The event, held as part of the MaPro project, was led by Dr. Tobias Kemper, a department head at the State Office for Nature, Environment, and Climate of North Rhine-Westphalia (LANUK). The focus was on the practical application of the NRW Climate Atlas.
Participants gained insights into climate data, maps, and analysis tools and learned how these can be used to address various issues. It became clear just how much potential freely available climate information offers for assessing local climate impacts and developing appropriate adaptation measures.
The training also provided an opportunity to discuss specific use cases and exchange experiences. This allowed participants to gain firsthand experience with the Climate Atlas’s features and establish connections to municipal planning, research, teaching, and degree programs.
The event was part of the project “MaPro – Master Plan for Sustainable and Transferable Municipal Flash Flood Prevention as a Transdisciplinary Process.” It strengthened the transfer of knowledge between the university, municipalities, and other stakeholders.
Formats like these help make scientific findings and digital tools applicable to real-world practice and support a collaborative approach to addressing the consequences of climate change.
