Institute for Life Science Technologies (ILT.NRW)

The Institute for Life Science Technologies (ILT.NRW) is an interdisciplinary research institution that addresses key topics in the life sciences and food technology and cooperates closely with partners from science, industry, and society. Its focus is on digitalization (Industry 4.0, machine learning), sustainability, and the development of innovative processes and products. With the establishment of the smartFoodTechnologyOWL partnership in 2017 and the opening of the Future Food Factory OWL in 2023, the institute promotes exchange between engineering, computer science, natural sciences, and other disciplines with a focus on food production. The aim is to develop sustainable and forward-looking technologies for the processing of biological resources and their value chains. In this way, ILT.NRW makes a significant contribution to the further development of life sciences in research, industry, and society. With over 40 employees and seven professorships, the institute works on national and international research projects as well as numerous industrial projects related to food quality and processing. In 2014, the institute was included in the Research Map for Profile-Building Research of the German Rectors' Conference.
