James O'Reilly, Head of the International Office, welcomed the guests to the ceremony. The awards were presented to students who had received scholarships for international mobility in recognition of their commitment as ambassadors for the university worldwide.
In the winter semester of 2025/2026, around 80 TH-OWL students will complete a semester abroad or an internship. This is made possible by various support programs: The PROMOS program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports stays outside the EU. Seven students were awarded scholarships this year as part of this program.
The Erasmus+ program is available for study and internship stays within Europe—61 students are currently benefiting from this funding.
If no other programs are available, the GO OVERSEAS scholarship from the Hochschulgesellschaft OWL e. V. (University Society of East Westphalia-Lippe) steps in to support six students this year. Other programs sponsored by the University Society, such as Go Europe and Women Worldwide, enabled 23 additional students to study abroad.
A special get-together brought together the current “outgoings,” i.e., those who have already gained international experience, with the students who are going abroad in the coming semester. Discussions and the exchange of tips and experiences resulted in lively networking among the participants.
The highlight of the International Summer Celebration was the big party behind the InnovationSPIN: International students presented their countries of origin and treated guests to typical delicacies from their homelands at the Food Contest.
Music from around the world, a barbecue, a fashion show, karaoke, mehndi tattoos, a photo booth, and a raffle with small prizes ensured a great atmosphere. Students and staff got to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere, discovered new cultures, and celebrated together. It was a day full of impressions that showed once again that internationality is not just a goal at TH OWL, it is lived every day.
If you fancy an adventure abroad yourself, TH-OWL students can apply for a semester abroad at a partner university during the summer semester of 2026 between July 1 and September 1, 2025.
