Great chance of financial support during your studies: social scholarships from the Studienfonds OWL foundation

From February 1 to 28, students and prospective students at the universities of Bielefeld and Paderborn, the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, the Technical University of East Westphalia-Lippe and the Detmold University of Music can apply for a social scholarship from the Studienfonds OWSL foundation. This program supports financially needy students for a year with 150 euros per month and comprehensive non-material support.

The aim of the program is to support students who find themselves in a particular financial or personal situation that endangers their ability to pursue or continue their studies. The scholarships will be awarded for one year starting on April 1, 2025. To be eligible, beneficiaries must already be studying at one of the five universities mentioned or must begin their studies there in the summer semester of 2025. The funding amounts to €1,800 per year and is paid out in monthly installments of €150.

Good documentation – half the battle on the way to a scholarship

Project coordinator Fabian Klipsch encourages candidates to apply: “The utmost confidentiality is, of course, guaranteed – but it is important that applicants provide evidence to support their statements, particularly regarding their financial and possibly also personal difficulties,” he explains, adding: ”Of course, the letter of motivation should also be informative and present the current living and study financing situation in such a way that the selection committee can get a comprehensive picture.” The foundation provides extensive information on this topic on its website, in both German and English. An English-language application form will also be activated from February 1.

Non-material support is an important building block

When awarding social scholarships, not only the financial aspect is relevant. In addition to financial support, scholarship holders also benefit from an extensive ideational support program. This is implemented in cooperation with the scholarship sponsors and includes workshops, lectures and other varied events. This creates an important network during your studies that can later facilitate your career entry in the OWL region.

Further sponsors sought.

The social scholarships of the Studienfonds OWL foundation are financed exclusively by donations from companies, foundations, associations and private donors in the region. Anyone who would like to contribute to the financing of the social scholarships can contact the foundation directly. Both full and partial financing is possible; 100% of the donations are distributed as scholarship funds without any deduction of administrative costs and can be claimed back against tax.
