A warm welcome in the old monastery church

The new master’s students in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at TH OWL recently attended a special event: a festive reception held at St. Johann Church, a former monastery church in downtown Lemgo, welcomed students in the master’s programs in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, and Mechatronic Systems.

Professor Dr. Henning Trsek led the program. The new students were delighted by the warm welcome they received from Maren Krüger, pastor of St. Johann and hostess; Mayor Markus Baier; TH OWL Vice President Professor Dr. Uta Pottgiesser; Dean Professor Dr. Thomas Schulte; and Community Manager Anuj Dalvi, who supports the international students as their doctoral/academic supervisor.

Some international students are still waiting for their visas and were therefore unable to attend, but they are looking forward to becoming part of the university community soon.

A highlight of the evening was the city tour, which gave the new students a closer look at their new and historic surroundings. Special thanks went to Professor Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite and his team for the successful organization. Later, the students had the opportunity to get to know their new classmates and strike up conversations with the professors.

The international students, in particular, took the opportunity to speak directly with the mayor about the challenges they face in finding housing in Lemgo. Given the limited housing supply, many are forced to rent apartments in places like Bielefeld. Public transportation connections were also a topic of discussion.
