Piston Machines

In a large number of technical plants piston machines belong to the most important components and are used as compressors for the supply of compressed air, as superpressure compressors in the processing technology and as pumps and engines in hydraulic systems. By far the highest number of piston machines can be found in vehicle engines. Today very large two-stroke ship diesel engines with a 52 % efficiency are ranking at the top of the list of thermal heat engines.
But the progress achieved in the development of engines shows that there still is potential for improvement e.g. in the field of exhaust emissions and part-load consumptions so that it is rewarding to deal with this particular issue in more detail. The piston machine courses provide the required basic knowledge and consolidate the know how by means of practically relevant experiments carried out in practical laboratory courses where the latest measuring technology can be used. Most of the problems handled there are relevant for the entire mechanical engineering branch.
Further information about this laboratory is only given in German.
