Where Food Meets IT

The smartFoodTechnologyOWL partnership at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences harnesses the potential of digitalization and Industry 4.0 technologies to connect previously isolated individual systems within the food industry into integrated value and production chains.

Together with partners from industry, trade, commerce, and other research institutions, we are creating an alliance for innovation in the areas of food production, quality, safety, distribution, and sustainability at the Future Food Factory OWL. This is achieved by combining Industry 4.0 expertise with food technology know-how from the university and its partners. The goal is to sustainably establish a center of excellence on the topic of “Digitalization and Industry 4.0 in the food industry.” This will drive innovation in the region and beyond.

Our goals are:

  • To enable more sustainable and economically viable food production
  • To improve food safety and quality
  • To increase transparency for consumers
  • To strengthen the competitiveness of the food industry

smartFoodTechnologyOWL is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) through the “Research at Universities of Applied Sciences: FH-Impuls” program. You
