ICLMobil

Project:
The Innovation Campus Lemgo e. V. (ICL e. V.) represents education, research, and business in the historic Hanseatic city of Lemgo and the East Westphalia-Lippe region. Due to its importance as an innovation hub and its many national and international guests and visitors, the campus faces the challenges of rural mobility.

A recent mobility survey revealed that private motorized transport dominates on campus. This results in congested roads, higher traffic emissions, and a negative impact on the site’s culture of innovation. To address these challenges, the ICLMobil project was launched.

ICLMobil comprises a wide range of measures aimed at shifting private motorized transport towards alternative modes of mobility such as public transport, bicycles, and scooters, while reducing emissions. A central component of the project is the development of an open digital mobility platform — the ICLMobil App. In addition to improving public transport structures and sharing options for e-scooters and e-bikes, the project also focuses on developing innovative exchange platforms for private carpooling solutions.

The app is designed to provide transparent access to all mobility services in Lemgo and to promote the exchange of ideas for sustainable mobility concepts.

The ICLMobil App is being developed as an open-source and open-data solution and is intended for use not only at the Innovation Campus Lemgo but also at other TH OWL locations. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) with a grant of €331,000 and runs from April 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. It is carried out by an interdisciplinary team of researchers, IT developers, and mobility experts. Project partners include the Institute for Design Strategies (IDS) at TH OWL, the Future City Solutions team, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Automation (IOSB-INA) in Lemgo, Innovation Campus Lemgo e. V., as well as iplus1 GmbH and RRive GmbH.

The IDS and Fraunhofer Institute bring extensive experience in applied research and development in the fields of mobility and intelligent technical systems. Both have previously worked on projects such as the development of autonomous vehicles and digital infrastructures for delivery services.

iplus1 GmbH and RRive GmbH contribute their expertise in software and mobility app development. iplus1 has prior experience in developing open-source software and integrating open data into digital solutions. RRive has developed an innovative ride-sharing app that uses artificial intelligence and navigation technology to connect drivers and passengers.

Innovation Campus Lemgo e. V. supports the coordination of campus stakeholders and the various activities taking place around the Lemgo campus. Within the project, its task is to take over the long-term operation of the ICLMobil solution.
