A distinguished jury of experts from industry and politics selected the winner of the award, which was recently presented by Federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing. The Institute Industrial IT (inIT) at TH OWL University of Applied Sciences, through its “Intelligent Systems” research group led by Professor Dr. Ulrich Büker, is playing a key role in the project and is responsible for central responsibilities in the development of the automated driving function.
“We are delighted to receive this award, which is a great honor for everyone involved. The award gives us additional momentum for our ambitious project,” emphasized project initiator Professor Dr. Thomas Tröster, holder of the Chair of Lightweight Construction in Automotive Engineering at the University of Paderborn and a member of the NeMo.bil consortium, as well as Jonathan Behm, Managing Director of Neue Mobilität Paderborn e. V., at the German government’s Digital Summit in Frankfurt (Main).
Innovative Mobility Concept for Rural Regions
The NeMo.bil project focuses on a swarm-like mobility concept as an alternative and supplement to traditional public transportation. The participants are developing a completely novel mobility system for rural regions. Through a disruptive approach, this system achieves energy and resource efficiency that was previously unattainable. NeMo.bil offers an on-demand service that is every bit as comfortable as a private car, making it a genuine alternative in rural regions.
Central Role of TH OWL
Professor Büker, deputy director of inIT, leads the work package for the development of the automated driving function. Here, in close collaboration with other project partners, safety requirements are defined, sensor technology is integrated into the vehicles, and the software for autonomous driving is developed.
The NeMo.bil project consortium consists of the following partners: Aspens GmbH, AVANCO Composites GmbH, BULIGHT GmbH, CADFEM Germany GmbH, CP Tech GmbH, German Aerospace Center (DLR), dSPACE GmbH, FIWARE Foundation e.V., HOLON GmbH, INYO Mobility GmbH, LIA GmbH, Neue Mobilität Paderborn e.V., PHOENIX CONTACT E-Mobility GmbH, Poppe + Potthoff GmbH, Reisewitz GmbH & Co. KG, Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, (TH) OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts, University of Paderborn, Berlin Science Center, and the Technical University of Dortmund.
The Future of Mobility Between Urban and Rural Areas
Neue Mobilität Paderborn e.V. has set itself the goal of taking a holistic view of mobility concepts, vehicle systems, energy generation, and digitalization. More than 70 network partners have come together in the association to rethink mobility between urban and rural areas. The association sees itself as an initiator of projects that contribute to this common goal.
