The format was organized by the Institute for Industrial Information Technology (inIT) at TH OWL in collaboration with the Lippe Regional Association and the Old Hanseatic City of Lemgo as part of the AI Academy OWL. Speaker and AI expert Professor Dr. Markus Lange-Hegermann, member of the inIT Executive Board, led the morning session and shared key perspectives on the use of AI in an administrative context, which he explained in a practical manner.
Around 100 interested participants gained a thorough insight into the fundamentals, applications, and challenges of AI. Professor Lange-Hegermann began by introducing key concepts of machine learning. This was followed by a discussion of possible applications for large language models such as ChatGPT in everyday administrative tasks, for example to provide support with standard queries, in document management, or in text generation.
An interactive section with practical exercises on prompting invited participants to gain their own experience with AI systems. The workshop highlighted not only the opportunities but also the limitations of current technologies, particularly with regard to data protection, fairness, and explainability.
Exchange in a historic setting
The open atmosphere at the Weser Renaissance Museum in Brake Castle provided space for lively discussions and a lively interdisciplinary exchange—both with the speaker and among the participants. During the subsequent lunch, the ideas from the morning were explored in greater depth and new contacts were made.
In particular, employees from the university and the Old Hanseatic City of Lemgo networked with each other and with interested members of the public. The event thus contributed to regional exchange and knowledge transfer and underlined the importance of open dialogue for the joint shaping of digital developments.
“The huge response shows how much interest there is in practical formats on the topic of artificial intelligence, including in an administrative context,” summarized Professor Lange-Hegermann. “Events like this promote understanding of new technologies and strengthen regional networking.”
Background: The AI Academy OWL is a joint initiative of science, industry, and administration in East Westphalia-Lippe. Its goal is to pool expertise in the field of artificial intelligence in the region, impart it in a practical manner, and make it accessible to a broad target group—for example, through continuing education programs, information formats, and interactive events.
