Studied plastics engineering—and won an innovation award

Riccarda Grigo Awarded Young Innovator Prize for Her Master's Thesis

Success for a graduate of the (TH) OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts: Riccarda Grigo was awarded the Young Innovators Award at the annual conference of the “Kunststoffe in OWL” association. The award recognized her master’s thesis, in which she addressed a practical topic in plastics engineering.

The thesis focused on the question of to what extent 3D-printed test specimens made from plastic pellets are suitable for determining mechanical material properties independently of the actual manufacturing process. In doing so, Grigo investigated an approach that could open up new possibilities for characterizing plastics.

The master’s thesis was supervised by Professor Dr. André Springer from the Faculty of Production and Engineering. It was completed in collaboration with POS TUNING GmbH.

Riccarda Grigo’s academic path also highlights the diverse study opportunities at TH OWL: She first studied “Innovative Production Systems” at the Innovation Campus Lemgo, with a specialization in plastics engineering. She then successfully completed the master’s program in “Production and Management.”

More than 70 companies from the region are members of the “Kunststoffe in OWL” association. TH OWL has been an active member of this association for many years. Dr. Lutwin Spix, acting professor at the University, is also involved on the association’s board of directors.

“We are particularly pleased to be presenting this year’s award winner,” says Spix.

The Faculty of Production and Engineering extends its warmest congratulations to Riccarda Grigo on the award and wishes her every success in her future career.
