The conference chairs, Professor Dr. Ulrich Jumar (ifak) and Professor Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite (inIT and Fraunhofer IOSB-INA), guided the participants through the program. Professor Jasperneite opened the event, welcomed the participants, and highlighted the colloquium’s unique atmosphere as a “family reunion of experts”: “We are delighted to welcome so many experts here today to our Innovation Campus Lemgo for KommA 2024. We value open dialogue to share knowledge, generate new ideas, and critically discuss the technologies of the future together. And this is especially important in these economically challenging times.”
Omlox Standard for Real-Time Location Systems
A highlight of this year’s KommA was the keynote address by Eberhard Wahl, Managing Director of TRUMPF Tracking Technologies, on the topic “Interoperable Real-Time Locating Systems for Everyone: An Introduction to the Omlox Standard.” He emphasized the importance of the open and vendor-neutral Omlox standard, which will significantly advance real-time localization in industry and facilitate the production of networked, location-based solutions.
The colloquium featured 21 technical presentations divided into four thematic sessions: New Technologies, Asset Administration Shell and Digital Twin, Performance Evaluations, and Security and System Integration. Topics ranged from the integration of 5G into industrial applications to technologies for the digital twin and safety-critical communication systems.
The poster session fostered intensive exchange and specialization in technical discussions, reaffirming KommA as a valuable platform for practical insights and well-founded research results.
Conclusion and Handover
At the conclusion of this year’s KommA, Professor Ulrich Jumar retired and officially handed the baton to his successor, Professor Dr. Lisa Underberg, who recently took over as head of ifak. “It has been a pleasure and an honor to help shape KommA over so many years. With Professor Lisa Underberg, an experienced successor is taking over the conference leadership alongside Professor Jürgen Jasperneite and will enrich KommA with new ideas,”
