International, committed, excellent

DAAD-Award 2025

The DAAD Prize 2025 honors a young researcher whose path is as impressive as it is international.

After completing her bachelor’s degree in Norway with top grades and a master’s in Nutritional Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, she continued her academic journey in Germany during the pandemic — gaining hands-on research experience while mastering the German language.

Since 2023, she has been conducting research at TH OWL, now as a doctoral candidate in cooperation with the University of Limerick in Ireland. Her work in the Applied Biochemistry research group focuses on developing cosmetic active ingredients from agricultural by-products – linking sustainability with circular economy principles.

This year’s awardee stands for scientific excellence, global responsibility, and intercultural understanding.

Award for sustainability in teaching

#TeachingAward2024

First-class teaching is the best a university can offer they students. That is why TH OWL awards a teaching prize every year.

The TH OWL Teaching Award 2024 is a special prize for practical teaching and this year's motto is “Sustainable Development Goals @TH OWL”.

This year's award winner from the Department of Life Science Technologies has understood in a special way how to integrate global challenges in the field of life science technologies into his teaching, so that students are not only professionally but also personally prepared for the future. In his courses, the UN's sustainability goals are not just treated as abstract ideas, but as living issues that affect everyone. He always treats students as equals and gives them the feeling that their contributions are not only important, but also valuable. As a result, they leave his courses not only with knowledge, but with the self-confidence to help shape the future.

Fascination with machine learning

#ResearchPrize2024

Research is the hope of finding solutions for the future. This is why the TH OWL awards a research prize every year.

In his seven years at the TH OWL in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, this year's award winner has conducted intensive research and published in the field of machine learning. In particular, he has focused on developing new types of machine learning models that integrate prior knowledge, especially about ordinary and partial differential equations.

He uses his research results for a very targeted publication strategy. Through publications at highly recognized international conferences and in particularly renowned journals, he makes a decisive contribution to visibility and recognition in the scientific community. He also contributes intensively to teaching by involving students in research projects and offering relevant courses.

Commitment is worthwhile

#UniversityAdvancementsAnnualAward2024

Commitment is the driving force behind our cooperation at the university.

As the sponsoring society of the TH OWL, the University Advancement has made it its mission to honor committed students at the university with an award for their important work.

This year, one student particularly impressed the jury. She is studying for a Master's degree in Applied Entrepreneurship. During her studies, she was a member of the student representatives of Media Production and Applied Entrepreneurship, the student parliament and as a student representative in the Senate. She achieved a lot in the individual committees and was always careful to represent the students' point of view, but also not to lose sight of the interests of the entire TH OWL.

Active engagement and support for students

#StudentCommunityAward2024

Every year, the students of the TH OWL also award a prize to a member of staff at the university who is particularly committed to the students.

This year's award winner works in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics at the Innovation Campus in Lemgo. As assistant to the dean's office, timetables and exam schedules are only part of her daily work. She always has an open ear for the students and is always a reliable point of contact. With her unwavering patience and big heart, she tries to turn students' concerns into reality.

Social commitment alongside your studies

#DAAD-Award2024

The DAAD-award is presented annually to international students who distinguish themselves through special commitment alongside their studies.

This year's award winner is studying for a Master's degree in Integrated Design at the Creative Campus in Detmold and actively contributes to university life. This is particularly evident in his commitment to robotics and digitalization and in the establishment of the university project Robbau, in which he played a key role. His ability to combine technical projects with social and collaborative approaches is particularly impressive. The award winner has also made a name for himself as a supporter and mentor for his fellow students. With a great deal of patience and empathy, he stands by new international students and supports them as a buddy wherever necessary. For academic questions, administrative challenges, but also for personal concerns.
