258-Meter Community: TH OWL Sets World Record for the Longest Breakfast Table

The record has now been officially confirmed: The TH OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts has received the certificate for the world’s longest breakfast table in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region! On April 29, the university set the world record amid sunshine, straw buns, Pickert, and high spirits, together with around 450 members of the university community.

Measuring exactly 258 meters, the breakfast table was officially recognized as a world record by the Record Institute for Germany (RID). A total of 115 tables were arranged in a U-shape around the campus lawn at the Innovation Campus Lemgo, bringing together university members from all TH OWL campuses and learning locations under the open sky.

Under the motto “Together at One Table,” the university administration had invited everyone to this special campus breakfast. The occasion was the successful implementation of the structural reform of the academic departments. Instead of dry formalities and a large stage program, there were delicious East Westphalian-Lippe specialties, a light spring breeze, and many conversations among colleagues, students, and staff.

Many participants were enthusiastic about the open atmosphere on the campus lawn. “We should have events like this more often,” was a comment heard repeatedly throughout the morning.

The extra-long breakfast table featured regional classics such as open-faced rolls with toppings, Lippisch Pickert with sugar beet syrup, and naturally cloudy apple juice made from windfall apples from the Lippe region. International students in particular took the opportunity to try some of the regional specialties for the first time.

And because sustainability at TH OWL is more than just a buzzword, the guests simply brought their own plates, cutlery, and cups—fully in line with the record attempt and without any disposable tableware. In a relaxed atmosphere, everyone enjoyed breakfast together, laughed, and kept a close eye on the measurement results throughout.

Beyond the official record, the shared experience was the main focus. The long breakfast table brought people from very different areas of the university into conversation with one another and highlighted what sets TH OWL apart: openness, solidarity, and a vibrant university culture.

Thus, it is not only a record but also a special morning that will be remembered: a breakfast that showed just how long solidarity can be.
