Professor Dr. Volker Lohweg opened the colloquium: “I am delighted to welcome you all here at the Innovation Campus Lemgo for BVAu 2024. Today’s colloquium is designed to shed light on the latest developments in computer vision. In particular, we are looking forward to presentations that combine classical 2D and 3D image processing with deep learning to tackle complex industrial challenges. We have put together a diverse program and are eager to hear interesting presentations and engage in lively discussions.” Professor Lohweg co-hosted the day’s events alongside Christoph-Alexander Holst.
This year’s keynote was delivered by Professor Dr. habil. Christian Wöhler from the Technical University of Dortmund. In his presentation “High-Resolution Image-Based 3D Surface Analysis,” Wöhler provided exciting insights into the latest image processing techniques as they relate to lunar and Martian landings. He explained in detail how these technologies not only improve the accuracy and efficiency of industrial measurement and inspection processes but also open up new possibilities for Automation Technology. His remarks impressively demonstrated how 3D reconstruction methods can contribute to solving complex tasks and what role they will play in the future of industrial image processing.
Technical presentations provide practical insights
A total of ten presentations across three thematically structured sessions explored key topics in image processing. The first session focused on AI-based anomaly detection and demonstrated the use of artificial intelligence to identify unexpected patterns in industrial processes. The second session highlighted innovative automation techniques that enhance the efficiency and precision of automation processes through computer vision. The third session was dedicated to advanced methods of 3D reconstruction, which open up new possibilities for quality control and production monitoring.
During a tour of SmartFactoryOWL, participants had the opportunity to get to know the innovative research environment on the campus better and view several demonstrators.
This was followed by a joint evening program with the partner colloquium Communication in Automation (KommA). First, the group visited the All Electric Society Park at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg. Here, guests were able to experience interactively how sustainable energy solutions are implemented in practice. The day concluded with a joint conference dinner at the historic Kesselhaus Lemgo.
