly to business contexts.
For companies, a cooperative doctoral program offers the opportunity to develop new topics together with the university and to advance research in a targeted manner. The OWL University of Applied Sciences actively supports such collaborations and brings doctoral students, supervisors, and companies together in its Graduate Center.
