Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programs (BIP)

Join students from Poland, Portugal, and Italy for theErasmus BIP “The Importance of Breast Milk—Nutrition, Protection, and Risks from Mycotoxins,” taking place May 18–22, 2026, in Poland! 

The goal of the course is to provide participants with specialized knowledge and awareness of the valuable components of human milk while also highlighting the potential risks of early feeding. A special focus is placed on exposure to mycotoxins—toxic metabolites produced by certain types of mold.

During the in-person session, you will learn about various research methods that demonstrate the extraordinary properties of breast milk. You will participate in:

• microbiological analyses,

• analyses of the composition of breast milk with regard to macronutrients,

• tests for the presence of mycotoxins in breast milk,

• a field trip to the regional breast milk bank in Torun.

In addition to the scientific activities, the program also offers opportunities for social interaction, getting to know one another, and building an international network. This workshop is an Erasmus Blended Intensive Program (BIP). The great thing about it is that you’ll receive a stipend to cover travel and accommodation costs.

• Online component: Introductory session before the in-person week and follow-up session afterward (3 hours online each)

This Erasmus BIP program is aimed at students in the Faculty of Life Science Technologies enrolled in the following degree programs: Biotechnology, Industrial Pharmacy, Food Technology, Medical and Health Technology, as well as Life Science Technologies and Smart Health Sciences. You will earn 3 ECTS credits for participating. 

• You can have your participation recorded in your Diploma Supplement. Credit toward your degree program is currently not possible.

The Erasmus mobility grant amounts to 395€ for 5 workshop days (79€ per day). In addition, you can apply for a Social Top-Up of 100€ if you meet any of the criteria for students with fewer opportunities. You will also receive a travel allowance of €417 if you travel by train, bus, or carpool (or €309 if you travel by car or plane) and can apply for funding for additional travel days.

You can submit an application online via our mobility platform SoleMOVE between January 13 and February 14, 2026. 

There are a maximum of 10 spots available. Please submit a certificate of enrollment and a current transcript along with your application. Participants will be selected based on their coursework to date and must be enrolled at TH OWL in June 2026.

Join students from Belgium, Portugal, and Poland for theErasmus BIP “The Urbanized Countryside – Facing the Affordable Housing Crisis” from November 9–13, 2026, in Belgium! 

Ever since the 1950s, the European countryside has been undergoing urbanization. Over the past two decades, however, this process has stalled: villages are losing essential services, the population is aging, the housing stock fails to meet energy standards, public transportation is being scaled back, and so on—all of which are pushing a growing number of villagers into poverty. The aim of this program is to:

1. explore innovative housing models that are both affordable, compensate for the lack of services, and reflect the local village identity
2. develop economic models that help villages regain a level of self-sufficiency

Who can submit an application?

This Erasmus BIP program is open to students at the Detmold School of Design enrolled in the BA in Architecture degree program (starting in the 4th semester), the MA in Architecture, and the MA in Integrated Design.

This workshop is an Erasmus Blended Intensive Program (BIP). The great thing about it is that you’ll receive a grant to cover travel and accommodation costs. Participation in both the online and phase of attendance is mandatory!

• Online portion: October 16, 23, and 30, 2026
• In-person phase in Hasselt, Belgium: November 9–13, 2026

Here’s how the Erasmus grant is structured

• The Erasmus mobility grant amounts to €395 for 5 workshop days (€79 per day).
• In addition, you can apply for a €100 Social Top-Up if you meet one of the criteria for students with fewer opportunities. Please note the attached affidavit for top-ups and submit it via the SoleMOVE platform.
• You will also receive a travel allowance of €211 if traveling by car or €285 if traveling by train, bus, or carpool, and can apply for funding for 1 additional travel day (1/2 day for the outbound trip and 1/2 day for the return trip). à Please refer to the attached affidavit for travel days and submit it via the SoleMOVE platform

  • Select “(TH) OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts” from the drop-down menu.
  • Log in using your TH OWL credentials.
  • After registering on the SoleMOVE platform, select “Application” from the menu on the left, then “Create new application.”
  • Select “Study” and “short student exchange,” and under “Application period: Erasmus BIP,” select “The Urbanized Countryside” Belgium.
  • Once you’ve saved your changes, you can enter your personal information and upload the attachments. Under “Exchange study information,” select “Hasselt University.” The EU code in your home country is: 0731 Architecture. Remember to click “SAVE” each time!
  • Along with your online application, you must upload the following documents
    • Certificate of enrollment showing that you are currently enrolled at TH OWL. You can download this via the KIS portal.
    • Current transcript of grades showing your grade point average
    • Optional: Affidavit for Erasmus+ Social Top-ups, if applicable (template attached)
    • Optional: Sworn statement for travel expense subsidies and funding for additional travel days (template attached)
    • Once all required fields have been filled out, you can submit the application.

How do I submit an application?
You can submit an application online between May 12 and May 31, 2026. 

Selection
Process There are a maximum of 10 spots available. Please submit a certificate of enrollment and a current transcript along with your application. Participants will be selected based on their coursework to date and must still be enrolled at TH OWL in November 2026. Priority will be given to students who have not yet participated in an Erasmus BIP or a semester abroad.

If the formal requirements are met, the in-person phase of a short-term mobility program for participation in a blended intensive program is eligible for funding. Payment is made in two installments (80% before the mobility period / 20% after the mobility period and upon submission of the final documents).

Funding for the in-person phase of a short-term mobility (minimum duration: 5 days; maximum duration: 30 days) amounts to:

• 5–14 days × €79.00 per day
• 15–30 days × €56.00 per day

Funding for Travel Days

In addition, travel days may optionally be funded, depending on the choice of transportation (sustainable/non-sustainable) and the distance (according to the EU Distance Calculator; the starting point is always Lemgo/Detmold/Höxter): 

• up to 2 travel days when using non-environmentally friendly modes of transportation
• up to 6 travel days when using environmentally friendly modes of transportation for both the outbound and return trips.

It is the responsibility of participating students to retain the relevant documentation (e.g., train tickets) and to provide it to the International Office at TH OWL upon request (e.g., as part of financial audits).

Travel Expense Subsidy

Starting with the 2024 project (mobility programs beginning in the winter semester 2025/26), students will receive a travel allowance 

• 10–99 km: non-sustainable travel: €28 / sustainable travel: €56
• 100–499 km: non-sustainable travel: €211 / sustainable travel: €285
• 500–1,999 km: non-sustainable travel: €309 / sustainable travel: €417

Students who fall into one of the following groups may also apply for additionalfunding in the amount of:

• 5–14 days of mobility: a one-time payment of 100€
• 15–30 days of mobility: a one-time grant of 150€

This includes:

• students with a disability or chronic illness
• mobile learners traveling with a child or children
• mobile students who are first-generation college students, i.e., whose parents or primary caregivers do not hold a college degree
• mobile learners who are employed and earn between €450 and €850 net per month.
