Effective university communications require well-trained young professionals: The Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences was awarded the “Volo Prize of the Federal Association of University Communications” this year. The award recognizes universities that offer their interns particularly good conditions for entering the field of professional university communications.
With this prestigious award, the Federal Association recognizes the quality of the trainee program in the Communications and Marketing Department at TH OWL. This recognition is based on established standards and training objectives. These include, among other things, a structured and diverse training program, opportunities for continuing education, and insights into various areas of communications work—ranging from traditional press releases and the creation of (moving) images to social media posts for different channels and target audiences.
The internship program offers young people, after completing their studies, the opportunity to learn about the many facets of modern university communication at TH OWL and to help shape it in a hands-on way. These include, for example, press and public relations, online and social media communication, university marketing, as well as communication related to events, academic programs, research, and knowledge transfer.
The Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences has been continuously training interns for more than ten years—currently, there are even two. And that’s not all: Marketing communication specialists are also successfully trained in the Communications and Marketing Department.
The Federal Association for University Communications established the Volo Award to strengthen quality standards in training and to encourage universities to regularly review and further develop their training programs. At the same time, the award highlights the importance of sound support for young talent in university communications.
For TH OWL, the Volo Prize is thus both a recognition and an incentive: young communication talents should continue to be prepared for their profession and the next steps in their careers in a practical, versatile, and highly professional manner. Particularly encouraging: Most of these young professionals find positions at the university after completing their internships.
