gamescom 2026: TH OWL is there. And so is Mona Neubaur, NRW's Minister of Economic Affairs.

Gaming, research, and creative media development: Mona Neubaur tests the HoloGame display case at the (TH) OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts booth.

As exhibitors, KreativInstitut.OWL and the Faculty of Computer Science and Automation at TH OWL will demonstrate in the Campus Area in Hall 10 how research, innovative technologies, and creative media development come together. They were joined by a special guest: Mona Neubaur, Minister of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection, and Energy for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Neubaur stopped by the booth to get a firsthand look at the current projects.

Among other things, Neubaur tested the HoloGame showcase “Hogapy” and the VR game “AgriWash.” “Millions have long been playing—in everyday life, on the go, with friends. Games are culture, business, and innovation all in one. And North Rhine-Westphalia is right in the thick of it: Global corporations have made their home here, alongside a vibrant indie and startup scene. Here in Cologne, gamers, developers, startups, and international companies come together. Whether it’s a large studio or a small indie team: Here, the ideas of tomorrow are born, talent is nurtured, and new technologies are tested. gamescom is the world’s largest gaming event—and the best showcase for what our campus has to offer,” said Mona Neubaur

Visitors will also get a first glimpse of the new Gamecraft degree program, a collaborative degree program offered by the Faculties of Media and Culture, Computer Science and Automation, as well as the Institute for Science in Dialog (starting in October 2027).

Professor Dr. Guido Falkemeier emphasizes: “Games have long been more than just entertainment. They combine technology, creativity, design, and social issues. It is precisely at this intersection that we conduct research and teach at TH OWL.” Professor Dr. Rainer Rasche adds: “With the help of game technologies, modern autonomous mobility can be tested and utilized. The technology and the virtual spaces are identical and perfect for training sensor systems.”

gamescom in Cologne has now become the world’s largest trade show for computer and video games, attracting over 350,000 visitors from around the globe.

Anyone who wants to not only play games but also understand and help shape them should stop by Booth F-017 in Hall 10.1 or visit the two faculties at the Kreativ Campus Detmold and the Innovation Campus Lemgo.
