IT Apprenticeships
IT enthusiasts can look forward to training as an IT specialist in the fields of system integration or application development (m/f/d). In the field of system integration, IT specialists install and configure hardware and software, set up information and communication systems, and maintain mainframe and multi-user systems at the Höxter campus.
IT specialists in the application development track develop customer-specific software solutions, expand existing programs, and implement new systems.
For those with a passion for technology who wish to combine business acumen with IT expertise, the apprenticeship as an IT Management Specialist (f/m/d) is an ideal choice. This apprenticeship at the Lemgo campus covers the planning and coordination of IT projects as well as the procurement and administration of IT services. In addition, trainees ensure the smooth operation of the IT infrastructure and work closely with the specialist departments to optimize processes.
Technical and scientific training programs
Those passionate about the natural sciences will find the right challenge in the training programto become a Building Materials Tester (f/m/d) at the Detmold campus. Building materials testers take samples and analyze them to verify the load-bearing capacity of soils and building materials. Technical understanding, manual dexterity, and good grades in math, physics, or engineering are important prerequisites, as is a certain level of physical stamina. A Class B+BE driver’s license is desirable. The training program is scheduled to last three years.
For STEM talents, TH OWL also offers training as a physics or chemistry laboratory technician (f/m/d). Physics laboratory technicians work in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics at the Lemgo campus on experiments and measurement series to investigate material properties.
Chemistry lab technicians, on the other hand, analyze and synthesize chemical substances and mixtures. Both training programs require good to very good grades in mathematics, physics, and chemistry and last three and a half years.
Combination of apprenticeship and degree program
Those interested in technology and science may be interested in the dual study program in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, which is offered at TH OWL in combination with an apprenticeship as a physics laboratory technician (f/m/d). Students receive a solid engineering education while simultaneously gaining practical experience in conducting and evaluating experiments in the laboratory at the Lemgo campus. The start date can be chosen between August 1, 2025, and September 1, 2025.
Dual Study Program in Public Administration
In 2025, TH OWL will once again offer the dual study program for a Bachelor’s degree in the State Administrative Service – General Administration. Dual students take on challenging administrative tasks in the areas of human resources and finance and work with legal texts. They also assist in advising professors, staff, and students. Requirements include a higher education entrance qualification or general university entrance qualification with good grades, as well as an interest in legal and business processes. Teamwork, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are also important. The three-year degree program combines semesters at the University of Police and Public Administration in Bielefeld with practical phases at TH OWL. Upon successful completion, there is the opportunity to be hired as a probationary civil servant, with the prospect of permanent civil service status. This dual study program begins on September 1, 2025.
