Large-scale Interdisciplinary Alliance on Nature-based Solutions and Health: Indicators, Inequality and Innovation
Nature-based Solutions (NBS) are a key component of European climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. However, they can have both positive and unintended effects on human, animal, and environmental health. The COST Action LILY therefore focuses on the health effects of NBS and addresses central challenges: the lack of a comprehensive framework to represent health impacts and underlying pathways, gaps in NBS-health indicators, and issues of vulnerability and inequality.
Within this transdisciplinary alliance, scientists, practitioners, stakeholders, and civil society representatives are participatively involved to:
- Develop a conceptual framework for mapping the health effects of NBS,
- Develop best-practice guidelines for spatio-temporal indicators considering vulnerability and inequality,
- Provide recommendations for innovative data streams and monitoring methods for indicator-based evaluation, and
- Build a network and data platform for efficient information exchange.
In addition, early-career researchers are specifically supported through summer schools, workshops, and the organisation of the first NBS-Health conference. The insights gained are integrated into policy briefs and practice-relevant publications and are intended to make a significant contribution to the further development of evidence-based NBS strategies.
