During a tour of laboratories, research facilities, and practical Learning Sites, Stahl gained comprehensive insight into the university's diverse activities—from SmartFactoryOWL and innovative teaching concepts to the "Mobile Smart Farm." Her conclusion: TH OWL is a role model for practice-oriented research and knowledge transfer in action.
"I really enjoyed the visit," Charlotte Stahl emphasized afterwards. "I was impressed by the intensive intertwining of teaching, research, and practice. The way TH OWL manages to give students the opportunity to try things out for themselves, build prototypes, and apply and develop their practical skills is truly exemplary."
She showed particular interest in SmartFactoryOWL, a joint research and demonstration center run by TH OWL and Fraunhofer IOSB-INA. "The collaboration with companies via SmartFactory is an excellent way not only to support local businesses in their further development, but also to provide students with access to the job market," said Stahl.
The training and study concept, which brings trainees and students together in joint projects, also received great recognition: "They certainly learn a lot with and from each other."
She highlighted the Mobile Smart Farm, a research project at TH OWL that deals with digitalization and efficiency gains in agriculture, as particularly relevant to practice. "Digitalization and efficiency gains in the use of scarce resources are key issues that we must address politically in Germany, but also worldwide. With its research in this area, TH OWL enriches every technical discussion."
